Would Insidious Chucky be genuinely gamebreaking?
So after a few hundred hours on killer, I've learned something that made me genuinely sad. I thought Chucky's laugh was tied to his Hidey-Ho mode, but it's actually tied to any instance of undetectable. (I know, took me a while to catch up).
I can see the logic behind it. He's small and has third-person camera, meaning he'd be next to impossible to see before it's too late. He can position himself in places other killers can't and still see what he's guarding/approaching.
But insidious is generally a bit of a meme perk, right? You sacrifice so much pressure just to catch a survivor off guard once, and generally the more you employ it, the less you get out of it as survivors start checking angles like they're in CSGO.
I just wanna be funny jumpscare gremlin but Chucky can't stop looking at memes on his phone when we're supposed to be stealthy.
PS: I learned this the hard way trying to bring Insidious Chucky into a game and getting humbled in the first three minutes.

I think it's mainly due to Chucky having audio cues, that's not something that can be muffled over. Similar to the other killer sounds in the game.
If anything, I'd argue Chucky with Insidious is kinda like playing Plague with Insidious.
It would make me chuckle at least, but I think the audio cues are given so that survivors can react - remember Chucky is third person and is very small. I can imagine a Chucky that makes zero auditory noise as quite infuriating to deal with and putting that into his kit would be an odd choice.

I'm honestly okay with his audio cues being present for other sources of undetectable. And realistically wouldn't expect a hard coded exception for one relatively niche perk.
Just hypothetically, Insidious in isolation, would that be too much?

It would have to be tested and sadly I cannot be in that level of testing due to being on console. I'm just saying if anything it'll put Chucky in situations where he gets easy hits, grabs off gens, etc.
You could argue that a survivor should constantly move their camera around to prevent this, but at the same time does Chucky really need it?
This is the true question.

I don't think he needs it for balance or anything like that. It's purely a discussion for the hypothetical. Other killers have sounds too when undetectable but Chucky's is notable in that he has a separate sound specifically to prevent stealth Chucky.
Say we put Insidious Chucky next to a crouching Pig. If they're both camping for a gen grab, Chucky has visuals and is smaller, but Pig is silent and can aura read with the iri. I feel it nets the same effect, but isn't a dominant or even common strategy because of the opportunity cost of essentially going AFK.

I mean, even Wraith has snarling sounds when he's in cloak form so I don't see the point? Same thing for Ghostface, same thing for Myers (sorta due to how tall and noticeable he is so I'll toss him in).
The only one I think doesn't apply is Skull Merchant, but I mean she's been nerfed and I've always thought Skull Merchant did not need to be a haste+stealth killer.
Each stealth killer has an indicator to know they're around you, Chucky isn't any different.
Thank you for mentioning Pig, even Pig you can tell too. All the stealth killers minus Skull Merchant (that I am aware of) have noticeable signs when they are around you.
Edit: also do not compare Pig to Chucky, one is much more noticeably smaller and can easily abuse this mechanic if implemented.

Yep, and I would agree they are necessary for fair play too. I think Chucky getting a unique sound when stealthed shows design intent by BHVR which I find interesting. Other stealth killers tend to keep their sounds regardless of undetectable, Chucky actively gains new sounds.
I wanna clarify this isn't a true balance discussion nor me lamenting Chucky as weak. I don't think he's particularly great but I do fine with him. I'm asking more, if Insidious specifically didn't trigger giggle mode, would it be oppressive? I don't think so, personally.
The only thing I'm lamenting is the loss of prospective meme plays.

Think about this:
A Chucky can sit in a bush and the survivors would never know he's there.
A survivor can be working on a gen and have the Chucky immediately wrap around and grab them off the gen.
There is a reason why Chucky has auditory sounds, I mean he's like 1-2 feet tall and can see in third person, lmfao.

I suppose bushes should be considered. I was more thinking walls/rocks, which would obscure other stealth killers just as much, which was the (admittedly poorly explained) thinking behind the Pig comparison. There are some gens where this can legitimately work, but it'd only work once per game against clever survivors.
Adding bushes to the mix does complicate stuff, as some maps would basically turn into a minefield of potential Chucky ambushes.
Now, not going to lie, a game like that would be hilarious, but I could see the balance problems, and I think the joke would wear thin from a survivor perspective.
I'd argue it's not overpowered strictly from a win-condition perspective. Sitting still in a bush waiting for an opportunity to grab or get a free hit would be significantly less efficient than just playing a regular game. Survivors would still be more vigilant once they know the game and any time you are waiting, they'll be off doing a different gen getting oodles of free progress.
That being said, I could also sympathise that it wouldn't be very fun to come across frequently, because even though you'd be more likely to win, when you do get grabbed/hit it'd feel quite cheap.0 -
Insidious is meme long forgoten and chucky even when his kit has some stealth and he is small easily hidden makes lot of noices that can point him out so staying inside bush that smilles and chuckles sometimes isnt working on someone who isnt deaf.

Insidious is actually a permanent fixture in my Chucky build and I'm usually able to get some decent value out of it. The other day I played a game on Midwich and hid just around the corner of that gen in the room near to the bottom of the stairs (the one that pretty much always spawns) and I was able to catch an injured Survivor out who was returning to finish it. I hope it gave them a scare because it certainly gave me a chuckle. In my experience, it honestly doesn't make a difference if he's stood there sniggering away to himself or not because by the time a Survivor realises you're there it's already too late.
Then again, I'm not playing seriously so my Chucky is probably not in top MMR, so I can afford to waste some time hiding out in bushes and around corners for a laugh. I don't care at all about winning or losing with Chucky.

Chucky has anti synergy with undetectable so that means if you want to be sneaky you should be looking at terror radius reductions. he has a couple addons for that. it's been many months since I dabbled in it(before the monitor nerfs) but chuckys terror radius could go as low as like 8 or 12, always mix him up with Dracula

i hadn't thought about messing with his TR. This might get me what I want, thanks. I'm not looking for an oppressive build or anything, I just wanna have survivors deal with sudden goblin mode out of nowhere when I'm the Chuckster. Knowing I won the psychological war, even if I only get a 1k, is a personal win.

See when I tried an Insidious play I hung around getting ready to scare them off a middle map gen, only for a masked meg to crouch wall around the corner and pat my head.
She knew what I was up to

Honestly, a moment like that would make me laugh, so I'd call that a win in my book. But yeah, it's not going to work on everyone. You kind of have to accept that it will be a wasted perk slot more often than not.

Oh, it was certainly worth it for the moment, but part of me wishes I gave her a spook first.
I'm going to try a small TR build next, methinks.0 -
I assume every match will be 4 man swf on comms (not true) but having that expectation helps manage expectations for me. in my case with chuck, I found at the very least it helps manage the amount of pre running a little bit. I had tested his range before the monitor changes and Chuck could basically be at the other end of Eyrie shack and you wouldn't know.
the slower charge on the dash wasn't as big of a deal as I had seen it made out to be(the pillow I think?)
the nice thing about TR Chuck is that survivors are conditioned to be on guard when Chuck goes into hidey ho mode so delaying your power usage until yourw right on top of somebody can throw people off since not many Chuck's do that
I might have to dust this build off myself for a round. maybe I'll try it with Deerstalker just to make sure nobody sees me coming

Taking notes…
I'm only just starting to branch out into stranger builds for killer. Still very milquetoast on survivor though. Considering the effects of things etc. so this is actually super helpful, thanks!0 -
no problem:) creating builds is honestly half the reason I play. if you end up enjoying the play style you could take a look at Dracula too he had a similar deal with his wolf addons (i ended up dabbling in terror radius chuck because i played a lot of wolf only dracula in events)
