Ask all your friends to record stats of their games, do the same yourself, then you can compared numbers to Otz.

Giving this playerbase a number they can misread as a perfect approximation of their skill is a horrendous idea and I'm glad BHVR realised that too when they moved away from Grades and towards MMR.

Too much work, they should allow us get our mmr through their website in a readable form at least per month!

Consider why it takes a bunch of hassle to abuse a system not intended to be used to just know what your fake skill number is, maybe?
And as I said, we should not be giving the community ammo to pretend theyre more skilled than each other.

This is so true because if you listen to the video posted, the user is hoping this will change the way people have opinions of this game. He says people are not recognizing that this game is competitive, that people see this as a party game.
People will have to hand out their MMR receipt before pooping out their opinion…
However this is ignoring that our conception of this game is subjective and the fact that BHVR will take us seriously as players regardless of what MMR we have or what our conception of the game is. BHVR listens, bit rarely obeys.
He seems to be doing all of this, hoping that his side of argument can get an edge in discussion DBD Balance in the community by showing off his MMR, but any game designer would recognize that they are not making a game just for sweatlords, they make a game for everyone, from baby megs to Otzarvas on steroids.
I for one cant wait to hear the argument on reddit, "Uhm so what's your MMR?" 🤓 so I can laugh at and dismiss them from my consideration. Like who even cares? I know BHVR don't, so why should I?

People already love to argue in bad faith like "oh you must be low MMR". Or here on the forums "oh you only have so many posts".
You're not gonna get rid of any of that behavior. That being said I also don't understand what knowing my MMR does for me, or anyone else for that matter. Except for what you say, bragging rights and possibly attempting to center balance discussions around high MMR players opinions.
Besides that, the way MMR is calculated is busted to begin with, so the number representing it is equally as busted.

Except it wouldn't be pretending. And how would people abuse the system? We already know that escaping through the exit gates and getting 3+ kills raises your mmr while hatch doesn't change it.

The game has been centered around trying to be balanced. Why do you think dbd has nerfs, buffs, and reworks? They're trying to balance the game so everything can be fun and viable. And if dbd allowed us to see our mmr, we'd be able to understand our own individual skill level, rather then guessing what our individual skill level is.

If we didn't center balance around high mmr, Dead Hard, BNP, AHS, and many other busted things wouldn't have been nerfed. DBD is balanced around high mmr and high mmr player opinions.

in our heads:
blood type = practical medical use and info in case of emergency MMR number = something people would try and fail to use and brag about

While I see why you'd make that assumption I don't believe that that is the entire truth. I believe BHVR is trying to find a balance where high MMR players as well as low MMR players can have fun with the game. And this is extremely difficult in the particular case of Dead by Daylight.
And my observation here is that DBD as it is, is many different things to different people and therefore there are many different ideas on how the game should be.
As DBD is now and in particular public lobby matches, to which I count SoloQ as a substantial part, you will essentially get 5 People who think about the Game in a completely different way. When you take for example Counter Strike: Source, the gameplay - the representation - the marketing of it which shapes the expectation with which you go into the game is rather clearly defined. This is not the case for Dead by Daylight.
In order to really satisfy the majority of players you essentially have to treat the game in separate ways. This is not an easy task for a studio like BHVR, especially given the speed at which they develop the game and the focus they have.
In my opinion the Custom Match feature should have been expanded upon massively with an ingame feature to host game modes and variations that you can join where certain rules are more clearly defined.
Would that split the playerbase? Yes but at this point you have to bite the bullet, because the playerbase is already split and without an outlet it will continue to eat itself up.
Now I am getting quite offtopic with this and I think it would be best to make a new thread for this, but the gist of it is that the MMR for SoloQ serves its own purpose, it is not enough to keep DBD growing at the speed that it could actually grow. It is clear that there is a high demand for this game and a lot of people would dearly love to love this game, it's sad that BHVR is taking it into this direction. I really do believe they are making their lives unnecessarily difficult.

People are currently abusing privacy requests to badger bhvr into handing them a fake number that doesn't matter, but everyone really wants to use to bash each other over the head with.
There is no purpose to seeing your MMR outside of two specific reasons:
1. To minmax MMR gains to make a fake number go up.2. To weaponise your MMR to state that you are better than another player, despite MMR not being a perfect measure of skill.
If you want to know if you're improving, taking a rolling average of your winrate is already more than doable with self-reporting data to applications like Nightlight, or frequently performing VOD reviews.

- That's not case at all. that might be for a small number of people but for the majority, they just wanna see their MMR and actually have discussions with people with the same or higher MMR.
- Some people would, that is true but it would also lead to people listening to players with high MMR because they would have the most credibility when it comes to balance issues in DBD.
The reason why BHVR hides these things is because they don't want people in the community to have a bigger voice than them especially in regards to the balance and design choices of their game. NIghtlight is based on community stats that you have to manually send in every single match and it doesn't track your MMR at all. My point is that having conversations/discussions about balance issues with other players is impossible since we can't see our MMR. If the support system is getting clogged up with request then maybe BHVR should implement visible MMR instead of letting players go through an arduous process just to see it.

For me I would be just curious to see if it actually goes up. I've been playing this game for many years and it seems like I can't crawl out of low MMR. According to my stats my escape rate was just over 40% last year so I must be higher than low MMR but I still wonder. I would just like to know where I sit.

That's not true at all, well for me. I just want to know where I sit. I still seem to be matched with a lot of new players. As I mention my escape rate is around 40% so is matchmaking broken or am I not gaining MMR?

the dbd community is always unhappy when such significant updates happen, thanks to them (and mostly these are sweaty killer mains here) survivors can't get basekit unbreakable and knowing this they abuse it with slug gaming from the start! So showing mmr is necessary, stop creating fake problems the game needs significant changes, everything is so boring and monotonous now!

1: how would showing your MMR number be a significant change?
2: What/how does showing this number compare to giving basekit unbreakable, which would be a significant change.
3: How is it necessary? Like at all?
4: How would being a main to one side disprove certain facts like people would absolutely abuse things?

thanks to old whiners like you, the game doesn't get the changes it deserves, because of this the player base is still stuck in one place and doesn't grow (there is nothing else to do in the game after completing the rift), because the developers know that you won't give them any peace if they introduce something that changes the game, especially when it comes to survivors

Given your escape rate is 40% (the goal value) you're as good as the players you're going against, meaning matchmaking is functioning as intended. Congrats.
Your own post discredits itself. You say most wouldnt use it to lord themselves over others but then admit that you want to put high MMR players on a pedestal and let them have primary say in what suggestions should be considered when it comes to the game. And if your conspiracy theory about BHVR not wanting us to have a voice is true, why bother posting at all. They won't make any changes based on posts you make if you're right.

It doesn't matter if its visible to other players or not, the expectation would be to turn MMR into an opinion validation machine, where you make a statement and back it up with your rng value.
At the end of the day, BHVR can't get the grade system to be representative, but people seem to think MMR is gonna be this perfect measure of skill we can all sit in a circle and let have unilateral weight over what opinions are correct.

Aren't you the person the other day that was talking about how your escape rate is 10-15%? Surely if you're done with the rift you could dedicate some time to creating some feedback pathways for yourself - VOD reviews if you can record games, hell even just writing down something you did well and something to improve upon every match would be something for you to get on with.

Why should I waste my time recording every match? I've completed the rift and the first tome of Chaos Shuffle because I like completing challenges/tomes and getting rewards for them! And yes, I stand by my point that the escape rate is very low as a solo survivor. It would have been better to support OP's post and not continue arguing with us on this thread because most people want to see MMR, a typical killer main who wants the game not to grow...

I'm a survivor main. Official BHVR stats put me at ~66/33 survivor/killer, my own put me at almost exactly 65/35 but in a shorter timeframe.
And my Solo escape rate is 39%, which is barely shy of BHVR's last reported stats showing that solo survivors escape just above 40% of the time. 15%, as I said prior, is a huge outlier.
I disagree with OPs post for reasons I've laid out with others. I'm simply responding to you because there's an obvious cycle of content to push which is personal improvement, hence my suggestion to record matches. But I see now you weren't looking for suggestions on what to spend time pursuing in DBD.

First: "Deserves" and "what you want" are two different things ya know~
Second: That answers absolutely zero of the questions we had. If you really want changes then make a logical argument for them. Not everyone on the forum is a biased loon and we Rulebreakers can atleast be reasoned with (bar a few exceptions), but you need to actually prove to us that whatever changes you want wouldn't backfire.
Third: The devs know that practically anything is going to cause a stir. They buff killers, some survivor will whine and moan, they buff survivor some killer will whine and moan, they add something new someone will whine and moan.
Fourth: something to do is to play the game for fun. Like…we highly doubt your getting paid to play and even if you were you'd probably need to find something to entertain the viewers. Games are suppose to be fun.

First of all, dang. I didn't expect to see fighting going on in this post. And second, BHVR already listens to the top players only. As for people that would want to smurf, they already made a safety net so you can't go from very high mmr to high mmr and etc. The only way they can smurf, is through making a new account.

I agree, they listen to top players who are mostly killer mains, I see more posts here from sweaty killer mains, who deep down just dream that the survivors were nerfed even further. And yes, I agree with the MMRs brackets, since I 100% sit in a high-medium MMR where the chance of escape is terribly low (soloq), because of killers with a strong build and dirty tactics! Those who write that escape rate is 40%, they sit in a low-mid MMR or always play in SWF

They listen to a select group of players we don't know the full identities of, which is their player consultants. Becuase we don't know their full identities we can't make assumptions about who they are - the only one I know specifically of is that Hens was part of the program, but he 50/50s both roles, so Oputeeva claiming its just this inner circle of Killer mains is completely unfounded.
If a player has a 40% winrate, they should be in whatever MMR they were in prior to getting that winrate. If a player is losing the vast majority of their games, they should be losing MMR. So my question is this - how is a 15% winrate player staying in high mmr, exactly?
