An option to disable cosmetics please.

I would love an option that just makes everyone appear as if they are wearing their default cosmetics, though I appreciate the hard work and effort put into all these new cosmetics, some of them are generally getting ridiculous, all these neon bdsm outfits are getting out of hand. I would love an option that just hides cosmetics on my system only, all these silly cosmetics really kill the aesthetic of the game.

People would still see what they buy, I’m saying I want it to show for me only, so I just see characters in their default outfits.

I'll wear my fancy clothes cause I payed for them.

So, when this setting is enabled on my game, I will see all players in their default costumes without them knowing and on their side, they will still see themselves in their custom cosmetics and the custom cosmetics of others in the lobby (unless they too activated the setting)

This would be nostalgic and cool as it would be a throwback to the early days of DBD before the store was introduced. It would be great to have this

If you think certain outfits ruin the aesthetic, there is a lot more that does than just cosmetics, especially since the "aesthetic" itself is a very personal take on what is and is not appropriate.

Yea, if an option like this were introduced, many killer players would stop buying cosmetics. I know I would stop caring.

And it doesn't even affect you. Like, in any way. This take is one of the more blantantly selfish things I've seen on the forums.

If a player DOESNT want to see cosmetics, why do you feel you should mandate it? You bought it. You can see it. Whats the problem? I am really just confused I guess. Please make it make sense.

People on the streets are buying clothes for others to see.
And you see their clothes because they want to show their personality.

It works the same way in games.

People on the streets? Thats the argument?

I dont buy clothes for others to see, I buy them because I enjoy wearing them. If someone came up and said they didn't like your clothes, would you care? I wouldn't. Its my clothes. Its my choice. I bought them. No one buys things to force others to see. Thats kind of ridiculous. Anything else?

Exactly, it wouldn’t interfere with anyone else, it was just be for me eyes only if this setting was enabled.

I think it's important that you shared your opinion on the forums and let your voice be heard.

I am not sure how I would implement and package this idea if I were BHVR through. Everything they do is examined closely.

If this were brought up at a DBD board meeting, I feel like someone at the table would say "We have dealt with enough controversy this quarter. Implement safe changes ONLY." I can already imagine all the content creators complaining about this on YT.

Sounds like a waste of dev time. Characters like James would have Cheryl's voice or Were-Elk would have default hum. License holsers would not approve.

So you're saying that killers buy skins exclusively for themselves, not to be seen by others?

Man, they don't even see their skin in the game, except for their hands.

  • Member Posts: 1,934

So why buy them at all? If its to 'impress' others playing the game, I think you're in for a surprise lol. Killer skins are awesome. But its ridiculous to say 'I bought this, they should have to look at it.'

That's how the market works. No one will buy skins if they are not seen by others.

I'd take that bet. But we'll never have a way to know. So to let this die, Ill say you win and we can move on. Have a good time in the fog! <3

I agree that such an option should exist. Even tho I would say that it is pretty low on the priority-list, but I think this is one of the things that should be implemented for those who want more of the old DBD-ambience. (Another thing would be the removal of voicelines, I hate it that characters are so talkative in the Lobby now…)

But when it comes to cosmetics, I 100% see the reasoning behind this. I dont mind Skins when they get silly, but especially in the new Rift I think that they did a bit too much with the BDSM-Skins.

IMO it would be fine to have an option a la "Basic and Legendary Skins only", which would show either the default models or the legendary skin purchased, since those are completely fine IMO when it comes to the vibes they give.

To compare it to another game I am playing (even tho not active currently) - World of Tanks has an option to only show historic skins. The Devs of that game only introduced 2D- and 3D-Skins pretty late into the game, even tho there is a lot of money you can make. There are some skins which look cool, e.g. some Chinese Tanks have Dragon-features - cool, but not historic. And therefore such an option exist.

And I think having something similar in DBD where you only see the Default Skins and Legendary Skins of Characters should also exist. (even tho I think that the cosmetic department of DBD is great)

How much are you all staring at skins? Sounds like there is projection going on. Majority of the match is just you. And when you are interacting with someone else I doubt you're staring at the skin and focused on the interaction.

When I’m actively chasing and hunting survivors I am very much focused on what I’m chasing and what they look like, even down to what they are holding, chasing Yui with an anime fox tail or bright neon Feng is just lame.

Okay, as a killer main, I will side with you on one condition.

No survivor is EVER allowed to complain about tunneling again. What? Oh, I have my game set to default skins only. So, all you survivors look the same… boring. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
