Their DC penalty system doesn't differentiate between connection issues (like the server dying) and manual disconnects. It just applies the matchmaking lock the same, no matter the reason.

It's because otherwise people would bypass the DC penalty but turning off their internet. It sucks but there's not really much that can be done.
However, considering the servers have been kicking people left and right since the event started they should consider temporarily disabling the penalty.

I got a penalty cus my electric ran out lol

And this is why the DC penalty needs to have a cap. People suggest 30 minutes, and that sounds reasonable to me.
But as it is, the DC penalty is only punishing the wrong people.

I'm not saying you're wrong or it's you're fault, but it needs to differentiate between the two. How did this get past development? It's a rhetorical question fwiw. :(

It actually does differentiate between the two, but according to the devs, they have to be treated the same, otherwise players will abuse the "accidental DC," by intentionally unplugging their modem or something when they want to DC to avoid the penalty. Which I know doesn't seem fair for those who genuinely crash.

I play using family access and am often kicked out of the game when the owner of the library returns to games.
At the same time, I do not experience penalties for relegation.
It probably depends on the number of games you leave, that is, on the proportion.
If the punishment policy works from the proportions of the difference between completed and interrupted matches, then this is the correct punishment policy, the main thing is that the timer is not fixed at the upper limit and decreases over time.
And as for whose fault it is, you are thinking from the wrong side, you ruin the game for four players when you leave the match, and also spoil the statistics of the match, be guided by philosophy if you don’t know other reasons. The philosophical answer implies an option of action to ensure the common good, it is easier to punish you up to the point of completely excluding you from normal players, so as not to spoil the overall impression of the game for the majority of players.
No one will be happy that the game will lose players and close for the sake of someone who has a bad Internet connection.
Do not create such topics if you do not consider the needs of the other side.
