A List Of Game Performance Issues (PS4 - EU)
After seeing all the posts about console optimization being bad, mostly on Twitter, I decided to compile a list of problems that I encounter on every play session.
First, is asset loading. This was discussed sometime ago by some devs on a dev stream I believe? Essentially, whenever an "asset" needs to be loaded in, a lag spike occurs. For example, opening a menu, getting a button command prompt, perks lighting up and go out, and status effects appearing, e.g bloodlust, haste, blindness etc. Tragic thing is that this was already resolved some time ago. It's been a while since this happened, but when the Léry's rework released, the lag spikes we're fine, if not gone. On Léry's, an FPS eating map. I can't explain how this got fixed, and how it reset back. But I guess some changes we're made to how assets gets loaded into the HUD, and calmed the spikes. I should note that this does reoccur at around 3:AM my time. Lobby's are swift and my FPS is stable at 60FPS. I don't know if there's a change in code for testing at this time, and I'm just getting unlucky with my timezone or what, but there's that.
Secondly, particles. This is more minor, but it's noticeable whenever you activate Demon Mode with Oni. The game lags, but it doesn't freeze the game like a lag spike. This isn't a major issue, but it is something that can offset your camera angle. This is common for most games when the camera is put up close to a lot of particles, but the camera isn't directly in view of the particles, so I have no idea what's truly causing this issue.
Matchmaking. Yes, I will include this. Although it's better now with lobby times, playing with/against rank 10's and up is more common than 9-? I'm both rank 1 on each side, and I usually stay up there unless it's a warm up game or something. This doesn't mean that the lobby times are perfect either. And they are not consistent at all. Some ques take 10 minutes while some take less than 5. This makes planning play time extremely hard. Killer is instant, which I can't complain about at all. I watched the most resent dev stream, and I understand why this is happening. They reduced the rank range when doing matchmaking, and leaving in the lobby expands that range even more. Hopefully the next ranking system will fix this, but for now... I don't know honestly.
Auto-Aim. In case a developer is reading, I know you've already denied this, but please, hear me out. Your swing ending way, way too early is not my fault. I originally thought it was me accidentally releasing my R2 button by mistake, but after playing Pig and my ambush ending around 1.8 seconds too early is not my fault. My guess is that the "look at the survivor to make the hit look like it hit" system is overlapping the lunge. When the survivor moves faster than the system can read it, the game gets confused. The game still thinks the hit has registered because the "system" has confirmed it, but when the checks are made, it doesn't count it. The game can't cancel a hit in any way, and since a hit isn't made according to the system, it registers it as a miss, and essentially giving you a penalty for doing the right thing. And this doesn't happen every once in a while. From my experience, it's at least once each match. At most, 5. There's a technique to counter it that I cannot explain, but even with that it can still get confused. All I can really say is to keep moving your camera, but obviously that can cause you to swing and miss. This is not exclusive to console. This happens to PC as well as I have a account on both systems. PC is way less consistent, but it still happens. Solution? My suggestion, reduce the power of the system changing your camera. It can still happen', sure, but less and if you know the counter, you can pretty much avoid it all together.
Lastly, graphics settings. I know, a console? You should just be able to pick it up and play without any worries. The game is supposed to be set up already to a playable state. And I'm not saying that the game is unplayable, not at all. I think it's fine, although with the mentioned stuff above, it needs some help. A graphics setting that has two settings, "Visuals" and "Performance". I don't know what graphics settings the game is using, but Visuals is what it is now. Performance is either Medium or Low, or a blend of both. It's for the more competitive players. Now, Performance will have an advantage, sure, so one solution is to split matchmaking into two. However, that would increase lobby time and wouldn't really work. But if PC can have a Low and a Medium+, so can PS4 (and Xbox) as well.
I did not re-read this for any errors or spelling errors. Sorry in advance! But after hearing what was said on the dev stream about voicing player feedback about what's wrong with optimization, I thought I'd put this together.
