The purpose of swapping back and forth is that victor gives an instinct to charlotte to tell you if some one is close by. That's the whole point of them stopping when not in use

I still have quite a lot of work myself but once you play enough and find the right killer for you things get easier, just as long the matchmaking doesn't throw you into a match with really high ranked survivors.
