Chest improvements
Chests
- 4-6 chests spawn outside of the basement per trial without offerings.
- Chests can be opened faster.
Basement spawns….
- …2 chests with at least blue or better items and those items have 2 addons on them.
- …a safe which requires you to find a special key on the map. This key can be found at a corpse, which spawns at a random location (like on nostromo).
Items from chests changes 🔦
- You can find up to 2 addons on items from chests with a certain chance. Rarer addons have a lower chance. You can still be unlucky and get no addons on items from chests or only get one.
- You keep your addons upon escaping.
QOL for killers whose power relies on chest locations 📺
- Sadako‘s TVs, Plagues fountains and xeno‘s Control stations spawn before chests and take priority.
Luck affects chests 🍀
- Influences/increases the rarity of addons/items you get from chests and the chance for getting multiple addons.
Thanks for reading!

I agree mostly.
More chests and better loot in chests is a thing that should've happened years ago.
I had a very similar idea with the safe in basement, only with the difference that it was tied to a new Map add-on.
Luck affecting Chests would be nice.
I also really agree that killer props, especially TVs, Fountains and Control Stations should get priority.

Thanks for commenting my friend.
Out of curiosity, how did your idea work with the map addon?

I'd love more chests in 1v4, and killers would have more incentive to run human greed perk builds too (Chest aura reading). I love the survival horror part of DBD and survival horror's main mechanics is item management and scavenging. Please consider this <3

Maybe people even start running hoarder or other chests perks.

Agree with everything here. When chest opening time was decreased from 10 to 8 seconds, I was shocked by how bad it still felt. Chests are still by far a wasteful detriment of a survivor's time, and bring chest related perks is just making you a weak link to the team. Why bother with chests and their perks if you can bring the strongest item and addon combo every game WITH 4 meta perks?
With your changes suggested, this will still be an issue, but its a much bigger step in the right direction than just barely reducing the chest opening time. Personally, I think they should take the same amount of time to open as RE chest, about 4 seconds max.

I don't agree with this although it would be fun for survivors but this would give them too many tools during a trial in addition to the items they already bring, if you are to add more chests the chest opening speed should be slower, NOT faster for balance. Opening chests for a higher rarity item should bring some risk of being found, otherwise why not just have the items sprinkled randomly on the ground at that point.
Sadly I don't think fixing sadako's and Xeno's control/tv spawns is high on BHVRs list and in particular these changes would be atrocious for these killers as it's a known issue that during some events these killers get affected the hardest by having less spawns, and there has been little to no effort made to either confirm this issue much less fix it.

You say it. It takes still so ######### long to open chests. I would probably make them 6 seconds, because 4 feels kinda fast.

Survivors opening chests and wasting their time is always beneficial to the killer, because they aren‘t on gens. However items in chests have to be worth opening them, which currently isn’t the case. More often than not you get a green key or a grey toolbox, that are worthless (especially without addons).
Chests are a healthy way to slowdown gens if they were better. This is why I don’t think chests need any downsides.
Aside from that if they buff chests a lot more perks become more worth it on both sides. Survivors/killers might be more inclined to running chest perks when they are a bigger part of the gameplay loop, which benefits both sides and increases variety in matches.

Kind of like this:
Safe Combination (Very Rare):
• Changes one of the Basement Lockers into a Safe.
• The Map automatically tracks the Safe at the start of the match.
• While holding the Map, you can unlock the Safe, which will grant you extra Bloodpoints and contains a Herb.1 -
I would like that, but behavior would probably not give us more shards for free.

Chests wasting survivors time only works if chest opening time is kept as it is or in the case of introducing more chests per trial, reducing opening speed, only then would it be beneficial to killers.
Keys and other items are going to be reworked soon so this alone will increase the usefulness of the items received when opening chests in the future. As for getting a brown toolbox, that is part of the gamble of taking the time to open a chest, you make the choice to either invest in putting progression into a gen, taking the killer on chases, or opening a chest which might yield you a lower tier item, that's just part of the risk you take, giving survivors top-tier items on a silver platter is not going to help balance at all.

when i play survivor i really don't want people wasting time on chest so i really don't want this to happen. nothing you find except possibly a flashlight that you save with is actually going to be worth it. tool box: the time you take getting it does not replace the time you could have been on a gen. medkit: healing is normally a waste of time anyway. gens gens gens. keys: umm. no. just no. i'm not saying their aren't exceptions to the rule. there are of course. but by and large chests are just a waste of time so adding more makes the killer side of me extremely happy. yes, go little survivors. open the chests and waste your time while i down your friends and no gen progress gets made. but the survivor side of me begs them not to do this.

Well, just as a thought experiment, how would the balance be affected if the chest opening was literally instant (Just the chest opening animation)? To me, its no different than starting the match with the best combo item and addons that you want. The chest item is random, has no addons, so no guarantee you get something useful. And to reiterate my point earlier, bringing chest perks to make these items better just takes the slots of potentially game changing meta perks, ie exhaustion to extend a chase just long enough for a gen to pop, anti-tunnel perks to avoid an early death.
I really think you could giga buff chests and it would affect nothing with the balance, just make survivor matches more interesting. Theres nothing in the chests that will be stronger than items a team can bring themselves for free, useable at the start of the match.

You are probably right, but I think slowing survivors down a little bit for opening chests is good for gen speeds and the game. They just need to make opening chests finally worth it.
1 -
That‘s a funny way to see, but on the other side they already do this so this would probably just lessen the frustrations you might get, because their items from chests might have a bigger impact in the positive way.

Having chest opening speed at 6 seconds for example would still be a long time for opening them and very much beneficial to the killer. With 2 basement chests + 6 normal chests and 6 seconds opening time, you get 48 seconds slowdown. Currently you get with 3 chests and 8 seconds opening time 24 seconds.
If they just increase the amount of chest on maps without any changes people would ignore them, because items from chests aren‘t worth it and opening chests is a waste of time. If you want slower gens, survivors should get something in return.

I disagree, medkits help me heal others faster or save myself when no one else can, toolboxes can let me break a hook nearby my while I work on a gen/make a gens last part of progress go faster if pain res or I feel regression is coming. Maps and Keys are going to be really useful soon too and then there is the new survivor item that's coming.
I get loads of value out of 2v8's chests for example, the main issue is keys and maps rn.
So please add more chests, naysayers don't care for the survival horror aspect of this game, I'd love more item management and ways to adapt gameplay mid match.2 -
of course we don't care about teh survival horror aspect of the game. this isn't a survival horror game anymore except in the vaguest descriptions. this is a 4v1 competitive multiplayer game. the survival horror part is over inside the first 100 hours or so.

It is still a survival horror game, it's just that part of it needs help… hense the item reworks and chests need more help too.
Not to mention weaker killers need buffed and the S-Tiers nerfed, then everything will be in a healthier spot overall, items SHOULD be useful, just a lot of killers make them not so impactful.0 -
I never said anything about slower gen speeds. The fact is increasing chest opening speeds is not beneficial to the killer since survivors would have access to time-saving items such as better med-kits, toolboxes, and flashlights,.
As I have already explained opening chests currently and moving forward should carry risk with it and a possibility of losing time, gambling that the survivor might gain a time-saving item, this should not happen risk-free for the survivor. Giving survivors even more items for speedy heals, speedy gen repair speed and hook/pick up denial with no buffs to the killer side is NOT beneficial to killers no matter how you try to spin it, end of story.
