Skill Checks right when letting go of a gen

There has to be some way to get rid of this that can't be abused. Maybe I'm just profoundly unlucky, but well over half the time I let go of a gen, I almost simultaneously get a skill check (and immediate explosion). If I didn't know better, I'd think it was by design, lol. I've been at this for years and it's been the same story.

Surely, there must be something that can be done. Like if the button is released any skill check within .5 (or even .25) seconds is canceled.

I'm not sure this would even worth abusing, so I don't see a downside, given it's easy to implement.
