Why is there a steam to windows store crossplay?

Pc is PC so why don't they automatically play together? The option to enable/disable crossplay is completely useless because you are playing against people with the same hardware...

Giving players the choice is the reason I assume. If I want to be able to see everyone's steam profiles after a match, I'll keep it set to no crossplay, but if I'm chill with not doing that and want more players to play with, I'll set crossplay to on.

When I get the chance, I'm enabling crossplay for potentially quicker matches.

What is a Windows Store and why would I purchase anything from there?

    🤔

But why is there crossplay between these stores in the first place? They are for PC so i don't get why BHVR created different servers for the windows store.

I'm thinking maybe to test crossplay on similar systems to see how well it does. The option could be to not force people into a test.

In the end it's just a chance to ruin matchmaking and split the players...focusing on the money.

    Why not?

They could do it, they did it.

@Peanits can you explain this, please?

The player base on Windows DBD is going to be very small. No one likes long queue times. Allowing those players to play with Steam players will improve their experience. Without crossplay, that platform will probably die out. For the viability of the game to have anyone playing it and spending money, crossplay with Steam players is essential. My guess is that playing it through the game pass for free might be more likely to convince those Xbox players with a PC to buy DBD on Steam, but you never know.

And... It could possibly be the first crossplay test, but I doubt it. First real crossplay test will be PS4 with Xbox and then the much bigger challenge of pc with console. Nintendo Switch will be the most painful with it's underpowered hardware. Thank God they have no intention of throwing mobile in the mix!

The two to three players at the M$ store need people to play with.

Actually i imagine the windows store version is quite popular as it's now free to play with the xbox game pass.

In what way? The only option this gives is more players in the end and give people a choice. Now where does money come into this.

Its already been explained. They enabled crossplay as it's very simple to do and why its on by default. The option to disable it as explained by Peanits that is really for future use which tend to say crossplay between pc and console is being considered and some may like to opt out of that.

While playing on pc it may seem logical to have all store fronts be able to just play with each other but the legality of it without having permission is probably why some use there own launcher (3rd party drm) instead of the stores account.

If you just used the store front to launch the game and had to create a seperate dbd account and log in then that issue in theory goes away.
