Another Legion re-work Suggestion

I was bored of waiting for any sort of news on Legion changes and decided to see what I could do to try and make Legion feel like their old self but have counter player. Legion feels like an adrenaline filled play style, which means running fast and attacking multiple times. Right now even in Feral Frenzy, Legion feels so slow. Vault speeds are a joke and there is no threat in chases to even really try and juke. Most of the time survivors just eat the hit and mend straight away.

I wanted to change it back to how Legion used to work but this time give the survivors some sort of counter play.

Short list of changes:

  • Deep Wounds will now drain to 50% of it's bar while inside a Terror Radius.
  • The Deep Wound timer will pause it's draining at 50% or below 50% while inside the killer's Terror Radius.
  • Deep Wounds will still drain during mending.
  • Deep Wounds will pause the timer at 1% while mending and outside of the killer's Terror Radius.
  • The killer still wont be able to see the progress on Deep Wounds.
  • Revert all movement speed changes to Legion.
  • Keep Legion's TR to 32m, so they move 110% base and have their old Feral Frenzy speed with a larger TR.
  • Successful Feral Frenzy hits to survivors, already in Deep Wounds, does 1/3 of the Deep Wound timer by default (read below for addon changes that balance this) and reduce the power gauge by 50%.
  • Missed attacks during Feral Frenzy still ends the power and empties the entire power gauge.
  • Allow Feral Frenzy to be used at 50%.
  • While in Feral Frenzy, reduce the fatigue time to 2.5 seconds when landing a hit on a Deep Wounded survivor. When missing an attack in frenzy, suffer a 4 second fatigue (same as current).
  • Cancelling Feral Frenzy reduces your power gauge by 25% and suffers a 2.5 second fatigue (not considered a forced fatigue, this will affects addons).
  • Feral Frenzy does not recover while in fatigue.

This allows survivors to counter play the legion, if they miss an attack they suffer a longer CD and lose all of their power gauge. Which will give you plenty of time to run away and or hide if you have IW or a locker nearby. Legion's need to be accurate with their swings or they will get heavily punished, this means jukes at windows/pallets/360s you name it, will be powerful here. It's based on your skill to dodge a hit, and the Legion's skill to aim the hit while running so fast. You could possibly look into nerfing the lunge range while in Feral Frenzy to help with this counterplay.

Below is how the changes would look on the power's description and addons.

Basic Stats:

Base Movement Speed: 110%

Terror Radius: 32m

Height: Average

Power:

The Legion has a Frenzy power gauge that builds up over time. The power, Feral Frenzy, can be activated by tapping the Power button. While active, the power gauge drains rapidly and the power ends when the gauge is empty, triggering an forced fatigue state. (Frenzy can be activated when the power gauge is 50% full)

When activating Feral Frenzy, The Legion enters a deadly rage. While the power is active:

  • The Legion sprints faster than base movement speed.
  • The Legion can vault Pallets, but cannot break them.
  • Survivors' Scratch Marks and Blood Pools are hidden from The Legion's view.
  • Missing an attack depletes the Legion's entire power gauge and ends the power immediately.

While Feral Frenzy is active, hitting a Survivor who is not currently afflicted with the Deep Wound Status Effect:

  • Applies the Deep Wound Status Effect.
  • Injures the Survivor, if they are not already injured.
  • Refills The Legion's entire power gauge.
  • Triggers "Killer Instinct", revealing the location of all Survivors who do not have the Deep Wound Status Effect applied and are within The Legion's Terror Radius.

While Feral Frenzy is active, hitting a Survivor that is currently afflicted with the Deep Wound Status Effect:

  • Damage the survivor's Deep Wounds timer by 1/3.
  • Depletes The Legion's power gauge by half it's maximum and ends the power immediately.
  • Suffer a forced 2.5 second fatigue.

Missing an attack while in Feral Frenzy:

  • Depletes The Legion's entire power gauge and ends the power immediately.
  • Suffer a forced 4 second fatigue.
  • NOTE: Hitting a Survivor with a basic attack while Feral Frenzy is not active will deplete the power gauge by half of its maximum.

Addons (only the addons changed will be listed):

Smiley Face Pin:

  • Applying Deep Wounds to a survivor causes the Blindness status effect for 120 seconds.

Friendship Bracelet:

  • When suffering a forced fatigue from Feral Frenzy, you're power gauge will not be lowered below 10%. Does not stack.

Never-Sleep Pills:

  • When suffering a forced fatigue from Feral Frenzy, you're power gauge will not be lowered below 15%. Does not stack.

Susie's Mix Tape:

  • When suffering a forced fatigue from Feral Frenzy, you're power gauge will not be lowered below 25%. Does not stack.

Julie's Mix Tape (Now Rare):

  • Slightly increases lunge range (EW3 Myers size). While in Feral Frenzy moderately reduces the speed of vaulting windows and pallets (reduces to current Legion's vault speed).

Defaced Smiley Pin:

  • Applying Deep Wounds to a survivor causes the Mangled status effect for 90 seconds.

The Legion Pin:

  • Applying Deep Wounds to a survivor causes the Broken status effect for 60 seconds.

Joey's Mix Tape (Now Uncommon):

  • Moderately reduces the amount of power gauge lost when successfully landing an attack outside of Feral Frenzy (From 50% to 25%).

Stab Wounds Study:

  • Applying Deep Wounds to an injured survivor not affected by Deep Wounds, causes the Deep Wounds timer to start at 33%, and is now treated as if you missed your attack (this means you suffer 4 second fatigue and lose your power gauge).

Frank's Mix Tape:

  • After successfully hitting at least 3 different survivors during a Feral Frenzy, you're next forced fatigue will last 1 second and you will lose no power gauge.

Cold Dirt:

  • Considerably reduces the length of a forced fatigue (0.5 seconds).

Iridescent Button:

  • During Feral Frenzy, any Pallets you vault are immediately broken, blood pools are now visible and putting a survivor into the dying reveals all other survivor's aura within your Terror Radius for 4 seconds.

Fuming Mix Tape:

  • Each successful hit while in Feral Frenzy grants you a token up to a maximum of 10. Once at 10 tokens and in Feral Frenzy, the next survivor you hit who is already afflicted with Deep Wounds will instead be put into the dying state and all tokens will be lost.
  • Being stunned, blinded or missing any attacks will lose all tokens.

WHATS THE COUNTER PLAY??

With these changes, making Legion wiff will be their biggest counter play. Using corners, pallets, windows you name it, you want Legion to miss any of their attacks. Similar to bubba' chainsaw tantrum when he hits walls. Of course stunning Legion with a pallet is a good play too. This way Legion can still apply pressure and people who stay inside their TR to mend will have the bar reduce to 50%, which is still two hits of deep wounds. This also removes the dumbass moon walk exploit.

Behaviour themselves said, sometimes they just want to release a fun killer who might not be viable. While I have no idea if this version of Legion would be' viable', I do know that they now has a direct counter to their power but can still slice away at anyone they want, which is the whole point of the character.

Let me know what you think.

Change Log:

  • Specified that Deep Wounds pauses at 1% while mending

This is all very well planned out... but I don't really see why this would be better than anything else. Remember, people hated Old Legion cause they put the Chase on a TIMER. I feel like this is too close to what Old Legion was, and that it really doesn't play into the lore as much as some other ideas that I have seen in my Rework Legion thread.

With this the moonwalking issue of Legion would still come back, cause they would follow you long enough to get you to 50%, hit you and get stunned then either leave you to bleed out or whatever.

I do REALLY like the add-ons though. You did good there.

Knocking them down to 110% with the TR being 32 would hurt ALOT as well. There are reasons that 115% are the ones with 32 TR.

Overall, very interesting but not... well it's well thought out but not what Legion needs.

You can't use a moonwalk strat as it's based on TR now not being in a chase. Their timer will only decay to 50% over time while in TR, which means you can't just follow them until the timer runs out. It also means if you wait till it decays to 50% to hit them again, its still two more hits to down them.

Giving 110% MS and 32 TR I think is fine if they kept their old speed during Feral Frenzy. Not sure if you remember but they were pretty damn fast. Most people actually used Frenzy for travelling as well, and cancelling it yourself doesn't nuke your power gauge so you can still have enough power to try and get a hit in.

Depends on how you want Legion to work. If you want a completely different power, or their older power. I have no hopes they will look into doing some super difficult power that involves all 4 legion characters (though would be cool) so I chose to stick with what we've got and what I enjoyed playing. My goal was to get it as close to the original design as possible, but still have some form of counterplay.

EDIT: I should clarify you don't get downed while mending (like how they had it on Legion's release).

I still kinda think it would hurt more than help. I don't mean to be rude or anything of course. I just think it wouldn't help as much. I just want them to keep the rush down playstyle they have. I played alot of Legion, new and old. In fact Legion is WHY i came back to DBD after the 2016-2017 times. I love the lore and the playstyle.

110% with a normal TR of 32 feels really rough. The 50% mending thing seems a bit off too, for some reason.

I want them to have the Rushdown playstyle they have and I enjoy, but I don't think that reverting it back to how it used to be would be the way to go. You could always put this in my thread where alot of Legion mains chill at. Might get some feed back.

Fair enough. I don't see how else you could design a sort of rushdown playstyle without it being horribly oppressive to the survivors.

I honestly think old legion + the deep wounds doesn't go down in TR + cancel FF on missed attacks is enough for them. Who knows what the devs do with Legion. Doesn't look like any changes any time soon :(

I have hope they will do something. That's why that thread is being kept alive as hard as it is. One day they will see all the good ideas there and might use them.
