Totems are very gimmicky ... If you aren't specifically playing around totems, that is, playing with the intent to patrol totems and not gens, or running Spirits perk that makes false totems expose the survivors, then there is no real point in my opinion. I rarely use them.

they are on a timer, so its not a big deal to me. its not like it used to be when survivors could hold a game hostage (if they were really good) and never actually leave, sometimes forcing the killer to DC. Im so happy those days are over.

I find it funny, survivors are supposed to be scared of the killer even in a 4 on 1 scenario. I can see how survivors would constantly say they are being abused, the math doesn't add up.
