Netcoding overhaul and optimization and much more in future patch 10.0.0
I would really like it if, at a possible milestone like patch 10.0.0, you guys at Behaviour took the opportunity to make a mega patch focused more on the technical side of the game.
suggestions:
- Performance Improvements and Optimization
Map Optimization: Some maps, such as the Lery’s Memorial Institute, are known to impact performance. suggest reviewing these maps to reduce the graphical load, such as simplifying unnecessary details or using more efficient rendering techniques, ensuring a stable frame rate for all players.
(I always experience stuttering on this map, i5 11400f, 16gb ram, rx 6600, regardless of graphics quality, the menu still has micro stuttering issues that haven't been resolved in years.). - Engine update (again): starting with patch 7.7.0 you updated from Unreal 4 to Unreal 5.2, however this version has optimization problems that are no longer present in Unreal Engine 5.4 and 5.5.
(in addition, this would give you access to a more optimized engine, newer plugins, and better tools to improve the game) - Latency Reduction: Implementing more robust dedicated servers to minimize latency and synchronization issues between clients and servers. This would be especially useful in regions with a large number of players, improving the fluidity of multiplayer matches.
(Implementing a system that would pair players with similar pings would also be interesting) - Collision, physics and user interface: Improving the collision detection algorithms would make the gameplay more consistent, giving players a READY message wheel like (make generator, the killer is gone, the killer is with me, heal me, this will help the solo survivor)
(an example is Bubba himself who has a very strange collision with his saw) - Bloodweb update exchange addons of different rarities for higher or lower ones
(for example, if I play Billy and want more of the purple boot and less of the green addon that reduces stun, I would exchange an X amount of green addon for a Y amount of purple addon). In this case, for me to exchange simpler addons for rarer addons, I would have to have a larger quantity in the exchange, and if it were the opposite, exchanging a red addon for a yellow one, the quantity would be much smaller).

You ask optimization, and some want 4k textures so that the game takes up 150+ gigabytes on the ssd. You ask for simpler textures, and some want to bring back fog and grass. If I were the dev, I would be confused

I think they would look at that list and be like "Can't with this code, we've tried... "

but resolution has to do with rendering, not encoding.

We can easily say optimize this optimize that, but at this point I don't even understand the exact problems

I am by no means an expert, but from what we've been told there's a serious resource bottlenecking problem that is apparently insurmountable.
It's why they had to cut way back on fog and swaying grass and element effects. It's why they couldn't get the game to run at a steady 60fps on the prior gen consoles (and many lower-end PC's) despite those machines being capable of doing so. It's why even very strong PC's notice immense usage while running this game, and a PS4 sounds like a prop airplane taking off.

The thing is that the game was made in Unreal 4 and simply adapted to 5, that's why it has micro sturrerings where it shouldn't have.

The issue is not reducing the game's graphics, but rather reducing things that don't need to be ''beautiful'', there are maps that are more optimized than others, it's not just about size.

you don't need to be an expert to understand that the ps4 console was released in 2012 with really outdated hardware inside. look at the components of the same year of release. dbd was released in 2016 and took up only 3.5 gb on the hdd. cyberpunk by the way also tried to optimize the game for ps4, it turned out badly and dlc was eventually only available for ps5.

have you tried to enter the command -dx 11 in the launch parameters? they say it helps if you have problems with dx12

And yet my Xbox or those PS4 machines can run a far more demanding game like Red Dead 2 just fine....

Yeah this game needs a lot of love in the netcode/networking side of things, it'd really help how the game feels.

yes I tried, I didn't see any noticeable difference

but rdr 2 first came out on console and then it was ported to pc. rdr 2 version on ps4 and on pc are two different versions, on pc is much more demanding version of this game. dbd was ported from steam to all other platforms, it was optimized so that it would work on ps4 at all.
