Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Both sides rely on their meta/popular genre perks too much. How is this fun and why?

Whenever I play both sides, at least 80% of the builds are the same genre perks.

Killer: braindeadly running 3~4 slowdowns
Survivors: Exaustion perks, second chance perks and Windows of opportunity.

Doing these doesn't guarante a escape/kills but they still run the same thing like a door swinging back and forth.
I have played using meta perks when I started playing this game for the first time, but soon after the current rank system got released and I stopped that style and the game felt more fun no matter the outcome.

Genuine question, how is running/going up against the same/similar perks every single game fun or healthy? I get it that everyone has their own taste how to enjoy the game, but doesn’t that make the gameplay experience boring?

because the game is designed around perks and not the other way around.

if that was different, the perks would have to be way less impactful and it's not le fun.

if current meta perks werent necessary, we'd also have to deal with much more miserable meta instead because the reliance on anti tunnel/slug/camp and slowdown perks gatekeeps people from stacking way less healthy, fair or fun perks as they will be on the receiving end of aforementioned strategies or unbalanced gen speeds.

but at this point with how BHVR design the game you can disregard what I said, that only applies to the previous generation of band aids. right now we're just going to be on the receiving end of "not relying on stale meta"

This phenomenon is not unique to Dbd. Every game has a meta and the majority of the playerbases will use it. I

Take a seemingly simple game like Clash Royale. Bunch of cards to choose from yet you’ll go against the same 3 decks at least 90% of the time. People, unfortunately, don’t want to just play, they want to win, so rather than just having fun, they’re gonna google the best build for any game they’re playing.

Would be nice to have the devs buff other perks and make them more viable but that’s easier said than done.

Well friend, DBD will always have a meta. Mostly it is a matter of how fun each meta is. The current one is definitely getting stale.

Don't know about meta. I'm constantly running this build and my average kill rate is 3. You don't need meta to kill

Watch someone play Mario Kart and see everyone driving a Baby Blooper. Metas happen everywhere as long as people are competitive enough.

Cause we have content creators saying what's good and what's bad… plus our own experience

Cause we may play with other builds but those games end so fast (for both sides)

Because they want to win. Meta perks are meta because they're generally the best perks/help the most people win.

The game was built on a player using perks, so it's natural that the playerbase would form some sort of meta. That's how most multiplayer game work, players will use the most optimized/strongest builds.

Do these listed perks guarantee a victory? No, not really. I've beaten many killers with 3~4 slowdown or survivor teams with multipile deadhard, ds, unbreakable etc. But these perks make life easier so they will be popular.

Personally I am surprised you even complain about survivor builds. I see a good variety in my games, from healing builds to chase builds to gen oriented builds. The killer meta is now the problem but it's more of a "Behaviour keeps nerfing any interesting perk that's not slowdown" kinda deal, rip Unbound and STBFL.

Yeah it's pretty boring when you get to the leaderboards and see the same perks on repeat. I desperately want a perk free mode as an event. I'd love to see how people do without their crutches.

Its kinda helpful for new players. They only need to learn a few perks instead of an impossible amount.

I used butcher and STBFL but they got nerfed so i stop, I used unbound with legion and wesker but they nerfed it and now I take antigen perks instead, now they nerf franklin and I won't take it
Try buffing non meta perks or at least not nerfing them

Can't say ive ever used the meta myself, im experimenting with weird builds every other round, or i keep every survivor with just their 3 perks and 1 other that works well with them. For example rebeccas 3 perks + stakeout, dwights 3 perks + bottony knowledge, aestrie's 3 perks + prove thyself etc. Makes each survivor feel like a unique character just like the killers.

    • In any game there is a META, I don't understand why in other games it's "normal", but in DBD it's considered a flaw. For me the real problem is that some perks are more useful than others. Why should I, as a killer, use "hoarder" when "pain res" exists? Why, as a survivor, should I "better than new" instead of "we'll make it"? In fact, I consider killer perks (in general) better than survivor perks. Too many survivor perks are either situational or mediocre. In survivor (with a few exceptions), perks have been practically the same for years.

I’ve been running Dwight’s perks + overcome. Or light footed- , light weight , lucky break and bond. I’ve been playing with @THE_Crazy_Hyena who runs wiretap, calm spirit and blast mine. & @For_The_People who runs plot twist, exponential, and for the people lol. We’ve been getting a lot of killers running endgame or hex builds. Weird builds are so much more fun.

Because MMR exists. If you've been running meta builds, and suddenly you decide to try meme builds, you'll lose HARD because your opponent is definitely using meta perks at your MMR.

Welcome to online gaming and the Internet.

It has been the norm to establish a "what's the best/strongest" way to play any game since the Internet gave way to world wide communication and brain storming.

I've gone past the point of caring all that much if I win or lose anymore, so I mostly run the perks I like or a silly meme build. Don't think I could keep playing this game otherwise.

I've come to the conclusion that there are far too many frustrating things about the way this game has been designed to take it seriously from a competitive stand point. Plus, I don't have the inclination to go digging into YouTube tutorials to try and really get better at the game. Of course I still try my best and I do run some meta perks as Survivor, just so I'm not a total liability to the team. I totally get why Survivors would run two anti tunnel perks as tunnelling is rife, but it's not something I often do myself because I hate being pushed into running specific perks because of the way other people play.

As Killer, I think most slowdown perks are exceptionally dull to play with (I tend to prefer a mix of fun perks and comfort perks whenever I play Killer). But I do run at least one on most of my Killers (except Billy) because the game is designed around some degree of gen slowdown and you can't realistically avoid it.

A substantial portion of the player base do seem to get much of their fun from going on win streaks and the like, so I guess winning is a big part of the enjoyment for them and meta perks obviously help you to win.

I have my favourite bushes and corners of most maps to plot twist on!

Except those awkward moments where the killer aura perks give me way immediately lol although I have been caught and given free passes from killers on occasions 🤣

Also the Lisa triplet sisters match was crazy lol think I got value from all my perks within a short window!

You and @THE_Crazy_Hyena are fantastic all rounders! No matter which perks you use you can make them give value!
