Why rank reset?
Is there a legit purpose to this? Why, after all the effort to reach red ranks pays off, do we get shoved back down the ladder? Some clarification please?

A couple different reasons, but the main ones are:
- Players who don't play for a while will be a lower rank when they come back. This way, they don't come back after a year long hiatus facing the best killers/survivors out there, they ease back into things.
- It helps keep people where they should be. Particularly when playing survivor (and especially when ranking was based on bloodpoints), it's possible to rank up higher than you should just by getting good teams. Rank resets bring people back down a little so they don't end up in a range above where they're comfortable.
The short version, while it may not always be perfect, it stops everyone from being permanently stuck at rank 1 - 4, leaving the rest of the ranks barren (making queue times super long for anyone outside that range).

Last point doesn't exactly stick when you realise that people, including me, are having matches against red ranks at yellow and new ranks (rank 14-20)
