Xenomorph
The Xenomorph was the most disappointing chapter I think in the history of this game no one plays him because you constantly get your ability removed because of turrets and missing has the same cooldown as hitting so going for risky tails aren't even worth it. What a shame.

for me hes a disappointment because he is so generic
"press m2 to attack slightly further" we've seen this a million times
"able to teleport around the map" traversing the vents is kinda cool but still its basically a generic teleport like demo, freddy, onryo, dredge, and so on
13 -
He jas cool design, good looks and very smart subway mechanic for mobility.
His antiloop power however, is truly just generic, annoying and unfun power and thus he will make players bored of it fast
13 -
He has an amazing design and is very accurate. Good perks. His power is very annoying to go against and is almost copy and paste from Nemesis. Regardless he was one of my dream licenses and many people say he is fun to play as.
7 -
Really bland power. The tunnels are cool, but they're kind of boring outside of that. And every match is a turret breaking simulator against good survivors. Felt like they could have done more with the power but got extremely sidetracked by the turrets and tunnels.
2 -
You can add here absurd hitbox of tail, which can get stuck about the air. Such a cool potential give hits in tiny holes like Slinger does, but they mess up even here.
3 -
Crawler Mode forcing your perspective so low is really disorienting, and on console, attacking with his tail feels really difficult and unreliable. I love Alien, I loved that Xenomorph was added to the game, but he doesn't feel fun to play. He feels like a struggle. So disappointing, and right after the disappointment that was Singularity too.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the most disappointing Killer, because Killers such as Skull Merchant and Freddy are a thing.
However, it did feel a little underwhelming, especially for a Chapter that should have been huge.
The good thing is we got Ellen Ripley with some fun Perks and a new status effect to use against Killers, but when a Survivor outclasses the Killer there is a bit of an issue.
I still find it fun to face the Xenomorph, and there are worse Killers, but yeah in the grand scheme of things this monster was a little let down.
1 -
I'm still convinced Xeno should have been a stealth killer, because that would be far better than a generic anti-loop attack that is, in fact, extremely unfun to go against.
3 -
I mean SM is original no one was really excited for her people wanted Xenomorph to be in for years and we finally get a...m2 at animation lock killer with a teleport...hooray!
0 -
Agreed!! It would fit the theme perfectly as they sneak up on their prey.
1 -
Cool design. But yes I was a little disappointed. Xeno feels like a rehash combo of previous killers.

Waited so long for this chapter and unlike most of you (on theses forums at least since there is a tiny fraction of the community here and it's almost always the same persons anyway) , i was not disapointed at all.
For what dbd is capable to offer, it's awesome, saying it is generic is untrue, it is not an opinion it's a fact. First quadrupedal killer ever with proper animations for once and no gliding everywhere (sound design and model are beyond amazing but that is not unique).
Power wise, the network system is trully unique, no powers in the game comes even close to being similar. It is a submap that works on every map in the game with footsteps detection and generators noises audible. It is a perfect power idea for this killer and works really well in the game, my only grip is, i would have liked more undetectability around it. Maybe a lingering effect or an AoE that makes the Alien stealthy (8-12m maybe with a bursr of speed when leaving a tunnel like Sadako with the Tv's).
The tail strike is a great idea that sadly is a power type that is generally disliked by people. Players feels like they have no agency facing the Xeno while most players don't like playing with it because it's to punishing to miss and hard to aim (it's ironic, like Pyramid head, people says it's no brain easy anti loop, but no one plays him because it's actually pretty hard and punishing, most Xeno or PH zone because the power is far tobrisky to use, and it's inherent to the design, it has a big punishment because you are close to the survivor). This power works well in the power fantasy of the killer, no biggie on that, it works well in game, it is nowhere near Nemesis or other ranged killers for the matter. I could break it down further but the comparison is so "Xeno fully fledged tunnels that allows it to move around and listen to survivors are the same as Demo point and click TP" that it's not even worth to further describe.
The flame turrets are another thing completly unique, they are really strong, Xeno is a killer that can be really bullied by turrets and pre running but it's mostly seen in comp or really high level (wich is not me, not 90% of you and very few people overall). But still the amount of people that still place turrets in front of stations or next to gens is baffling, if you want to slow it down, put one "behind" is pathing, you path from the gen to a loop, you put the turret behing a tree or rock that flames the loop bit not the gen, this will force the Xeno to turn around and lose sight and time or get burn. If you really want to burn him with NO counterplay, put two turrets next to eachother in an open area, job's done. Pre run the killer when the turrets are beepinf if you want to play it mega safe. Xeno must not be taken head on 1v1 like an m1 killer it's a killer you must anticipate, ambush and play around.
All in one we have a power that respect the fantasy around it (stalker in vent that has a very threatening presence but can be countered by fire or good preparations, wish it had more stealth tho).
Most ideas around the Alien power are really cool on paper, but:
- Wall crawling is stupid, cool, but stupid, it counters everything in the game, and the only way to make it work is to make it super limited or cluncky, kinda like nurse, so not ideal.
- Facehuggers would have been like Pig or Nemesis in the sense that it's something that you kinda put there but it's mostly passive. Kinda like the wall crawl, this would have been so nerfed and watered down it would have been pathetic. I agree that it would have been cool to see them in action but how the heck do you put them in ? I think they do not work and putting them in will cost to much in the power budget, you as the Xeno would have less to compensate and that's not cool.
As for it's pick rate, it is perfectly fine to have a killer that is not played by everyone everytime. Except Wesker, there is no licensed killer that is everywhere. Wesker is easy to use and hard to master with techs/exploits to research that enhance his skill ceiling. Xeno is like Pyramid head, a well done killer that just isn't for most. Keep in mind, that the more times pass, the less chance you have to encounter the killer you love (because there is more killers in the pool).
On Nightlight, the Alien is the 15th most played killer with 3% pick rate. Nightlight is not the official stats by any means but it is still something to look at, with the number of killers we have, 3% is not bad at all. You could say "Yeah but people have been waiting so long, and you never see it and im disapointed, because it's not what i wanted, it's so boring" and the rest. But it's a you problem. Maybe that hype killed it in the egg, maybe it's the strong traumatism of launch (since EVERYONE cheered and sayed the ptb was more than fine) or maybe it is the mere presence of a short ranged antiloop but in the end, it does not warrant a Sadako/Freddy solution and it would be sad to see this killer get demolished.
I think the devs should stop adding chapters for the game for some times and take a year to work on the game itself. With their disastrous coding from the dbd start, i understand that it must be hard to implement things, they are most likely fighting the code to not explode at any new things. But they should do a R6 move with a gigantic game health year. Addressing tunnel/camp, game objectives, new game mode, scarier things like ambiance. Most people in dbd are not horror fans or even knowers of the genra. So im not surprised by the complete lack of care by most for horror feature. And we adapt to not fear something after a while so it would be a challenge to even partialy succed in that regard. But still, maps are too open, i must be the only one that likes the indoors map, but there is a reason why the only killers that are scary are played in indoor maps, outdoors would be fine of they had fogs (real fogs not this purple add on watered down black vape).
Currently dbd is a competitve 1v4 game that is played in a 1v1 way, you can see the killer from across the globe, you can hear the killer from across the globe, and the most efficient ways to play is also the most boring and uninteresting part. Xeno is not the only one getting burned out and they should really take some time to work on the game itself.
Great wall of text i know, but i think it's better to actually explain an opinion instead of saying "I think Alien is one of the best chapter in this game next to Silent hill, i waited for it since i started to play back in 2018, i am not disapointed at all because i had realistic expectations and i am so happy that it is even here to begin with. If you don't encounter Xenomorph and you would like, maybe we'll meet one day because i have been playing only this killer since it launched (which means not 4 hours at all), i play a stealth build to compensate for the only disapointing thing in this killer wich is lack of stealth imo".
Here was the short answer, great day to all.

Was similary suprised by this thread. Generally the reception of Xeno was pretty good at the time. Since Xeno got launched, Wesker has taken quite a big dip in regularity of play for quite an extended period of time... so I'm not convinced myself.
What killed Xenos momentum was 2 pretty bad bugs back to back: -
- No slowdown applied on tail miss, making it impossible to loop, and extremely frustrating for survivors.
- Once that was fixed the hitbox on the tail got really badly screwed up and was catching on terrain in scenarios that made no sense.
Xeno flip-flopped from being one of the most most broken killers, to being barely usable. It's now in a decent place far as I can tell, and has maintained an above average pick rate.

Huge Alien fan, almost only played Xeno since it came out! <3
I kinda adapted to it's nerf, i even do tail flicks sometimes with controller as a console chad. It's weakness are turrets and tunnel-spawns can hurt on some maps (noticed that the spawns get even worse during an event). So i pick some very weird Addons: + 25% recovery while outside of the tunnels + turret gets automaticly destroyed when it forces you out of crawl. There're both cheap brown Addons and suprises most survs.
Another reason i love this killer are it's smooth animations and it's sounddesign.
I only play killers who are very silent and NOT anoying in the lobby, if you know what i mean... (like Huntress, Pig, PH).
3 Quick tips:
- Always use the tunnels at the start to find someone quick, unless you spawn near a safe breakable wall, break that!
- If you get lost in the tunnels, try NOT to use the yellow tunnel-GPS at all. Once you did it one time, it will always stay yellow
- Only M1 turrets, the cooldown with the tail takes longer

Too much of a rinse and repeat killer. Nothing we hadn't seen before, hence the fall off. I played a lot of games against bots to practice the tail attack and my god the turrets were ridiculous. Bots knew exactly where to place them and they were unbearable.

It's great to hear some positivity for once ! Im glad you enjoyed the Alien, i've been having a blast too. I think it's the only time i stayed in a ptb until it closed. Best chapter ever (im a huge fan so i am biaised but even objectivly, this chapter got some serious love from the devs and kudos to them for that).
1 -
I really like this chapter. And I wish I could face the Xeno more often in my Survivor games.
The only reason why I don't play this Killer more often is because I'm a controller player and he's not that great on controller. With the tail hit box being so precise, he's more of a mouse and keyboard Killer, in my opinion. Still fun, but one I find somewhat frustrating. But even if you are bad with the tail, Xeno can still be a strong basic attack Killer with great map mobility.
Console gamers probably outnumber PC gamers by quite a bit, so I think that's probably why we see less Xeno than we might otherwise.

I think you are right on this, Alien on ptb was cheered by almost everyone, some even said it was a perfect killer and a perfect chapter. The hype was enormous.
First day of live, Alien everywhere with the queen skin (seriously, i have seen more queens than drones even tho i think this skin is ugly, the mouth, the crest, the little arms and the butt are all very badly done and not like the regular queen from Aliens, the size i understand, she is tiny because of gameplay but the rest, not so much), but in term of sales, it must have been a big hit for Behaviour.
The bug made Xenomorph unberable (even for me, i was really frustrated with it, and i did a lot of ptb so i knew that something was off).
It is a say that the first impression is the most important, well it was a miss for Alien, and after that, it all went down.
Add to this the short range anti loop design that is generally disliked, TCM on fire at that moment, people burnt out of the game, the fact that dbd is still dbd at the end of the day and no Xenomorph will change that, the fact that most of this community is unfamiliar with the horror genre at best and only play dbd for the pvp comp experience and finally, the fact that their is a tendency today of consuming/judging things extremely quickly then going next (Otz video on the xenomorph ptb, someone asking right away "what is the best build", "Is xenomorph strong", "It's like demo and nemesis" and any things like that, there is no hype, discovery or even just enjoying things, this guy, without any offense, is not an anomaly, he is the norm, and that, hurt new content, killers, perks etc.)
I don't think Alien failed as a chapter, or even the Chucky chapter for that matter, but it opened my eyes on a things:
- Trailer hype, ptb hype and people saying things like "ive been waiting so long for this" or "never been so excited" are a non factor, at the end of the day, IPs are irrevelant, only the pure gameplay count (wesker best exemple, you give him a "crap" gameplay, and no one plays him, even the wesker "fans" of today. Most of the dbd knows the character by name, but doscovers the movies/games afterwards (it's not bad, but it diminuqh the power of an IP since it plays around that).
- We reached a point in dbd concept designs were there isn't much to do without new mechanics, killers are going to feel (and only feel) similar and it would help to create new mechanics, objectives or things to play around, screw simplicity, i would love some new things to interact with. Moreover, when i play killer, everything feels the same, killer power, perks, no matter, it's only down hook, rince and repeat, i would like some changes.
What makes horror, well, horror is buildup, in dbd there is no early stage of stalking, lurking ambushing (this hurts Alien too, same for ghostface, pig and myers). Dbd lacks a proper early and late game, i think they should take inspiration from movies with a slow start, an explosive midgame and a chaotic lategame.
On a positive note, Xenomorph not ending like Wesker is great. Wesker is popular only because of his gameplay, having a real loving playerbase around Alien is cool (most IP's have a small dedicated playerbase that is here out of love for the IP itself, Sadako, Pig, Demogorgon, Pyramid head, Pinhead and Freddy come to mind). Freddy mains that plays Freddy because they love Nightmare on helm street, you have my eternal respect, that is so based it's unreal. That is the true power of having an IP in a game.

It’s very unfun to go against. His potential for stealth would be awesome.
1 -
It would have been way more fun to go against, especially because we don't get stealth killers that often.
1 -
I agree! ☝️
1 -
It is wasted potential of power for such icon killer.
Like imagine if it something more close to Alien Isolation gameplay, where you hunt and sneak on Survivors and jump scare them... instead we got Nemesis gameplay with tunnels and turrets without zombies.

It is the most disappointing chapter! It has so much potential and yet they just did the most boring thing to play.
How the hell they did not design his power around facehugger alien. It would be do much nicer a mix of pig plague and demo instead of a demogorgon v2
1 -
Its subjective, for example I hate stealth killers as they are easily countered by having eyes and in some cases ears and they are just a lazy addition to the game, I mean the undetectable status effect as a power is incredibly lazy just slap a status effect and boom power.
In my opinion and I will give it to you the only interesting stealth design in this game was old freddy.
And in terms of stealth killers we have rn I think the only one who is not boring to face is chucky (it is boring if they are a scamperbrain chucky), as he is the only stealth killer that makes chase interesting with slice and dice and is not a boting m1 killer.
1 -
Yes, everyone has a different idea of what is / isn't fun in this game.
With the exception of Ghostface, I like killers who are more silent on their approach. I think they contribute towards the horror aspect of this game, which is suffering right now, and provide an interesting experience.

I personally like the idea of the tailattack and the ability to hit above some obstacles or from far away because you must learn the maps/loops of a new level and it feels satisfying when you land a surprising hit after you spend time to learn how to do it. However, the huge cooldown/slowdown by missed attack feels so bad especially hitting a turret with a tail attack is a missed attack according to the game and this feels so clumsy. You have to M1 them and this is so stupid. The controlstaition spawns are also sometimes a huge joke because sometimes they spawn so far away from generators and during the chil bone event it was just pathetic. What is the point of a teleport power that is sometimes so useless? Same issue have Onryo and Plague (her power on the edge of the map) and it is such a shame what poor work the developers did with this despite how much a cool idea it is and how much love the idea has. Turrets, on the otherside, are cool - I like it when killers have different interactions with survivors instead of just zoning out or hold w. The difference is that survivors have to play around turrets and place them right. Another issue are it's/her addons because some of them feel so useless/weird (e.g. the iri addon to injuring a survivor when you stunned by a palett or the faster vault one). However, many other killers also have useless/weird addons.
Overall, Xenomorph is a cool killer (great design, sound effects, smooth change to crawler modus and the tunnelsystem is really cool and teleport is always a good thing for killers) but feels sometimes so clumsy to play and these moments are so painful and not funny. I really hope the developers will give another to Xenomorph and make it/she smoother to play.
EDIT: It is also really annoying when turrets attacks you while you carring a survivor. Turrents should not do this in this case. Otherwise, of cause yes.

Idk it seems xeno is a very difficult kit to build, but I do wanna throw my voice in - im not a forum girlie but i made an account specifically for this. Alien (1979) is my favorite movie and favorite horror movie ever. I was soo excited for Xeno. I said for months she'd be my main if she got added. The chapter go so much right and did so much well - I think the highlight is the killer model and animations design. But the power falls short for me, on both sides of the game. I could honestly forgive how annoying and unfun it is to play against because I get to look at the beautiful xeno all match. But playing her just does not give me the power fantasy of Being a xenomorph - the most critical part for me. The tunnels are super cool as a technical development, but the kit just feels bland to use in practice. Again, I see a lot of recommendations, and a lot seem to have caveats or problems so I don't know what to recommend here (re: facehuggers [slowdown/lethality/alt hook], wall crawling, etc), but I really really really really really hope one day Xeno gets some big changes that make her feel like the legendary and Unique horror that she is. Maybe something stealth-oriented? Trying to build into that is the most fun I manage to have as her as it is right now.

I'm not dissapointed about the chapter. I llike the idea with the turrets and the teleport. The tail attack is sometimes hard to hit but maybe that needs practice. Like you said they did the best with the possibilities.
The easteregg on the map is nice but I thought the facehugger should be more visible or part of the power. The facehugger coming out of the hooks like the rats in Hawkins. They are infecting the survivor if they got hooked. On the second hook stage they have covered bodys. If they die on hook an alien comes out of the fully covered body. It does nothing but cool effects.
Even without the hook stages would be nice to see them crawling on the hook.
