If there was a "concede" option...

A lot of people ask for a "concede" option (mostly when multiple Survivors get slugged), or just whenever the opponent is way ahead. I would support the idea for both sides, but I can't help wondering how it's going to work. A lot of people have said there should be a voting system for Survivors, so I'm curious...

  • What would happen if the vote were a tie? Would the Killer have to vote to accept the surrender?
  • How would it work for the Killer? Would they just hit "concede" and end the match, same as a DC? Or would the Survivors have to vote to accept the surrender?

    It's not going to happen. Nobody would ever get to finish a game on top of the issues you've pointed out.

    BHVR is trying out rubberbanding gens in 2v8. If that works then it can be applied to gens in the main game. That will help with matches where gens are going too fast, or if a survivor dies early, dooming the remaining survivors.

    BHVR should fix the game before adding options to escape crappy matches. Otherwise it will just enoucrage the community to give up more often.

    I'll admit, I haven't heard much about the changes to this iteration of 2v8 (other than the three additional playable Killers). I told myself I'd rather be surprised by the new info when it gets closer. So I'm curious how this "rubberbanding gen" thing is going to work...

    If these changes (along with the changes in the first 2v8) are going well, I'd like to see this mode become permanent. It seems unlikely that they'd implement any of these changes to 1v4...

    I'm guessing that the gens will go faster or slower when the ratio of gens completed to survivors hooked or dead, is too vast. So if a survivor dies with four or five gens left, the gens go faster. If a killer has only one hook when survivors complete their second gen, the gens go slower. Something along those lines.

    Do we need a concede button? Seems survivors are perfectly fine just pointing at the hook and the killer is able to open the gate too.

    Probably not, if the rubberbanding gen thing helps to even the playing field a bit.

    My biggest concern is that gens aren't two-state, either completed or not. If the game rubberbands towards gen speed, survivors can realistically split on separate gens and take advantage of a huge speed increase during that time. I'm hoping the devs balance it by gen progress completion, so more gen progress overall results in a swing back towards slower speed.

    In other words, having 1 gen completed doesn't mean survivors are at 4 gens, 2 more of those could be at >90%, which is realistically 3 gens complete for pressure.

    I've played plenty of online verses games that have a concede button, and it's awful... I would strongly discourage this addition to the game.

    What basically happens is: -

    • games you're slightly ahead, the other side quits early.
    • games you're slightly behind, your team gives up immediately and turns a possible comeback into a guaranteed loss.

    If this was infrequent it would be fine... but it isn't... it happens almost every game.

    Basically noone ever gets to enjoy a win, and you almost have to deliberately start throwing so your opponent doesn't quit on you early... you effectively just feel disconnected all the time, like you don't even care about winning or losing, or playing the game at all because you know it only stands about a 10% chance of making it past the first 1/3rd of the match.

    However considering DBD is an insanely snowballey game for both sides, where literally one chase can literally make or break the game, a concede option would be even more miserable, and I would very intensely caution against adding it... DBD has fantastic highs and really low lows... however, one thing DBD is not is boring...

    You add a concede mechanic, and thats exactly what it'll become, and thats the worst crime a video game can commit. Yes DBD might suck sometimes, but that is far better than spending every game being blank and indifferent because you know one side is just gonna quit 90% of games.
