distortion overnerfed

with all perks and add ons combine killers have nearly 100 things to see survivors aura, they can easily make a build to have a permanent wallhack the entire game and you just gutted the one single thing survivors have to counter that. great job bhvr you've just made survivors experience even more bad and awful for survivors

    Yeah, and one perk counters all of those perks, disincentivizing running them. Killers could have 500 ways to read auras, but if all of them are shut down by a single perk then the quantity does not matter.

    Honestly, if number tweaks were too much to ask, all they had to do was tie token recharge with gen repair.

    This would fix the main issue people complain about: Survivors hiding and not helping.

    It would be much harder to hide in endgame since to keep hiding they would need to come out and do gens (and if a Killer finds a partially repaired gen then they know that someone is around even without needing aura).

    But well, rip Distortion I guess if the Devs don't change their mind. For the vast majority of Survivors they will get 3 uses per match tops since all their chases will end on a hook. Complainers won.

    Goodbye altruist-stealth build, hello yet another gen perk or Sprint Burst.

    Good ol' perk variety getting lowered again...

    this is such a good idea. it would force people using it to do the objective to recharge it to not get their aura read instead of staying hidden in coners of the map.

    I mean distortion players already usually do gens; they do gens and hide, just stealth-ing their way to each gen. meanwhile, the other 3 are splitting the pressure amongst themselves because our 4th just wants to do gens and leave. Forcing them to take chase to get use from distortion is great. Otherwise, what really changes?

    solo q is hard as is to get a team who all know to do the objective so having teammates that do gens is always a plus. However, there is also a time to not do a gen and tying distortion to gen progress will just reinforce the same stealthy playstyle that sells out your team

    these are usually the players with 0 hooks while everyone else has rotated hooks, someone is probably on death hook and the distortion user usually will not bodyblock, take a down or just take the pressure off of the rest of the team. Do all the gens you want but once it turns into a 3 v 1 the other 2 teammates are screwed because the distortion user will always rat to be the last survivor - that's just their play style and distortion only further encourages them that they can make it to end game

    Literally had to make an account for this but there are so many ways to actually make the distortion nerf fair because I use distortion in my survivor build for information gathering. I get why the devs did it. People were using it to literally stay undetected for whole games and killers were struggling to find them. Problem with the change is that distortion is the only consistent hard aura counter (off the record only works for a short period and requires a hook state and shadow step requires being in a boons radius and wasting more time to boon a totem) in a game loop that values information gathering and this change punishes players who use the perk for information gathering. Theres also a lot of unforeseen consequences like more killers running lethal because lethal would automatically make distortion unusable for a majority of the trial and means survivors effectively brought an empty perk slot.

    If you really wanted to encourage people to engage in the game heres my ideas for changes and tweaks.

    -Keep the token stack but have regaining it tied to gen progress like how one of the other users said or being chased. It forces stealth survivors to actually engage in the game rather than staying undetected if they want to keep their distortion stacks.

    -Remove the cooldown entirely and give survivors 4 tokens. Once youre done youre done and realistically this should tell you if a killer has a full aura build and allow you to counter them accordingly or warn your team in swf.

    -Do not allow token progress in the situation that the survivor is dying or hooked. Its so easy for a survivor to regain token stacks like that because you're almost always guaranteed one token from the dying to hooking to killer leaving area process.

    I mean, Distortion itself kind of hurt perk variety because it was just so good at countering auras.

    I think it'll still do a good job at countering them, you just won't be able to have it up the entire game.
