Whiffing Since Vecna Update
I feel like I'm losing my mind here, but I have been just missing so many hits since the Vecna update and it feels terrible at this point. All of them look like fair hits to me. I've got 4.8k hours of mostly killer, so I generally know what hits should and shouldn't connect. And it's not even like survivors are spinning half the time. The are just right in front of me, I swing, and it whiffs for no apparent reason. I main Onryo, and most of the time I can see her curse mark inside of the survivor, but there's no hit detection. And it's not like I'm auto aiming into a wall or anything like that either.
I check survivor ping, and they all look fine. And I'm fairly confident it's not my ping as I've never really had an issue, and I'm not really seeing other indications of low ping.
It just feels like hitboxes or hit detection has somehow been changed since the Vecna update. It's extremely frustrating. Am I the only one experiencing this? Did survivor hit-boxes get changed in some way?

I encounter the same thing. But it's specific for every survivor, like there are survivors that can always be hit as usual, and there are ones that somehow ignore my hits unless I'm literally touching them. I thought it's because those are cheaters, so they can 'dodge' hits by somehow moving their hitbox forward one meter or something.

It happens frequently enough that I don't think it's cheaters. It just feels like every lunge swing is a huge risk at this point. And like just one or two whiffs like that can basically cost you the game a lot of the time.

So called "subtle" cheaters are not as rare as you might think.

too bad they didn't keep the turning transition animations from a few years ago. they made the movement look and feel less like a PS2 game, and it helped counter the incredibly skilled interaction of survivor throws mouse/controller across the room and you get auto aimed due to horrible coding.

While I agree I miss the old transitions due to how smooth they looked. I cant agree about 360's.
They do take skill, but they only work against inexperienced players.

360 is literally a tech that uses a bug in the game's code.

Im sorry to say this but itW only works if youre bad

Or if you're on console
Or if you use a controller on PC
Or if you have less than ideal ping
Or if the game just says screw you today3 -
Yup, the game redirecting my hit to a completely different direction from where I intended to hit is me being bad, sure.

There is a forced short M1 attack bug, that can steal hits from the killer. It's been in the game for well over a year, but it seems like ever since DBD moved to the new unreal engine, a lot more people started noticing it in their games. We've gotten zero feedback from BHVR, even though a bug report has existed for literally over a year.

This seems like it could be the likely culprit. It does feel like a lot of the time I may be missing because it does a short hit rather than a lunge. Do we know what triggers it? Or is it just random?

The game makes proximity checks to see if the killer is allowed to lunge, but these proximity checks are completely separate from hit validation checks. So the game can force a killer to make a short M1 attack instead of a lunge… and then tell the killer the hit missed because the survivor was too far away for a short M1 attack.
It's one of the biggest "secret" bugs the game has, and it can steal hits from the killer every single game. But so far, no one from BHVR will comment on it.

That's wild and explains a lot. Damn. Well at least I know my frustration is justified.

I guess BHVR will only "notice" this bug when some cc like Otzdarva complains about it.

i feel like the M1 hitbox has shrunk. I've been standing in front of walls and swinging and not hitting them.

That is the bug report, that was made in May of 2023. It's still "under review".
