All Platforms - The audio issues are getting out of hand now
Ever since 8.2.0, footsteps have been way quieter on certain surfaces, certain footware make significantly less sound overall, flashbangs and firecrackers no longer make noise when not in line of sight, maps like Midwich and Saloon produce ZERO footstep audio (Saloon is the biggest offender).
This isn't a "please provide more info" post. These issues are blatant and booting up the game for 6 seconds will replicate all of these problems for anyone that needs to test them.

I play on PS5. These issues happened when I was playing AS Dredge and when I was playing against Onryo. I have not tested when playing AS another killer.
- I cannot hear survivors running near me, and the audio cue for dropping a flashbang does not happen (happened several matches)
- Onryo's static noise when demanifested is either too quiet or non-existent. This was very noticeable before the update but now she just appears out of nowhere.

I would like to add that the chase music is starting too early and ends way too late, so you still think you are getting chased, but you are actually not. Survivor perspective only.
3 -
I've also noticed moments when the chase music is very loud, but the killer is no longer around.
2 -
I think the UI for being chased is bugged in the same way. I saw someone being chased. I waited for them to be downed because they went on a gen and it still showed them being chased for sometime after.
2 -
the sounds of footsteps and grunts of pain that do manage to reach players' ears (probably by god's will) are also extremely delayed and quiet, everyone has tier 1 iron will basekit right now
2 -
I've noticed this too and it's been an absolute pain. Perhaps the softened noises from Lights Out 2.0 content in preparation for that modifier have leaked into the main game? I had to download an audio equalizer program JUST to be able to hear the game normally. It's like everyone has permanent Iron Will, Light-Footed, AND Calm Spirit. It's awful and unplayable.
I also have this issue on Survivor-side, I can no longer hear things like Myers' heavy breathing and Ghostface's shroud, or Knight's clanking, or even Demogorgon's loud footsteps. It makes Survivor difficult. Something is very much up with the sound.
BHVR, if this is how the sounds will be in Lights Out 2.0 PLEASE scrap it or lessen it. It's too much.

Noticed this too, I am seeing chases begin way too early in stealth as Ghostface for example. I'll be in Shroud and the chase starts with me behind behind a rock, in Night Shroud, when chase isn't supposed to activate that soon. This blows my cover and ruins the point of his stealth.
This also happens on Chucky, Myers in Tier I, Sadako demanifested, Wraith in Cloak, and other stealth Killers. It's like everyone has old Spine Chill.
2 -
Myers' breathing is bugged by weird audio acclusion

you might be right, they're known for breaking a lot of things in preparation for upcoming game modes, but if this is how they test lights out 2.0, i have no words man

I cannot hear survivor's footsteps while playing as nemesis.
I can only hear the chase music.
3 -
The largest offenders I've seen so far in terms of footstep audio are:
Lara AND Alucard (Biggest offenders)
Adam
Aestri
Renato (Sandal audio was already WAY too quiet pre-bug)
The only theory I can come up with is that all of these characters (and more) use the same audio file for footstep noises, and thus all are affected similarly.

They should take this bug as a god time to normalize all Survivor audio from footsteps to screams.

It seems that sometimes you hear footsteps louder than you should as well. Today there was a moment I was going through an area of Toba's Landing with a bit of clutter (but none of them surrounding me up close) and suddenly I started hearing footsteps as loud as if a survivor was running right in front of me. I could see no one. Looked around, nothing. I looked behind every rock, nothing, not even scratch marks. The sound just came out of nowhere.
2 -
Also, survivors doesn't scream anymore when hooked…
2 -
Has anyone else also noticed that gens are way too loud? I can be like 16 meters away and it sounds like i'm sitting right on top of the gen.

I was in a match against a Ghostface. I couldn't hear the "rustling clothes sound" he makes when near. There was no indication at all that he was near until he fully marked me and then started chasing me. He was completely silent the whole game.

I suggest in the meantime, while they fix this, you turn your volume up or wear headphones with the volume boosted, I guess? For whatever good that will do. I've also noticed sound issues on Myers, Nemesis, and others. The audio is definitely glitched for both sides. As Ghostface I can't hear MY OWN SHROUD, as Myers I can't hear MY OWN BREATHING. I can't even hear Nemesis whip noises… AS NEMESIS.
I just wish we didn't need to do this or download sound equalizers to fix a glitch. It isn't even just an issue as Survivor but as Killer too. It has made trying to hunt anyone as Killer on maps like Eyrie even more painful; I ended up slugging some poor Ada in ironically enough, a Ghostface round against a Bill and Renato who knew about this glitch and sent me to Eyrie to abuse it, because I deadass could not hear Ada. I couldn't hear her moans of pain at all. Then when I did find her, I had Bill and Renato using the sound glitch to set up just the most ridiculous saves every time I tried to get her off the ground, to the point I got sick of the sound glitch abuse and just slugged everyone. I hook Bill and Renato, sat with the Ada, and then finally let her go after both the glitch abusers died.
It's even worse on Midwich. I was later on, practicing Pinhead chain hits against my friends in customs, we got Midwich. Not only could I barely hear my chains, and couldn't hardly hear the chain hunt chains that spawn to snare Survivors (so lost info), I couldn't hear anyone's footsteps. No, they weren't running any sort of stealth perks, it just DID this.
I play with headphones at full volume like a Spirit Main. I can normally hear breathing in lockers. My headphones are good quality gaming headphones. The sound issues have persisted for a while but they've gotten even worse now and dear God am I so friggin' SICK of it. I got so tired of it I got a sound equalizer app called fxSound that I run every Killer match now, and guess what?
I still can't hear footsteps of some Survivors, some sound effects on some maps, and some audio cues you are intended to hear as both Killer and Survivor. It's so. SO. Frustrating.
And in addition to all this? In addition to this? I am pretty sure Dracula's noises are bugged, because whenever he switches forms I'll hear random wolf growls or Survivor screams (?!) in the background of the sound when he's moving between say… bat and vampire form. It's the weirdest thing in the world.

I'm getting the opposite, for me it sounds like the gens are being heard from like 16 meters when I'm right on top of them as both Killer and Survivor. They are too quiet. Some Survs are not screaming when hooked and sometimes even when hit. I'm also not hearing Chucky's footsteps which is super frustrating when you are actively trying to avoid a 2 foot tall killer doll.

Anyone also noticed cross map screams dont sound distant at all in outdoor maps? there used to be a reverb effect for those but since its also tied to audio occlusion with all these other issues, it also bothers me so much that its not there anymore.

Sounds have been awful this patch. Idk if it's cause of the lights out mode, but sounds were somewhat decent before this patch.
Funny thing is- I am a spirit main. And I do play with sound cranked, so it's def not a sound issue on my end. I just hope they address the sound issues.
3 -
I am so sorry, I can't imagine how bad Spirit and Drac mains have it right now.
3 -
The entity claws make no sound when entering 2nd hook stage.
2 -
The audio seems completely screwed. I used to be able to precisely locate survivors by hearing.
With the recent patch, I can't hear them even right next to me sometimes. It's weird and keeps getting worse.

'maps like Midwich and Saloon produce ZERO footstep audio (Saloon is the biggest offender)'
I don't know how to call this phenomenom but about Midwich, that is happens since the start when the siren resounds:
all other sounds are dynamically reduced when something is louder. Even the very loud of the chainsaw sound is reduced. Maybe it is the 'sound occlusion' thing or whatever but I'm convinced the same thing happens everywhere on every maps.
The unbalanced sounds (of survivors as killers as well) happens since the last 'Blood Moon' Event (you know, the event where everything was bloody red on the map): you could reduce the groanings (as injuried survivor) on some red zone on the map.
Now, every tiles with walls between survivor & killer can drastically reduce all the sounds (breathing, footsteps, vaults) as soon as the killer hasn't an open bright sight of view on the survivor. No 'Iron Will' needed, survivor can easily noticed when he is silent or when he fast vaults but no sound is produced (killer just has a 'visual' notification: a red arrow on the side of his screen).
During the following Event of the 'Blood Moon' (you remember this one with the 'Trash' yellow pallets) you could be perfectly silent (no footstep at all) as survivor & to leave no track at all (killer could do the same thing with no terror radius/heart beat).
So now, I'm convinced the sound balance is still a bit broken because too many parameters are taken into account & that results some unbalanced sounds everywhere & in all games…Post edited by n000b51 on0 -
This is still broken as of the new patch. Grunts of pain are still going completely silent when the chase music is happening, unless the survivor is super close to the killer and in line of sight.

At least this confirms I’m not crazy, I was thinking my headphones were broken, it only seems to effect killer survivor is extremely loud.

Jumping in here: this seems to be an issue with audio occlusion. Many survivors are completely silent if there is any object at all between the survivor and killer.
To reprod: spawn hatch next to a tree and stand behind the tree. The tree will completely mask the sound of hatch out in the open

I’m a spirit main and I know I was able to track much better before the Ue5 change.
The husk bug makes playing short loops almost impossible without grass being nearby to see survivor movement and when you do get away from the husk, sounds sometimes become Omnidirectional.
On some maps it’s fine, like I don’t have as much of a problem on some of the Macmillan or autohaven maps, but as others have stated the biggest offenders are indoor maps and maps with a lot of ambient noise like Toba Landing or Eyrie of Crows. It’s like the map soundscape mutes all footsteps, breathing, and grunts of pain.
When survs are running iron will sometimes it also mutes their footsteps in addition to breathing and grunts of pain. Some survivors sound much farther away than they actually are when you’re in phase (biggest offender is Belmont and his various skins). Boot audio is still bugged to be quieter than other cosmetics. It makes playing spirit a real chore right now as she’s the only one heavily dependent on sound to track.
Bhvr please do not let her go to 2v8 in this state as she will basically be unplayable. 8 survivors making sounds at the same time was already going to be difficult to track without all of the current sound bugs.

In November, flash grenades are still thrown silently, and the footsteps of the rushing survivors are not heard indoors. In addition, Ada is as quiet as other survivors who carry IRON WILL.
A spec that frustrates survivors like the Halloween event will soon be fixed as a bug, but the killer's frustration will continue to be left unchecked?

Sounds have been fluctuating to a piercing low tone in Midwich. It's like getting your ears popped when your on a plane.

I hope they fix it soon. As a legally blind player, I can't see if I can't hear. Sometimes, it sounds like I'm in a fishbowl and I can't do anything. I can't hit skill checks, I can't listen for the killer. All I can do is spin in circles until the killer finds me and kills me…..okay, maybe the last part doesn't happen, but I am the first to die.
