Dissatisfaction with the cosmetics trend
First of all, the newly released cosmetics for Vecna, the Troupe, and original survivors are really cool. I really enjoy the designs.
Also, FINALLY a male survivor has made it to the Dev's choice bundle! (go, Jake!)
However, I have noticed people on Twitter being displeased lately with the cosmetics trends. I will point out some of them:
- Original survivors like Claudette and David still not getting their anniversary masquerade masks
- Jeff's belly being toned down in his newest skin, even though he is a fine representation of people with bigger body size - what message is this sending?
- Mikaela getting a TON of skins this year, while characters like Haddie have suffered from a cosmetics drought. And even when Haddie does get a cosmetic, it's a linked set, and/or has a backpack.
- all of the newly released D&D cosmetics are for white people. Why not Claudette? Or Gabriel?
I don't want to link all of the posts I've been witnessing, but please do be aware of these posts. People are dissatisfied.
I will only link to a fanmade concept for multiple outfits for Haddie. Now why can't you give her clothes like this? I would love to buy these:

I sympathize with most of these, but having seen some discussions about the Jeff skin, it strikes me as a little bit silly. For one thing, did they even actually change his body in any way? Because it looks like the outfit just covers up the parts of his model that otherwise make him look fatter. And even if they did, it would fit the theme of the skin.

I'm pretty sure that in the Twitter post I saw, the side comparison view of him in the newest outfit had his belly shrunk.

I'll actually link this, just to show how absurd things have been:

I love Gabe's and Haddie's fits, but where's the rest…?

That haddie outfit is so cool. I wish I'd ever seen it in game

Behaviour is a company that has employees, who need to get a monthly salary.
They create skins for most played characters, so they can monetize their work the most.
You can't blame them for doing that.Jeff's belly being smaller is a bad thing? I am not offended by it as a plus size person.
Mikaela is loved by the community so why not make skins for her?
I really feel like community just wants to make company's life difficult.
Why don't we just accept decisions of the company on their own playground?

You make good points. However, I love diversity. If they don't want to spend money on making skins for people of color, 'cause they don't think it's profitable for them, then at least let us use mods. I've seen so many good fan designs/models on Twitter, and it's such a big shame to not have them in the game.

Another idea I've just come up with is - hold community contest more often, and only pick characters that are less popular as winners. Yun-Jin is not too popular, but she won the last contest with a fan skin, and is is absolutely amazing. Yui's community skin from one of the previous years is also very good and very popular.
BHVR will never sell those skins for real money (auric cells), so there is no excuse to have the most popular characters chosen for the contest.

Meng and Yun get LOTS of love I am not buying it

Well, why would they pick only less popular characters? This doesn't make any sense either. This is whole different thing.

We don't have to accept the decisions made by a company that claims to embrace diversity, yet does the exact opposite for recent poc survivors that have been neglected. I mean, I'm not gonna stop you from buying anything of course. But don't be surprised when ppl voice their opinions about this topic and continue to do so.

Honestly it's really disheartening/annoying to see the same few characters get skins ALL the time while others get *nothing* for months and months and months. And when they do it's linked, or its part of a rift.
Meg went months (from September of 23, the cheerleader outfit) without getting a skin in a collection or the shop. She's only gotten recolors in the rift as of late and she is REALLY popular. I understand Mikaela is popular and no one is saying they shouldn't make skins for her but people play other characters.
And let's be honest, BHVR is going to make money either way. I doubt they pay the artists involved any extra "commission" if a skin does well so what is the point in only releasing skins for a few characters?
Idk why I see a lot of Mikaela enjoyers getting so upset about the idea that BHVR stops giving her skins for a little, especially cause she's been in so many rifts (I think nearly every one since 2024 started) AND she's gotten so. Many. Shop skins on top of that. I get it you want to have cute skins for your main, but so does everyone else
Also, because people often assume on the Internet. I am NOT upset at people who like Mikaela. I don't hate you, or want her removed from the game or whatever. I just want my mains and other people's mains to get love and representation too

I feel like they should at least not pick a character who has won a community skin before. Like I *love* both of the Clown community skins they're great but like, him winning twice since they started is a little ridiculous.
Clown is the only one I can think of whose won community skin twice. But my point still stands

popular survivors and killers get more cosmetic, unpopular ones get once in while, dunno why everyone expecting devs waste their money on haddie skin, how often do you see a haddie anyway?
2 -
How often does she get new skins is the real question. Especially when they botched her debut with no green rarities and her purple skin was a set. Why would anyone want to play her if they doomed her to fail at the beginning with nothing. Then neglect her further

Because these contests are an opportunity to give less popular characters love, but not miss out on profit, since these skins are never sold with auric cells (not counting the rift that has a lot of stuff in it). A big argument for giving more skins to Mikaela etc. is that they are popular so they will bring in more profit. The contest skins could be less popular characters, because there is no profit excuse for them, and it would be a really nice gesture towards people of color, and all of us fans of those less popular characters. :)

Well said. People, remember when David was announced as gay? Guess what happened - he immediately stopped getting cosmetics, and didn't get any for months, until enough of us voiced our dissatisfaction with it.
Haddie also suffered from the cosmetics drought, until our voices became strong enough. Sadly, she's once again neglected, but also almost every cosmetic she's received has a backpack, and many people dislike backpacks. 1 cosmetic is also linked, so no opportunities for mix-and-matching. I like the cosmetics she's gotten, but she needs more. And some cosmetics without a backpack for a change. I've seen several good fan-made concepts for Haddie's cosmetics (including 3D models), and she could slay so hard. She just needs proper cosmetics to be able to do that. She has so much potential to be an ultimate badass and a popular choice among players.
Cosmetics are those that determine that. Why do I say that? Remember Zarina? She used to be rare. But now that she's been getting cosmetics (and unique ones), she's been played much more.

I'll just add that Mikaela is probably my 2nd favorite female survivor (after Sable). I get why people love her, there's so much about her that's fun and expressive. And yet, I don't want her to "suck up" all of the cosmetics quota, because guess what - Haddie can get amazing cosmetics. So can Jane. 2 divas that have a great cosmetic potential and a lot of us recognize it.

I get this issue (the chicken or the egg) of whether a character being unpopular leads to less skins, or does the lack of good skins (or variety) lead to less popularity.
Look at Haddie's skins - like Quizzy mentioned, on release, her green rarity skins weren't in the shop. Her purple rarity one was a set (an amazing skin though, but a set nonetheless). And her base recolors changed basically nothing about her head. (until much later when they added make-up).
New skins since then - one is a set (and many people dislike it, it's a specific taste), and all others have a backpack (which many people hate).
When you read all this, it's easy to see why she was and keeps being an unpopular choice. Zarina was also not popular, but she started receiving many new cosmetics, mix-and-matchable, and with a specific style, that separated her from other girls. She's now much more played. Cosmetics can and do make a difference - if they are done properly and with care.
BHVR definitely has the power to popularize less popular characters. They have players and content creators who give free advice. Otzdarva has given a ton of feedback on so many things in the game - and he's constantly ignored. Lillipie has given advice on cosmetics and hair of black people a lot - and I don't think the devs have taken her feedback. These are both Fog Whisperers btw, and one would think their feedback would be taken into consideration.
2 -
Well, because he became less popular, as far as I observed.
I don't see much David's these days. I also know people think this character got destroyed for them by lore changes ;p

They are fog whisperers - they are content creators and their work is about promoting the game.
They have different teams that give feedback on the game.
Fog whisperers just think they are more than content creators for the company, which they seems like are not. That's why some people left FW program, their ego got burried after latest announcements.
