Developer Insight Is Amazing

BHVR did a little talk session on Discord in which they mostly just communicated their mindset and ideas behind balancing and honestly I really find stuff like this to be amazing.

Creating a health balance between a community and developers is important since it helps the flow of information between the two. Obviously the community is going to constantly providing their feedback, but it is important for BHVR to also give feedback to the community to explain not only HOW but WHY they go about things the way that they do.

More importantly, hearing that feedback can make the community feel as if its voice is being heard since talking outwards but not receiving anything back and often lead to people jumping to the conclusion that they are talking into the void regardless if such is true or not.

I think this feedback towards the community should continue, obviously not everyone is going to handle it well and with positivity is bound to come negativity BUT I think this feedback can and will lead to a more health and fluid exchange of ideas and improvements involving the game's future.

Do you know where I can find it as video, because I couldn’t watch it? Or maybe you could repeat the important and interesting parts?

Sorry for being a bit harsh, but that all doesn't matter if it not actually change things based on the feedback in a near future. SBMM for example does damage the game as long as it is in the game and it will drive Players away, some of them will never come back. Or relatively simple QoL-Features that People ask for.

Here's a great Video that talk's about a lot of these Things. It's not just about Map Design, don't let the Title fool you.

I'm glad you enjoyed this and found it useful. It's something that I will be continuing to do with the Designers for mid chapters specifically - I've shared your feedback with them. It's actually a very nerve wracking thing to put people through so it's been great to give them some positive feedback.

Hens putting it on youtube has been excellent and we're definitely looking to be able to do something like that ourselves for the next one - I do think having that direct contact is important and things like that we're looking to do more of and utilising the platforms where our players congregate the most. The Discord has been wonderful in supporting us doing these, so shout out to them for moderating it so well.

lets just say, I'm not opening my Discord DM's for a while! I got sent the most random things - and most of them nsfw!!

Having these uploaded to Youtube would be great. I watched it live on Discord (and did with the previous one as well for the Skull Merchant update patch) but not everyone can participate in those since it's at a certain time so having it available to watch later for others would be a good step forward for next time.

I love that these exist btw and getting an early sneak-peek at some of the details in the PTB and getting to hear from designers about certain things. Keep it up!

Videos like these are usually only good for pointing problems out rather than bringing up solutions to the issues.

It's easy to say that we need to remove SBMM, but what are we gonna replace it with instead? Bringing the old ranking system back is not the solution as it will just bring back the same issues people had with that matchmaking back when it was in place. If we bring a new system as a replacement, then what is this system gonna prioritize instead that will make the experience better for all parties involved? How many variables should this system focus on compared to SBMM? Questions like these needs to be answered first.

As far as map design goes, i think the main problem is that there is no general consensus shared amongst the community as a whole on what constitutes as good & fair map design in dbd overall, as you'll have divided opinions on that as different people will claim any map is either bad design or good design depending on who you ask, Nostromo Wreckage is the latest example of where you'll have some claim it's either the best map design we've had in a long time or that it's the worst one yet. So until the community comes to an agreement on what the map design's standard should strive for to be, it'll be hard to tell the devs how to fix maps in a solid way that makes them feel fair for both sides.

Glad to see you're open to broadcasting this on different avenues. I tried watching it live myself but your Discord requires me to give a phone number to Discord to even watch it, so I couldn't. I ended up watching it on Hens' stream but it would be nice to have a restream of it on Twitch or YouTube or somewhere else that is easily accessible. I don't care about asking questions, I'd just like to be able to see it.

Honestly that is great, I personally would love to have a 1 on 1 chat with any of the devs if I could even if it was for a short time. An open but non critical one.

Every now and then Paulie Ester and The King do interviews with Matthew Cote, there are some videos/podcasts you can find on YouTube about it.

Oh for real? I had no idea that this was going on since the devs typically like to be more under wraps about things. Thanks for telling me.
