Why LGBT is so important?

When I played Dragon Age 3 Dorian and Iron Bill got into a relationship. 😍

Well hopefully those games were not released during pride month or their stories were not written during that time!
;-)

That must hurt, ha haa!
They were not. =]

Id take any pain for a piece of Iron Bull

Thankfully. Otherwise I heard some would call it pandering..
(sorry just a little teasing, not meant super seriously)

Why does everything need a motive like "to get more sales"
I think it is the right time since they are currently in the process of expanding lore.
At the end of the day nothing matters we are all simply human regardless of anything else. Including something for the LGBT community is progression and it shows a little love for those who have been ostracized for simply being who they are which some didnt or want too understand.
I for one applaud decisions like these.

Complaining about BHVR (or any company) only showing the rainbow etc. during Pride Month is ridiculous.
Companies can't blast out 400 messages every month if they want the message to get through. They have to pick a theme and stick to it. Aligning with others during Pride Month simply amplifies the message. In fact, because so many companies (and other groups) are doing it at once, there is a higher likelihood that the message will get through than if it were all dispersed throughout the year.
If BHVR (or any company) was trying to celebrate Pride Month every month along with everything else, it wouldn't really be the focus and the message would be muddied. It also doesn't make sense from a resource standpoint because they'd have to have someone creating content for it every month alongside whatever else was the focus that month. If they need to use Pride Month as a reminder to put out something every year to show support, so be it. They are showing support. I don't care if they profit from it.
The presence of an LGBT+ character will be something that can be a year round symbol to those who want to see someone LGBT+ represented and that is a good thing.
For those who think it is overkill or unnecessary, try being marginalized for decades or more. It IS necessary and will continue to be until the world has caught up.

Nobody's changing anything. Why did you assume they were all non-LGBT to begin with?

Of course, but that's the goal, to slowly erode any time that LGBT issues might actually be focused on. It's the same reason the ALM slogan was created, to shut down discussion on BLM.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was to avoid being labeled homophobic before someone accused them. Sort of a safety net that every other company uses these days.
When they started live streaming weekly they never shied away from showing fan art that had same sex relationships, but only now after 4 years they have to come out with a tweet that reads like they're being pressured. That they were inclusive and diverse shouldn't have been in question, but 2020 is a hell of a year.

Why did your post get to stay but mine got deleted? We both said the same thing?
1 -
Have you tried editing it? I saw another post vanish because of that earlier today..
1 -
no I didnt edit it, notice though Orions post was edited by a forum mod after the toxic dude got deleted off the board.
1 -
Then I would assume your post was deleted in the same attempt but accidentally fully..? I’ve read it and can’t remember anything that would indicate it would be deleted
1 -
its not a big deal. important thing is that the toxic dude got das boot
2 -
Your guess couldn't be more off target. Nobody pressured them, nobody called them homophobic, nobody did anything to them. Mathieu had a conversation with one guy who pointed out that despite them saying they weren't going to hint at characters' orientations in the lore, they'd actually been doing it since the Nurse was released, but only to heterosexual characters. The tweet was essentially saying "We're not going to restrict ourselves to just heterosexual relationships any more".

Obviously it's because I'm sexier. Duh.

Orions a secret dev confirmed!
0 -
Nah. I wouldn't have time to comment this much if I was secretly a dev.

i'm bi i say let the characters be who you want them to be imo
0 -
But what if I wanted David to be gay? :(
0 -
So, they got called out and then the tweet happened. Makes me think my guess wasn't so off target.
1 -
You may interpret it this way, but you have no prove that it really was taken as a „call out“
i see it this way: the devs/Cote/BHVR thought about these raised questions and revised their previous statement since they did contradict themselves with the mentioned relationships in the lore.
in the end, they will now treat LGBT+ the same way as they already treated non-LGBT themes before so does it really matter that much?
1 -
let him be gay to you i mean characters shouldn't be label i know in lore they are but in life things happen people change they sexual preference all the time nothing set in stone,
i like David and Nea too but they sexual preference or gender don't matter to me they who i want them to be.
0 -
Then let the devs label other chars as well and not only as straight. they can’t revise it and stopping now is just a form of exclusion. It will not interfere with any head canons since those are just that..
0 -
i don't care either way i mean they could be straight gay Bi before hitting the realm but time pasts in the realm they could change(head Canon) they just video game characters.
1 -
No, one dev had one conversation with one person. People have conversations with other people all the time. Sometimes they can even recognize that the other person makes a good argument, it's normal. If you think having a one-on-one conversation is calling someone out, I don't know what to tell you.

Devs do it for guaranteed attention
Just as this thread was made for guaranteed replies
1 -
Okay.
so? It’s not even only guaranteed positive attention as this thread has shown. And they certainly could have made other things to gain attention but in the end they decided to include LGBT+ after revising their previous statement.

Thats sad to hear. But sounds like an individual case where one person full of hate did it. The problem is not really that trans people overall are hunted like animals in the Usa, its more like that every sick minded person can legally own a gun.
And to the opposite of that camps there are parents which want to set a sign for trans people by forcing there children into thinking they have to change their sex.
So individual their will always be people that think against it and just forcing people to like it wont make it better, thats all i wanted to say.
Their are 15 countries currently where gay people can be sentenced to death just for their sexual orientation. Those people have no chance to protest, so why doesnt this movement do something for the people over there?

I personally make no difference between it. And as far as i know in the western world, or at least in germany where i live, everybody has the same rights, can get the same works, i know transsexual teachers that teach musilm or christian raised childs and get respected.
The gay pride march also wouldnt be happening if LGBT wouldnt be threated like everyone or have the same rights.
What every individual thinks is another thing and everybody has their right to think whatever they want. If some people in this tweet rub it in each others faces, they are just idiots, not some big issue our society has to face. It would be glad if first noone in the world would have to fear for his own life because it is stated in a countrys law that they get executed for their sexual preferences, like it is the case in 15 countries worldwide.

Just because they are relatively have the same amount of Rights (which it's not 100-percent I can get into it but it's not the point of the post I'm trying to make) doesn't mean the problem with active discrimination isn't a thing.
The idea of let's stop talking about this because from a vague legal standpoint we are all the same is really stupid.
Does the western world have it a lot better for LGBT Communities than other places yes some places are leaps and bounds worse there's not even debate about that but that doesn't make the issues that we face here something that you should look over.
3 -
People dont need to stop talking about it, just stop rubbing it in each others faces.
I always hear about people complaining out of their safe space, but noone seems to stand up and actually change things better for people that dont even have the right to say what they are or feel.
How about people start there and not just change some character in the movies to piss off the group they want to think different.

I mean, no, but did you mention all the hate only around rainbow icons? Around new last of us where comunity went in a blind rage bcs of lore? It was huge. Right now, characters have no lovelines, friendships or such. At least cuz they are from different countries, aren't they? Well, lets just leave it like that

Being a company means profit is everything and the best way to make profit is gain approval from as many stereotypes as possible.

If you mean no love lives or friendships in DbD: they do have them in the lore, and that’s where they will add LGBT topics. It’s not for actually bringing the playable characters together and make couples here.
looking at all the haters and their disapproval BHVR gets when just saying they will mention LGBT themes in the lore, this means they are not doing it for the profit right? I mean there is not that much to gain here. Sure it might be a factor but really can’t be the only one.
1 -
You're probably right, I mean how many people actually care about the lore of the game? Not everyone at least.
1 -
yeah that’s the thing. Why do so many people suddenly have a problem with something that gets added to the lore? It’s so irrelevant, most of the stuff I have read once and already forgot. And you can just ignore it and the game doesn’t change at all .
2 -
You have no clue what you're on about.
First of trying to change the political climate in those countries is not as easy as turning on a light switch.
We still have a bit of a way to go to get our stuff sorted out here well there are lots of people advocating for things to be sorted out over there it's going to take a long time and it's not going to be easy in the slightest.
Also if a LGBT character get added or revealed in a movie or TV Show and it pisses you off you seriously need to re-evaluate the type of person you are
