What are your thoughts on Houndmaster?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask what is community opinion on latest killer before Ghoul comes out soon in just few days.
As for me, I think she is fun and quite strong killer. Her perks are below avarage and situational. Do people still play her? For the past days I can't find match againts her.

I still play her. Im P64. :)

Wow, that's awesome! I just bought her rare winter outfit for shards after just using her prestige default for very long time. I have to say she is pretty fun to play and I wish I see her more in my games (I don't see any).

I have played against HM 95% and played as HM 5%.
I personally do not think resisting the dog’s bite by yourself should take as long as it does. It is a guaranteed hit in the current state. I think it should not be a guaranteed hit. There should be skill expression.-2 -
Shes the first killer on the roster i havent decided to prestige to atleast 3. Ive played her enough times to 100% the achievements and havent tried her since. A problem she had when she first arrived was she was so buggy that the killer players were nearly forced to tunnel in every round to get any results, which went on for a while to a point where everyone kinda started associating her with tunneling or at the very least an "unenjoyable round" even after some of the bugs were fixed. Im surprised she hasnt come out with any cosmetics since november, perhaps the player count is quite low

I really like her. Despite all her initial problems with bugs, she's quickly become one of my favorite killers both to play and play against. I do wish they could improve the search aiming mechanic a bit, it's extremely janky right now and often difficult to lock on to generators. But her chase power is fun and skill shots with the dog can be very satisfying. She also has very good build diversity, there are a lot of perks and builds that are good on her.
As for her own perks, Jagged Compass is good with Gift of Pain/Floods as it makes them trigger on every unhook. All-Shaking Thunder is fun but situational. No Quarter is absolutely terrible though.

She exists, just not in any of my matches.

I like her a lot. The gameplay feels nice to me (when it works lol), her design and lore are interesting to me.
Her perks are situational, yes. Jagged Compass is great but the rest kinda sucks.
Her Ultimate Houndmaster cosmetic is criminally overpriced.

I find her unappealing, her perks and power are underwhelming, and since she was released I've had a single game against her (so I guess almost nobody plays her).
In short, don't like her.3 -
most of the time the dogs actions dont visually fit to that whats happening.

I think she needs a lot of bugfixes and also a fair bit of reining in to make missing with her power a punish. As it stands, she's not really slowed down or held back by using her power poorly, because the devs needed to remove all of that punishment to make the bugs less of a pain. This lack of punishment means all Houndmasters feel identical to one another, there's very little room for skill expression as it stands.
Once they fix the bugs and bring her down to a reasonable level of strength (and reintroduce a good amount of skill expression) though? I'd love to commit some more time to learning her, the release week was a lot of fun learning how to make her power work.

Pretty overrated in terms of strength, even in Solo Q it ain't difficult most of the time to get at least a draw (2 escapes) against her. Also still embarrassingly buggy to this day so not enjoyable to play as for me.

The dogs vault speed needs toned down big time. It feels so bad getting a solid fast vault and it doesn't matter how much distance you get because the dogs vault speed is insane. Not even Finesse is good enough to counter it which is sad.

there’s a counter to the dog vault, running in a straight line isn’t it, they will get you every time doing that.

I main HM or Pirate Mommy as some people have been calling her lately. Very fun kit, pretty fair despite her few remaining bugs and unnecessary nerfs

What?

you can dodge the dog but the answer isn’t running forward after the vault because once the dog vaults it’s only going to go straight at a high speed. You gotta dodge it. You’re trying to beat the dog at the dogs strength. I can like show you in kyf or something.
Edited to say: you can’t do what I’m talking about though without a window or a strong pallet next to a window. Lockers also work if you’re right beside them. I mean like right beside.Post edited by HeroLives on4 -
i know that, im talking about that awkward situation where you vault a pallet and the dog super zooms over the pallet and hits you no matter what you do. There used to be more counterplay to it but now there's hardly any chance to react on the survivor side.

agreed at times it does feel cheap and like there’s no counterplay too it. Just gotta be in the right spot at the right time or pray hitting a 90 degreee works.

Im ngl, shes one of the most forgettable killers. I look at the character select screen and see her and I be like: "oh yeah, youre a thing" and then proceed to not play her.

Genuinely regret not trying her immediately after the bug fixes. I had been under the impression by the community she was awful- which made me upset since it was the only example of a "follower" power in DBD that looked like what I wanted to see. Thankfully they made it to where you get "temporary" auric cells during the PTB to buy and try out killers. I was able to try her after Kaneki, and realized she WAS what I was looking for. She is to knight what Xeno was to dredge IMO. You have slightly less control with the power, but it's still LEAPS AND BOUNDS better in the aspects I wanted the power for. Xeno can get across the map and be a constant presence, Dredge could go anywhere that had a locker- but other than that the power was just worse. Knight can summon different guards, but they don't have the threat and utility as easily available compared to the doggo. Can I go faster as knight following the guards? Sure, but HoundMaster is faster still AND I can stop survivors from booking it EVERY SINGLE TIME I get close with my buddy once they recover from taking me across the map.
As for the perks? The scourge hook one is my most preferred- It's ALSO the exact perk I'd been hoping would be added for years until she came out. The fall to lunge perk is situational in a good way- it's more potent than the more generally useful perk to make up for the situational nature. Seriously- I would only prefer COUP DE GRASP if there were literally NO drop offs nearby. Otherwise I could make a minor detour to get a guaranteed hit. Her anti-heal is the only one I am unsure of, since I haven't used it in an anti heal skill check build. However, making survivors broken mid heal is POWERFUL- even if they don't have hemorrhage.
Overall? My favorite chapter, even the survivor was neat in concept and execution when I normally don't even look twice at the survivor side of content updates.

SHE IS THE NEW SKULLMERCHANT THE WAY EVERYONE PLAYS HER ALONG HOW EFFORTLESS IT IS TO GET DOWN AND HIT SEEMS WAY OVERTUNED AND THE DONlG LINGERS FOR TOO LONG WHEN SHE SET THE DOG OUT IT JUST A BODY BLOCKING BOT THAT CAN HOLD YOU IF THE ANIMATION get THREW AND DONT HIT ANYONE IT STILL STAYS FOR 2 SCONDS IN SAME LOCATION AND CAN STILL MAGICALLY GET THE GRAB

I agree, I dont see her often. I think its because of some of her bugs. Bhvr has a list of stuff their working on and I am sure she is included. I want more outfits for her!!! lol

I think there is plenty of Skill expression with her. Given that you have only played maybe 5%of her it makes sense that you wouldnt see that through her perspective. You have to basically do geometry to land your bites with the dog half the time, not to mention work around her bugs which takes more skill and unnecessary energy.
Bites aren't free.
Counters;
- Camp Pallet. Stun dog.
- Fake snug at windows/vaults.
- Snug bites, throw pallet. Stun Snug
- Snug Bites, Survivor releases Snug for you.
- Snug bites, fall off ledge, snug lets you go.
Plenty of counters and skill expression.

I don’t play her because of how janky and buggy she still feels. On the survivor end tho when playing against her she feels either like a cake walk and free 4 out or stupidly overtuned. The counterplay to wait under a pallet and let the dog bite you so you can stun the dog and potentially HM too seems boring and not much skill expression. The vault speed feels very irritating on survivor end since you can be 75-90% done with the vault animation and you’ll still get hit or grabbed on the other side of the pallet. She’s just another animation lock killers like huntress, slinger, PH where you cannot give them Los of you doing an animation because you’ll get hit 95% of the time. Overall she’s a bit meh, I would suggest doing a massive bugfix for her and then tone down the dog’s vault speed to maybe 0.65-0.7 seconds instead of the current 0.45 seconds and the 0.9 on release.

She is quite buggy, what kills her experience. Aside from this, i really like her.

That's how it should be. The skill expression is the dog has a very narrow hit box when being sent out just like any other projectile. After Snug bites you your options are very limited. Killers don't need unnecessary counter play.

Over buffed and annoying now. The dog holding you for decades is stupid. She can literally spend time to break a pallet and still catch up and hit you. She is pretty much just pinhead 2.0 but better.

she needs number nerfs on her cooldowns and a bit of bugfixes, then she will be fine

I’ll let you know once she’s out of beta

She grew on me pretty quick. Liked it better when she was mega busted and could send the dog flying thru 2 story windows via ground level. Welcome addition in my eyes unlike some killers in recent years… I hope that we get more skins like ultimate houndmaster that alter snug's breed (or his look in general) I just hope they are truly worth the price.

Overall, a good character that is nearly perfect: she still has some annoying bugs that need to be fixed so she feels smooth to play. The search command is also really annyoing because it takes ages until you can pin something - wish there was a little bit more autoaim. Some of her addons also need either a rework or buff.
She is also strong but for the wrong reasons: the cooldown is really short and leads into the issue that survivors cannot hear the attack sound because she still drops a voice line. Her cooldown is in general really short and need a nerf to 7 seconds. The dog vaulting speed is also kinda too much and need a little nerf. It kinda reminds me of old Chucky where you either drop the pallet and gets hit or you don't drop the pallet and gets hit. I don't wanna have big nerf but just some little tweaks to make her more fair to face against.
What really surprises me is that she has such a low killrate according to nightlightgg - she is around the top ten of lowest killrate despite being so strong, easy to understand (but difficult to master), and having built-in map mobility and finding tools and the little advantage that survivors still don't understand the dog 100%.

Id argue that All Shaking Thunder, while very situational, is her best perk by a country mile
-1 -
I would not go that far. She is nothing like Chess Merchant.
Also, a good tip: Don't write in all-caps.2
