Proposed Solution to Switch Performance and Cross Progression

Hello,

Intro, feel free to skip:

I've been playing on switch for a few years. Casually at first, but when cross progression was first announced, I played more regularly and changed my purchasing habits to adapt for the future cross progression. Of course that fell through. A year or so ago, I tried the game on PC and it made it clear to me that the switch port is not a product that a company should responsibly release. Forget the graphics, I've seen quotes from survivors saying that they have to change their play style because "the frame rate drops make doing generators impossible". I can vouch for that at times, but let that sink in, the games stated objective is not possible to achieve. Not chase, not a finicky killer power, the switch can't handle the mini game they made so you don't fall asleep while sitting still and holding a button. This is clearly a bit of hyperbole, but it highlights a significant issue.

The barriers:

I'm not unsympathetic. Nintendo is a pain. They want money and likely too much for cross progression. They have had or been leaking the switch 2 every quarter for as long as cross progression has been discussed. I'm sure there have been discussions to the effect of "well most of the issues will be fixed when we port to the next system" that never comes. I get it, bhvr is likely not the enemy here.

The proposal:

Ultimately, I think the solution is simple. The player base on switch is small. Discontinue the service. Switch can't keep up with the software as is, so adjust the minimum requirements to reflect that. Negotiating cross progression for a dead game is cheaper than a live one, if an exit clause is not built into the contract already. Save money on the switch/switch 2 dev team. Save players money on the excess Nintendo market fees that get passed along to the consumer. Reduce the number of players you alienate with terrible ports.

They obviously have an actuarial that is crunching the numbers on this, but maybe it's time to look at the lottery tickets you may be buying are a sunk cost.

we already have cross progression for every platform (except mobile since it’s a different game) confirmed so negotiations in this regards are done and not an argument.

You must not have heard. The most recent news does not apply to switch. They have stated that Nintendo negotiations are ongoing. As they have been for years.

that’s not the most recent update - the one from the anniversary stream is. And that specifically included all platforms, with more info supposedly coming later this summer

Hey listen, I'm happy to be wrong about this.

I watched the anniversary stream. Switch was not confirmed. They were weirdly vague about it. When you sign up for a behavior account, you can't link to switch. You can link to Xbox and PlayStation. Not that those are cross play. I'll believe it when I see something from behavior.

they were vague about it in the stream, but i remember an official dev statement either Jeremia the forums or on twitter that confirmed it’s including all platforms (except for mobile for obvious reasons)

the PS/Xbox linking on the BHVR account was already active way before cross progression announcement btw and iirc is there for Twitch drops and stuff like that which is not available for Switch.
