Disconnecting on Console
Recently, as I've been climbing into the red ranks, I have noticed a lot of people disconnecting in the loading screen on console. Apparently, it's called "dashboarding" where they go to their console dashboard during the loading screen and close the application.
They only do this when the Killer brings an offering, such as: Survivor Pudding, any other BP offering that isn't BNP or a cake and ANY secret offering. I can screenshot some messages where they clearly state they will never be punished for it because, "We don't disconnect enough to alert the system and they don't care about console." I've had plenty of arguments with these people and I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences or if anyone can confirm what they are saying. Thanks!

They're silly to think that they won't get caught, the system is automatic and does not care which platform they are on. We have a new system on the way that'll launch sometime after dedicated servers that'll allow us to be more strict with people who disconnect. For more info, I would suggest checking out the last dev update.

Well it is very good to hear that you guys are working on a system to prevent this! I'm sure I speak for a lot of people as cannot wait for that to arrive! I just wasn't sure as they are usually 4-man groups and they rotate who quits to avoid the current system. I'd ask them more questions but they usually block you if you call them out on it :(
Edit: I realized I have a few of them recorded on stream doing it, rip.

I'm super excited for the new system. Instant "cooldowns" for every DC are going to be really nice. If you don't want to play the game, the devs will make it real easy for you soon.
6 -
I think most of us are looking forward to it!
4 -
i really hate the new system where the whole entire match is cancelled if just one person disconnects during match making :((( It's unfair considering how the wait time for finding lobbies usually is longer, at least in my experience
0 -
For me as a killer player, it takes 10-15 minutes to get to the point where people can even join. That is ridiculous.
3 -
I know people that dashboard when they see secret offerings (which is almost always a mori).
Thing is, there are players that specifically target and hunt down other players. They bring mori's every game they see them (sometimes even scumming lobbies to get them in their game), then mori spam them until they bleed out or DC. So I honestly don't blame some people for doing it.
4 -
Disconnecting is still punishable by ban. I have never heard of this happening and none of them ever cited that as a reason.
1 -
What you describe are rare and extreme cases that can be reported.
Survivors don't know who their killer is. If they dc every time when there's a secret offering in the loading screen, it's not because they are worried about getting targeted. It's simply because they don't want to play a game where the killer has a mori. Punishments for dc's can't come fast enough.
4 -
Or you guys could...i don't know...give an actual penalty to killers for camping instead of taking away a pip...i kid you not, i was camped by a freddy post-rework, all 5 gens were done and everyone left as he was circling around
2 -
Are you serious? You are on the hook, all gens are done - where is the killer supposed to go? Should he go in a corner and check if there are any holes in the wall?
4 -
How about giving an incentive to not camp? He de pip'd, if he keeps it up then he will de rank and you won't have to play with him.
0 -
Oh trust me it happens. There are killers out there that will hold a massive grudge and hunt you down. I'm not saying EVERYONE will DC because of this reason, just that I know people that do it because they are targets.
Getting hunted down is actually not that rare. At least on Xbox in high ranks. I've been hunted down myself. And while I have reported these players, DBD support will only take action if you have proof this person targeted you. In fact I could tell you the name of a specific player that will bring a mori if they see me and tunnel me off hook EVERY SINGLE TIME, but alas name and shame is not allowed. And when I reported this person I was told that because they went and killed other survivors after I died its not harassment. But if you were to watch multiple games against this killer you'd see they are in fact targeting me. They do it to some other players I know also. This guy has a bad rep in the Xbox community for doing this.
And on Xbox you can find out who the killer is about a minute into the game by looking at your recent players. You can also see the names of killers that dodged you about 10-15 minutes after the fact. So if they check their recent players and see a specific person they know they are online playing killer. If they see a mori they know it's probably that person.
I'm not defending everyone that DC's because of a mori. I'm only defending the people that do it to avoid targeted harassment, which the DBD support team tends to not do anything about unless the killer only kills that person and farms with everyone else or something.
I'm all for punishing DC'ers, but the devs also need to have better ways to track and ban people that target other players. Otherwise you are forcing some players to stay in games against someone that is out specifically to ruin their experience and/or waste their time with mori spams. It does happen a lot more than you think.

Are they actually adding the incremental ban timer on DCs like I've been saying for months?
Holy ######### finally some good if so. It works on R6, LoL, Rocket League, and many others.
0 -
Why is it a penalty to DC on a loading screen? Game hasn't started. The person that DCs loses an offering. How is this any different than lobby dodging which is not punishable?
0 -
Makes the rest of the people load for 4 minutes and they QUIT a match that had started.
0 -
I've been at Rank 1 on Xbox and while there are certainly people I don't like, I've never heard of people specifically targeting others. Obviously, that's malicious in its intent to ruin their match and something should be done about it BUT, they really can't tell who the Killer is because recent players requires you to load into the match.

There are ways to find out. Basically you follow the person and can check if they are online playing DBD. And certain players have certain pings consistently. I know people that can tell you with good accuracy who the killer is in the lobby. It's why a lot of people I know appear offline to avoid this.
So basically, you know X player is online playing DBD, you see a ping that resembles their usual ping, you see a secret offering, there is a high probability it's that person coming after you. And I've been in games with these survivors when they dashboard, most of the time they are right about who it is.
Also I'm willing to bet you ran into these players, you just don't know who they are. You might have even seen them get mori'd off hook and not thought anything about it, just the killer being a jerk. Before I became friends with the greater Xbox community I never thought twice about a dude getting tunnel'd off hook.

I'm afraid I'm a meh Survivor and stay around rank 5-7 consistently, so not sure if it happens there.
0 -
That sucks but to where the sacrificial lamb. But 3 people survived because of you. You will be rembered
0 -
This happens to me quite often. I usually stay in the lower killer ranks but know if I played this more than siege I could get into the purps & reds 😋 but if I use a memento mori I'll usually have this. I've had this happen when I streamed multiple times & I've lost rank & ultra rare items. It sucks
0 -
Match hasn't started yet though.
0 -
Yes, it has. It is loading the map and assets. The countdown phase in the lobby is before the match has started. If you quit after that, the game counts it as disconnecting.
0 -
A notable chunk of killer players do seem to be people who want to feel super powerful and just ruin other peoples gameplay....
0 -
Just because they kill you doesn't mean they want you to have a bad time. I could say the same for Survivor players, but, it doesn't make it true now does it?
0 -
How many points to I get when all that is happening and why does the game cancel if someone DCs during the loading screen?
Answers: 0 points because the game hasn't started. And it DCs because players gave BHVR the feedback that 3v1 games are garbage.
If someone DCs 30 seconds after the game has actually started, the game does not end. And now its a 3v1 with 5 gens (even worse). But the game has actually started and players have earned some points and progress.
So again, why is there an issue with people DCing during the loading screen? Other than time (no penalty to lobby dodging) and the DC'er losing an offering (their choice), nothing is lost.
0 -
I can't wait until they fix or punish the killer D/C's. So annoying to be awarded zero points for a killer d/c, and losing an item even when you brought in a White Ward.
0 -
No what I'm talking about is very explicit. They will face camp, tunnel off hook to mori, mori spam, watch you bleed out, etc. It's subtle but you can tell when someone is being targeted, usually the killer won't even care about other survivors until that guy is dead or DC's. Some will completely throw the game to make sure that 1 person dies.

The time being loss is the issue. I play ps4 and am currently in purple ranks, the other day i had 2 matches in a row where someone dc'd in loading screen and that basically made me wait 20-30 minutes to play the game. I even had a game that barely started where i killed one guy just for the 3 other buddies to dc right after. And they chose haddonfield of all things. My point is that dcing like that just wastes time and is utterly annoying.

I agree. Lobby dodging is a time waste as well. If you're not going to ban killers fot doing that, how can you justify banning survivors for DCing in the loading screen?
1 -
Because the game has started, do we punish Survivors for leaving lobbies too?
1 -
The game has not started though. That's just your nonsensical perception of things because it jives with your viewpoint.
The reality is until 5 players actually load into the game and are able to actually play the game, the game has not started.
1 -
Then why did Peanits JUST say that they will be banned for it?
2 -
Their game. They can do what they want. But also, the loading screen isn't the start of the game.
Also, why dodge moris? Well I just depipped after a game where I had two safe unhooks, 2 full heals, completed two gens, but I got mori'd. That's a joke and a big part of the reason I don't like playing against killers with moris.
There should be some account for add-ons and offerings in terms of pipping or de-pipping. And mori's and keys can really swing the game where at that point it should almost just be an unranked match. At the very least give out some blood point bonuses for both sides having to deal with playing with those.
0 -
Do you quit if there is a mori offering shown?
1 -
I don't know how it works on XB1 or PC, but on PS4, a disconnect and subsequent match cancel will cause every person to depip. I'm sure I have some pictures or videos containing this (i could make a compilation at this point).
The problem is you are delaying other's fun and potentially causing a depip.
Think of it like this. A friend is hosting a party, and has to have exactly 4 other people show up (i know, this is very specific). Everyone puts in $5 to come, they wait a while, and then its the night of the party. Then you cancel. You may not get the $5 back (while the others do), but now the party is called off and it was just a waste of time.
Lobby dodging on the other hand, I feel should still be punished, but it's more like changing your mind a short bit after RSVPing. You get your money back, and they can find a new person. It may be delayed a bit, but nothing had been set up and nobody had to wait for nothing.
0 -
Depends on my mood. Sometimes.
0 -
This is not true at all. I have a spreadsheet of my games because I'm a dweeb. It shows a depip, bit once you get to the main lobby you regain your pip.
Again, the only person that loses anything is the person who actually DCs. They lose their offering. Everyone else keeps their offering (though they do have to re-equip). Nobody de-pips. Just some lost time but you avoid a lame ass mori which more than makes up for the lost time.
1 -
Then you can get banned as well, because you admit you DC.
1 -
There has been a known glitch on PS4 that they lose pips if someone DC's.
0 -
On Xbox, the scoreboard will show it as a depip but when you return to the main menu you will see it didn't count. I feel like this should be the case with PS4 also, so you might want to double check at the main menu. It just wouldn't make sense that it depips you on this platform and not another.
0 -
I do believe that I may regain the pip in general. Though, there is one time I can confirm I did not recieve it back (possibly because of the way It depip). I got depiped back an entire rank (because I had just ranked up, so losing one pip lowered my rank). Though that is the only time I can actually confirm it was a permanent depip. I do trust you both though, so thank you both for the knowledge
0 -
Yes, can confirm that's how it is on Xbox.
0 -
Weird. Hopefully it gets fixed.

Just had 2 games in a row where one of my fellow survivors disconnected as soon as the Mori popped up before the loading screen. Come on guys suck it up it's just a Mori. It's hard enough finding a game with all the killer dodges...
0 -
The exit gates? The other survivors? His NOED Totem?
0 -
The other survivors had already escaped. And if they hadn't, how was he supposed to down them at the gates? Not every killer runs NOED
0 -
How do you know they escaped?
0 -
How does this help with people who are disconnected because someone is sniffing STUN headers and then hitting the target player with a flood script ... disconnecting them
Its currently still an ongoing issue because the game is Peer 2 peer.. dedicated servers is def going to help from this attack, but open BHVR to more aggressive/wider spread problems
If Blizzard servers can be DDOS'd... you bet your hat BHVRs servers will be under constant attack... the toxicity in this community extends far beyond than the game
0 -
Yeah, I've NEVER heard of someone being kicked offline remotely on this game.
