GODDAMN THE SADAKO REWORK FEELS SO GOOOOD
I am back from a long dbd break, besides being really busy I really didn't like many of the new killers, knight, skull merchant and especially that alien thing really didn't make it for me and Sadako kept being neglected. When I read she was being changed I got excited until I read the original ptb notes, part of what made Sadako so fun to me was the whole "guess where the survivor is going" to build up condemned so I didn't really like the idea of mapwide condemned and survivors just being able to have more control over her power. I didn't even bother with the PTB because I felt they had gutted her in more ways than one.
Now that I have actually played her on live I must say.

This is the most fun I have had in ages in any game. This is an upgrade to Sadako in every single way possible. besides chase power (which yeah I agree no longer being able to build up bloodlust kind of sucks but Sadako is probably the last killer you should play if you want to wreck survivors in chases)
- Map wide condemned is INSANE, if survivors don't start doing side objectives they are utterly screwed. This is what I think Sadako should have been from the beginning, it feels more thematically appropriate (though it kind of doesn't make sense that TVs turn off when you put a tape on them, you are supposed to be spreading the curse to others to save yourself, but I get why it can't be done balance wise).
- The rate at which TVs turn means you can teleport constantly which I think easily makes her one of the best teleport killers in the game, even more so than dredge because it is more consistent. It feels incredibly fast paced, I really feel like I have control over the whole map.
- At first I thought survivors not gaining condemned from tapes and instead having to hit them was kind of crappy, but after the buffs I found this new mechanic to be AMAZING. It really adds a layer of complexity to her gameplay that I find really enticing, where will the survivor go next? when is the appropriate time to telepport to catch survivors holding a tape off guard? It's the biggest upgrade to her gameplay in my opinion.
- I would have liked a better add-on pass, but still, some of the changes to her add-ons are exquisite, I am kind of sad over iri's tape nerf (people are saying new iri tape is better but I really can't agree, it makes survivors' movement too unpredictable), but some of the buffs really compensate for it
- I would have never imagined I would ever say this, but videotape copy is easily one of her best add-ons. Why? A huge part of her new gameplay style revolves around teleporting to TVs before survivors can start grabbing tapes avoid the large cooldown when survivors grab a tape in order to be able to build up condemned faster, this makes it so you can teleport constantly making grabbing tapes virtually impossible. The penalty is minimal compared to the effect of having basically insta tvs. I think BHVR should aim to make more add-ons like this one instead of the same boring useless meme add-ons absolutely no one uses.
- Distorted photo finally being made useful is great and brings back some memories from her old gameplay, pretty appropriate for the add-on I would like to add.
- Mother's comb is good but kind of overrated in my opinion, a huge part of playing Sadako since the beginning is learning to make reads on survivors to know where they will go, this add-on just makes that easier. I would say that, if anything, it's just really good training wheels for players newer to her condemned gameplay.
- I would have liked to see more add-ons like Yoichi's net, it's garbage but the concept is cool. Telephone (another horrible add-on) for instance could be reworked so that survivors get more hindered the more stacks of condemned they have.
- Remote is easily her best add-on now and I really think it could use a nerf, on some maps where TVs are really close to gens (most indoor maps and haddonfield) it is borderline overpowered. 7 SECONDS is HUGE, especially when paired with lethal pursuer (which is already one of the best perks you can currently run on Sadako). 12 meters is also way too generous. Against good Sadakos you probably won't be able to grab any tapes at all with the amount of info it gives you.
I do agree that it may be too much on the survivor side, especially for solos, there are plenty of counterplay options but most are pretty hard to get a grip on for most survivors. Some of the tactics I have found good survivors using so far are:
- Hiding in lockers just when they are about to get downed (they avoid getting the two stacks of condemned)
- Grabbing the tape as soon as TVs turns on (it is really annoying because it kind of kils early game momentum which you most desperately need)
- Using plot twist, basically the locker strategy but better since you can do it anywhere at any time
- Looping her lmao, I literally can do nothing against good loopers. She has ZERO looping potential, and no, invisibility out of manifestation is not antiloop (it makes for some good mindgames though).
Overall a great change. I really don't get all the posts saying she is worse now. They probably are playing her like dredge 2.0 and just teleporting to TVs to get closer to gens which was never the optimal (or even fun) way to play her.

That would be cool if it wasn't for the fact that majority of Sadako players right now are slugging constantly until you just get condemned and die.

She’s 100% better now. Sadly that’s mostly due to her power demolishing solo queue players similar to pinhead’s
Hopefully they can find a middle ground with her condemned and make it feel more fair while still being a mechanic that needs to be managed on the survivor end. Right now she gets so much reward for very little skill required

I agree they should do more to combat the no hooks strategy because it is pretty boring, I remember trying it before well drawing's nerf and it just feels cheap, and it seems it is stronger now. But I am not sure what they could do to discourage slugging. Perhaps make it so that the more survivors have been hooked the more stacks they gain? Like, at the beginning of the match survivors only gain 1/2 stack per teleport and then for every hook state they gain 1/4 more.

that sounds like a lot like Michael Myer's and his tombstone add-on's. lots of reward for little input. I still think it is not as bad because your input as survivor is looping well and not getting hit by not being out of position. I guess you can argue that you die too fast for too few m1 mistakes but you can look at that as high skill-floor for survivor to be successful.

When playing with a decent swf it's possible to counterplay. But she is rofl stomping solo q teams atm and it's highly unpleasant to play against, doubly so because none of my old swf mates play the game much anymore. I'm also seeing her pretty constantly atm which is getting frustrating. I'm honestly getting to the point where I want to just unalive myself on hook the second I see a tv in a solo game because I know it's an instant loss.
I haven't had a single solo q game where we've actually finished gens against her. And if there is one thing this game didn't need it's another killer who auto wins solo q games.
Ty to OP tho I didn't realise locker hopping when you are carrying a tape prevents condemned, that helps, maybe it'll give me chance to escape through the odd hatch instead of getting morid.

All her rounds are now a boring slug fest and solo q teammates refuse to interact with the tapes so just get mori'ed out at like 5-4 gens...

The problem is that even if you as that single Survivor in the game do everything correct, this does not mean that your teammates (which you have 0 control over in SoloQ) will do the same. And it really doesnt matter if you die or anyone else, an early 3v1 due to a condemned Kill means that the game is basically over.
Let alone that this playstyle of her ignores one of the core mechanics of the game - Hooks. Her Condemned-playstyle really needs to be looked at. I did only die once to Condemned since the Rework (and this was also really unlucky because I went to one TV to get rid of a tape which got snatched by a less condemned Survivor before and the next TV had Sadako appearing right in front of me..), but I have seen others die. And while doing everything correctly on my Part, I still get punished because of her unhealthy playstyle.

the game is team game. are you expecting for you to win if your team plays bad? at what point does killer win then? should the killer ever win? this complaint could be also be attributed to michael myer's tombstone add-on's because your teammates can feed him stalk and you might be on receiving end of the instant kill. at least in sadako's case, it is your own fault for getting mori'd.

The first part also applies to michael myer's tombstone add-on's. you only died once because the mechanic was non-threatening. your dying more now because it is threatening.

I mean, Myers Tombstone is BS and should have been removed from the game years ago. What is your point? Using Tombstone as your main argument is really not the best way.
(And yes, it is a teamgame. Does not mean that mechanics which punish Solos more than SWFs (where I would at least know that I have capable teammates) are any good)

both are in the game so I imagine both will be staying.

So because one, obnoxiously broken thing is in the game. Another, obnoxiously broken thing should be in the game?
K then
Yea I think they should just come out with another version of the 3 gen camping skull merchant. Its in the game already right? So no problem, we should get another.

Enjoy it while it last!

Tombstone myers isn't a good statement but ok. So I'm just unlucky that I'm the first person Mori due to my teammates letting him stalked.

The thing is the so called "condemn playstyle" is her whole point, she sucks at chase but compensates by having the condemned mechanic and it's the reason why most of us Sadako mains have enjoyed her from the beginning despite the obvious lack of any meaningful chase potential.
Imo the solution is making her counters more intuitive and not gutting her current playstyle. I wouldn't even mind if the auras of TVs were visible from 32 meters or something, just let survivors know they have options.

Like Made for This?

that is cool idea. aren't killer belonging usually shown to the survivors? like pinhead box has global aura reading and pig jigsaw boxes have aura reading. maybe sadako's TV should be highlighted to the survivor. maybe this would help survivors to play vs ability. the tv are always next to gens but perhaps that is not intuitive enough. it would give every survivor a form of visionary on every gen. not sure if that is bad thing or good thing.

She is now brainless to get wins on, since I notice most solo queue players don't grab a tape straight away and appear clueless against her. If you want cheap easy wins with no skill as Hens displayed then sure, she is probably a dream come true.
I played her a lot before the buff (never did condemned once) and I thought she was just fine since not all killers should be S tier. I won most matches with her and have no idea why BHVR thought she needed such a dramatic buff

Alright so nothing changed because she still has no chase power so she just slugs or uses hit and run.
Some tapes on certain maps could be spread out better to be accessible / not easily defendable but for the most part it's a survivor issue with not picking up tapes. Although personally I've seen it suggested a few times and would agree that condemned teleports could be dropped to 2/4 instead of 3/4 and it would feel more fair overall. The main thing is the teleports acts as a secondary timer for the game so giving survivors more time seems fair since the power is more accessible and forgiving now.

Bruh it's not my fault survivors don't know how to play against her, I have already said I think her power could be made clearer and easier to counter. But the few ones that do know what you are supposed to do against her have managed to put up a good fight, it's not 3-gen merchant you know? Survivors do have options.
I do agree it may be a bit too much and personally it's not the way I would have gone with the rework, a couple of buffs like increasing the range of condemnation to 24 meters, adding some debuffs the more stacks of condemnation and reducing the horrible cooldowns would have been more than enough. Old Sadako wasn't weak but most people were playing like Dredge, which obviously didn't work.

I would rather see that Condemned is a mechanic that is present, but very rarely actually leads to Kills. Because again, the game is focussed around hooking Survivors, they are a very important element. Not teleporting until you down someone and kill them instantly.
I see Condemned like Pigs Traps - it is a threat and should be a threat if you ignore it, but it should mainly be a Slowdown-Tool.

Yeah im loving this rework too

The condemned playstyle is absolutely miserable to go against. I didn’t think we’d get to a point where Sadako of all killers needs a nerf but I’m starting to think she does.

I’ll never understand the issue people have with slugging. You can literally do more things than when you’re on a hook and it gives you a second chance at life. There’s also multiple slug counters.
Hating slugging to me just sounds like the person is angry they weren’t able to rage quit like they can on a hook. I would always rather be slugged.
The hate for slugging is totally irrational.

I don't have enough knowledge to participate in this discussion, but if Sadako is in a good spot then I'm happy.
