Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

I love the initiative of quality of life changes, but I strongly believe something that is being overlooked are the servers.

Currently in the America's, the lack of servers feels like a detriment to the game. There are no central servers (Texas, Mexico) and horrible server density in SA. Speaking from experience, about 1/3 games, I experience killers and survivors have 80+ ping playing on NA-East, this does not account for NA-West.

Why is this important? Ping alters the way you play the game. For killer, being validated feels terrible. In a game where time is so important, a quick down can make the difference between a generator popping or not. For survivor, its completely game changing. Based on ping, you are forced to play all tiles differently. It alters windows for vaulting and dropping pallets, resulting in hits you wouldn't experience against killers with lower ping.

Being punished due to circumstances that are out of your control feels terrible, and is extremely demotivating. Ping is a crucial part of Dead by Daylight, and is part of EVERY game.

Please look into adding more servers that are spread out across the America's.

Current Servers:
USA, Virginia (Online)
USA, Ohio (Offline)
USA, California (Online)
USA, Oregon (Online)
Brazil, Sao Paulo (Online)
Canada, Montreal (Offline)

Online Servers:
Canada: 0
West NA Servers: 2
East NA Servers: 1
South America: 1

4 servers for a combined population of: 1.09 billion people (Not everyone plays dbd but you get my point)

(please be aware, I am a survivor main, so i am not able to represent how terrible bad ping feels for both sides accurately. Please feel free to add your experience/comments below)

Do they not use AWS? They're restricted by that and there aren't any more data centres in the USA as far as i'm aware. So ask Amazon not the devs lol. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong lol

I really don't think they have the player base to fully utilize the servers because of MMR AND BHVR's push for fast queue times.

I miss the days of peer to peer 30 ping connections though. I'd be happy enough if I can choose my server location and lock into it as well as check opponent ping. I'd be willing to wait for that. Although I'm guessing there are people way out in the boonies that would hardly get to play at all because nobody wants to play against high ping.. That wouldn't be my problem, but currently it is. :D

I believe you are correct on the fact they use AWS, that being said, they have other options. I know it is outlandish to expect them to change server hosts (and I don’t), but if there are other providers that offer more flexibility, I think it is something that could potentially be considered.

I think the player base is fine honestly, also that doesn’t mean you can exclusively play on one server. When Ohio is enabled, I find myself bouncing between the two servers. That being said, I think CSGO has a great option where players can set a maximum ping limit. Of course this would mean longer queue times for people with harsher options, but it would also prevent people from getting killers/survivors, who have ping above a certain point. That or behavior lets you select the servers you want to play on, similar to games like Apex Legends or Valorant.

I would say the player base would be fine for additional servers IF there is no MMR restriction. I only play SWF these days. We go against some good competition, but going into the off-hours, we get the greenest 150 ping killers from Japan or the midwest so we have to restrict our loadouts just to be fair. Still, a lot of them eventually just go AFK or they open up the exit gate and swing for us to leave. It's like this every night. Prime time is not usually a problem, which leads me to believe that BHVR eases up on matchmaking restrictions to allow for fast queue times.. because we get games pretty quick regardless of hour. I just don't think it would be fair, nor fun if we get a nearby server but go against new players. I would be willing to wait, but I don't know how long would be a good balance, because my team usually only plays for a couple hours, then we move on to something else.

If I still played solo or duo, I would probably agree with you. I miss low ping and being able to time pallet hits against a Billy or greed for some extra time because I know I'll make a vault. It's not worth the chance to do that if you're 60+ these days.

true. i feel bad for newer players, all the inconsistencies ping can bring must make it hard to play/learn the game as well

I am just happy to play the game after moving to other country for study. The only way to improve my ms is literally getting degree oversea.

Central Asia is hidden land for BHVR servers, even reaching Frankfurt is painful deal

Yeah I unfortunately dont know what the situation is like over seas. But in my opinion, if AWS doesnt offer the servers needed to play the game, they should switch provider. I know it that black/white but its something that should be looked into imo

I mean, twitch is also related to AWS and it’s fine in my country. I assume BHVR just don’t expand their servers. Other problem is Russian Federation and Middle East. It’s really meaningful for creating servers there, but AWS don’t really like countries there or limited by sanctions

America is not even the worst case.

There are 0 servers in the South Africa (not sure if even in all of Africa), and people have horrible ping there.

Similar issues are around the Middle East.

Echoing this. Shout-out to my friends in South-Africa, who have to deal with 150ms+ regularly.

I would honestly love to see servers for Russia and Asia.

I also believe this will help many people from both sides of the issue.

Dont blame you. Ive about had enough of getting brazil players on NA East considering they have their own server, but bhvr would rather give us 140 ping games

I think the issue with setting up servers in some parts of Asia and in Russia is that Russia afaik, requires all games that have in-game VOIP to be able to record the voice communications.
And because DBD has no in-game VOIP system, they run into an odd conudrum.
But that is just a loose hypothesis and I may not entirely have all my information correct.
I think this applies to countries like China as well.

But outside that, my only other theory for Russian not getting its own servers is potential inter-country politics and the vast landscape that is Russia.

    Honestly, who knows?
I wish BHVR would give some more information on why despite the explosion of popularity of the game in places like Russia the past handful of years, they have not gotten their own servers.

Yes, more servers, a higher tick rate, and, most of all, Server-Side Hit Authority! I am tired of the high-latency killers having an advantage in every match. Move the hits to the server.

every game on east coast has been 100 ping lately. why are we getting brazil players on the east server. they have a brazil server

    Seems even worse now.

I know I am one of the lucky few who gets to have a constant 30-40ms ping, but I agree everyone should have the opportunity to play with good latency.

A lot of killers have their entire power determined by ping. Nemesis' whip comes out slower the higher your ping is, Blight's bump will change position the higher or lower your ping is, and so on. If they're not going to make killer powers play better on high ping, they may as well focus in giving everyone the best experience that they can with the servers.

They seem to have servers for the Middle East and Africa

As for Russia, it's possible that they'll completely cut themselves off from the global internet. They currently have an internal policy of blocking everything they can. For example, YouTube doesn't work in Russia, and there are already problems logging into the game, without certain programs

I know servers are needed more elsewhere in the world, but my god, I would kill for a single US central server.
