Lunar event and Skull Merchant

So Behavior has announced this years lunar new year event and the face of the event this time around is Skull Merchant, at least the promotional art released. Don't get me wrong, the skin does look amazing and the art will always look amazing. Its one of the few things Behavior consistently gets right. However...
Why Skull Merchant?
I know nothing about the art process or how skins are selected to be put into the game, but why gi with a killer that most people don't like? Furthermore, was purposely nerfed into oblivion for the sole sake of making her so weak that she can no longer be an issue?
Okay, maybe I'm just being a downer all on my lonesome, but am I wrong about this?

I honestly don’t know what is their reasoning behind making some Killer cosmetics.
It does not feel like they are trying to increase Killer variety with it, since both popular characters get skins.
It does not feel solely driven by sales either, since they should just release skins for only popular characters, since unpopular characters also get skins.
With Skull Merchant basically having the lowest pick rate, it is questionable as to why they would make a skin for them. Don’t get me wrong, the art team does an amazing job, but with Killer cosmetics it doesn’t feel “clear” as to why some Killers get skins and others don’t.

She had a great skin for it last year and I believe was the face of it. They plan to rework her soon anyways. They haven't forgotten.

But that could be in as little as three whole months, maybe six which is half a year. It would make sense if she received any changes to give incentive to even play her but she didn't.

I get that but at least the skull mommy mains will be happy to see their girl posted up. The fix will be soon.

There is no Lunar New Year event, it's just a cosmetic.
LNY was retired in favour of Blood Moon.2 -
It's called the Lunar New Year collection with a small event to celebrate the year of the snake.

IMO "soon" means in a chapter or two but they said her rework isn't till late 2025, So we still looking at a 6+ month wait.

They also said her rework was priority and that they might be able to get to it sooner than expected.

Oh you mean that Community challenge. Yeah, that's just a minor celebratory event but unfortunately not the full LNY we had until 2023, after which we got Blood Moon.

We can hope it will be soon and they won't screw it like Twins…
She is so bad now, especially because survivors don't get detected on fast vault. That makes her unplayable.1 -
There is so much wrong... 😭
I run bamboozle to somewhat mitigate that issue… but the perma visible scan lines within a limited range is what really kills it for me...
I have a thing for Pig, Myers, Trapper and Hag cause I love the set up into eventual pay off elements of those killers (even if not strong)... and I liked Skully for the same reason. Have a web of drones up, and deliberately take a suboptimal loop path to push them into it...
Skully got everything taken off her... timing her scan line anti loop, her ability to create a web of traps, her speed boosts... everything that made her fun.
She wasn't perfect, I did feel the double scan line at tiles was a bit much of a zoning tool that meant you could lock it down without even using her rotate ability… but this nuke was biblical.
I don't know what BHVR intend to do with her, I don't really care if she's a little weak as my above list of killers shows... I just want her to be able to do something 😩

They are not known for their reworks whether it be a Map or a Killer. So I wouldn't put a lot of faith into. (Not that you have or do.)
They have a lot of other stuff going for them that's for sure! Like the Art Team! Holy Cow the talent!

Yeah, I am just going to stomp survivors with Blight and Oni until they rework her…

I guess you have to change your view of the question. You should not ask why a hated character gets so many cosmetics but rather what players love about this character to buy skins for her. Trickster has a similar phenomenon: Many survivor players don't like/enjoy him but he still gets many cosmetics for the store and is often featured in rifts and special events (was featured in the Mystic tome and Haunted By Daylight). Skull Merchant has a very feminin design with a femme fatal touch. On top of it, her look and lore makes her rude, dominance, and strong. Players love these type of characters and the average player does not care so much about strength and weaknesses - they want to play their beloved character. Trickster is the male version of this stereotype and people love it design wise. Then, both killers also have a very human like design and alongside the mentioned appearance, you have so many opportunities for cosmetics. Dredge has a similar thing: He is a very unique monster in dbd and you can create cosmetics that you couldn't create for other killers. Therefore, he also gets a lot of cosmetics even though he has not the highest pickrate or is the strongest killer in the game.
I like her lunar outfit and it is cool to see her with long hair but I won't buy the skin until I know how her rework will look like. It also makes me a little bit sad that the new Lunar 2025 collection is just this one cosmetic. Would be cool to have more since it is a special event and back then we had more Lunar cosmetic releases. Hopefully, the new Blood Moon Collection will have a lot of different characters.

If Freddy's rework is anything to go by I'm really looking forward to Skull Merchants rework! I've been enjoying playing against him with the mindgames and interactions with his power.

Let's home we will get it faster than Freddy rework…

Now that the changes have settled I think the only thing she needed to lose to make her more bareable was the haste from OTHER survivors who get scanned who arent in chase, I think that's the thing I disliked the most against her.
