Thrill of the Hunt: the nerf that never made any sense and should be reverted
So, lot of people hate Ultimate Weapon, right? It's an annoying killer perk that makes you scream and reveals your location to the killer right when you hear the terror radius, with not a lot of room for counter besides bringing Calm Spirit, an otherwise really weak survivor perk.
But imagine if, when Ultimate Weapon was about to be released, Calm Spirit had been nerfed by having its "overcome the urge to scream" feature completely removed with no other change to compensate for it, and imagine it was a nerf made with the sole purpose of making sure it couldn't counter Ultimate Weapon. Sounds pretty bad, right?
Well, a nerf like this was done to another perk not too many years ago. Hex: Thrill of the Hunt used to have a feature that gave the killer a loud noise notification when a survivor started working on a totem, dull or hex. It was already a weak perk, but at least it had a niche use that could fit into certain builds. But surprinsingly, when Mikaela was announced, bringing with her Boons as a new mechanic, TotH, was nerfed by having the feature completely removed, only to make it so killers wouldn't be able to use it to locate totems being blessed, even though Boons had unlimited uses and TotH disappeared from the game once cleansed, which doesn't seem such a terrifying counter. If anything, as a result to this, a weak perk became even weaker and forgotten, totem-defense builds became even more rare than they already were, and Circle of Healing, released as an extremely problematic perk, had no real counter, which would have been a healthy thing to have.
Today, Boons are kinda rare, hex perks are possibly in the worst state they have ever been (with a few exceptions like Plaything), and Thrill is a dead perk. We could at least have that nerf reverted so TotH could have SOME use.
Obs.: I'm aware that Calm Spirit got its own unnecessary nerf on the following year, even though it was for different reasons. It's another one that could use a buff.

I would say no, only for the fact that Face the Darkness got a huge buff because survivors will no longer want to run Calm Spirit every game when Ultimate Weapon isn't a screaming perk. That means Face the Darkness + Thrill is going to be more annoying to play against, and adding back the notification to Thrill at the same time will make that awful.
I do agree it shouldn't have been removed in the first place though. It would be like reworking Territorial Imperative in the recent patch so you can't counter Sable's perks with it.

Thrill of the Hunt got changed because Plaything totems would never get cleansed.

Agreed.

Spirit with devour hope and MDR, yes, this combo was busted

You think that's better than 28s plaything cleanse to replace it with pent that will also take forever to cleanse?

that is part of reason why they nerfed it. basically old undying used to reveal your aura whenever you began cleansing a hex. Undying got nerfed, so people smartly decided that they would use Undying, Hex:Ruin and Thrill of the hunt where Thrill of the hunt gave loud noise notification for cleansing a totem.
So now they nerfed both undying and thrill of the hunt to not give global aura reading or loud noise notification when beginning to cleanse a totem. Somehow killer having perk to defend their hex totem was "overpowered".

When they nerfed undying, they also argued it was redundant with Thrill of the Hunt:
Which sounds funny now, considering both ended up without their information features and there are lots of perks now that are more redundant than that: genetic limits and septic touch, Teamwork: power of two and Blood Pact, and hell, we just got Unforeseen, which is insanely similar to Trail of Torment.

exactly. It is like they're running out of idea's for perks.

That's not true, Undying revealed your aura only near DULL totems. The intention was that it stopped you from dodging the effects of undying by removing the places the hex could relocate to.
Thrill's nerf was entirely so that boons couldn't be countered when they were trying to sell a survivor whose whole schtick was boons.

Just use calm spirit.

Honestly, the fact there literally is no way to "defend" hex at all feels stupid, all of them are pretty much useless unless survivors are wildly incompetent, might as well scrap hex concept altogether.

that is the nerfed version. the original version of undying is that it revealed your aura for cleansing all totems. this was changed to dull totems only. Thrill of the hunt gave loud noise notification when you begin cleansing a hex totem. they removed this and reduced cleansing speed.
