I'm rather curious.
What do you two think of this whole situation? Surely, this is something that all of us can agree on, since it is ruining both Survivor and Killer games.

So I played the game yesterday after a break (cuz RE DLC was a let down), and I was playing solo hoping they fixed the FPS drops. Nope, instead Everytime a killer hit me, I got 2 fps, one of the effects on the side pop is another drop, I activate lithe they drop, gens get done and drop, the list goes on.
It's getting frustrated with how they've been saying they'll fix console optimization for almost 3 years now, but not only have they not done that, the PC optimization is becoming garbage.
I decided to take a break, but my friend got on we go into custom and his frames are dropping horribly on RCPD, and it's an absolute nightmare playing Nemesis with frames dropping when you just wanna use his power.
At this point I told my friend don't use any of his cakes til' after the event or when optimization is fixed. He said okay, and I'll be telling any other friends.

I'll admit that made me chuckle. I'm not getting that many dc's but I'm a terrible rank 14 killer at best.
Out of respect to Pulsar and the question put to you, do you have any additional comments about the performance of DBD right now for all platforms? And in particular on the consoles now and the past few years?

I CAN'T ######### SEE! The maps on Switch are so dark that I can't see where survivors are going. Midwich is so ######### dark that I can barely see where survivors are and they disappear by walking in a dark corridor. And of course the devs are not acknowledging this problem on Switch so it's going to be like this for months to come.
Sorry for the rant I needed to get this off my chest.

I've given up on "oPtiMiSaTiOn" so I bought a XBOX Series-X today. Was lucky as my local store had 2 in stock (the employees themselves were surprised).
Yes, I am excited about the next gen experience but at the same time I can not express just how disappointed I am that I had to get a new gen console to play an old game that has worse graphics than some XBOX 360/PS3 games (i.e. Crysis 3).

They have separate corners for PlayStation / XBOX so actually I don't know if they had a PS5 but I doubt they had one.
Even the two Series X they had weren't listed on the website (that's probably why the employees were surprised).

Just started playing a couple weeks ago on PS4 and love the game except for the terrible lag. This is the only game im currently playing with this problem. Its highly disappointing to see this has been an issue for years. I wouldn't recomend this game to anyone while this issue continues and if not resolved ill most likely play till i feel i got my monies worth or till im to frustrated. Hoping it works out,till then happy hunting.

I play since 2017 and, as much as this game had its ups and downs, I can tell you that on ps4 the situation has never been so horrible like it is now.

Another Dev Update has come and gone without any mention of Console Optimization.

I just finished reading came to say the same thing :)
The server stuff sounds interesting all but it doesn't really matter when the game is in such a bad state still for us.
Plus we never got the 60fps from the March 2019 dev update so maybe this one will never happen or be talked about again too.

I would be satisfied if they gave us the option to change the graphics or change the graphics on ps4 and Xbox one to low like what they did to the switch just to relieve some of the annoyance of the frame rate problems but it seem like they are going to add more problem with offline bot matches (or maybe it doesn't and maybe work better then playing online matches)

My game seems to be running better today. And i dont think its crashed since the last patch. Not sure whats changed between yesterday and today but its def better

Back home on my PS4 Pro, enjoying the console life.
I'm not exaggerating when I say killers have to hold my hand to help me get the crowns. These two videos are highlights of some prize moments, but the frame drops, stuttering, and flickering are constant throughout all maps.

Hey, I found a small workaround that might help some of you with the performance issues:
If you have DbD saved to your console's internal hard drive (which is likely to be an HDD with current-gen consoles) and also have an external SSD hard drive on hand, move DbD onto the SSD. I swapped it over on to my new one yesterday evening (a Samsung T7) and noticed a drastic improvement in performance over all the jank I was dealing with that afternoon.
Did it based on a hunch which someone shared in a different post about how they think DbD isn't functioning right with HDD storage (something about choking the flow of information or whatever, I don't remember all of it) but doesn't have these issues on SSD. Next Gen consoles use SSD storage instead of HDD, so this might be an additional factor helping their experience.
Don't get me wrong, the game still doesn't run all that great, but it does run a heck of a lot more like it did prior to update 5.0.0 (the RE Chapter). At the very least, it has significantly cut down on the stuttering I was experiencing.
It's not a perfect solution, these hard drives can be a bit pricey if you don't already own one so it'd still be money to shell out for a better DbD experience that shouldn't have been this bad to begin with, but they are a lot cheaper than the next-gen consoles if you aren't ready to make that jump yet. Plus hey, more storage for other games you could play when DbD is being terrible (like Civ 5, obviously).

Lmao playing Trickster with theses stutters issues is downright impossible, i don't think ive ever got a 3K with him yet, especially with how sweaty survs are in my region.
At least he's chill and fun to play so it's less frustrating.

I'm on an original Xbox One from like, 2013 (no fancy-schmancy One S's or One X's here).
As far as a really rough before/after video:
Quality's a little iffy because I don't have high-end video editing software, but hopefully it conveys the difference.
The big takeaway is that I saw a near-complete disappearance of extreme stutters/freezes after moving DbD onto my external hard drive (which, to reiterate, is an SSD).
Even when Bloodlust or other statuses activated, even when lunging at survivors, even when being stunned/blinded, and even when Dead Hard was used (Feng had it, but I forgot to record my chases with her), the game just... worked.

So we know that the problem have to do with the internal hard drive (hdd) so I hope we get some optimization soon

The HDD issue should be known to the devs because its somewhat like that on steam as well, if you dont install on SSD. The interesting question is, what is so heavy on the hard disk during the match? Maybe the game logs cause the stutter?

Just returned to this game and its an absolute dumpster fire on ps4. Playing on the ps4 pro and It's like whenever something happens the game just has a spaz and cannot process what is going on as well as it had previously. I know there was a hiccup in performance every now and then when I last played, but now it's really...really bad. This is without a doubt the worst state I've ever seen the performance on DBD, and its enough to make me put it down and play better games for good. It is unacceptable that this 5-year-old game that used to run decently is now unplayable. Heck, I just had a game against death slinger on Haddonfield...he gets me with the gun in this little narrow passage between the outside wall of a house and a fence. He hits me and then when my character tries to run it spazzed out and went into 4-5 different areas: clipped Inside of the house, back behind him, back into the 1st floor of the house, onto the outside of the fence, back behind, in front, and then he hit me again and my character finally stepped down in front of him as if I never moved. I couldn't do a thing because that one hit triggered this in-game spasm that launched me all around the killer, through walls, and even into the house, I was outside of. I have never seen or had anything like that happen, and its time to say enough is enough at this point. We need optimization and we need it NOW.

A SSD is basically another type of device to store data similiar to HDDs.
The core difference between those 2 is that SSDs can access the data you stored on them MUCH faster than HDDs.

Am I the only one amazed at the lengths we all are going through trying to make this mess of a game we love function? There's another thread going into choice sexy technobabble on how to reclaim frames on PC.
Y'all better be getting commission monies or sumthin if you insist on doing the work for the devs....

Hey I remember removing the charms and not using hallowed blight cosmetics to aid our frames back In the day but sadly things have got worse but I have wine and boops lucky the survivors I have found in the fog have been very kind to me so far 💖🐷 hope you are doing well my oink sister

No,im on a basic ps4 to and the game was running perfectly like on pc before the resident evil update. Trust me the performance issues were mostly on xbox. This is a fun game but the incompetence/laziness and greediness of the team is what will lead this game to the downfall one day. They pushed 3 unfinished and problematic dlcs in a row,that’s unacceptable and inadmissible

I've had plenty of people say Xbox and ps4 is suffering to me personally and and you can see from this thread even pc players are struggling but I don't want to be negative here..
I'm happy at least someone out there isn't suffering like the most of us here are currently ..given up ran out of wine to make the killer role tolerable so done for a a week ..ugh I really wanted that stupid boomer charm too sad times .

Btw I even got to the point of resetting my router and restarting my game serval times just to play a few matches but still got frame drops out the butt
Seems to be most problems with the new updated relams maps more assets = sad times🐷😭 the only thing that seems consistent for me personally.
The only map I've had that was nice and least frame drops was grim pantry so maybe bring offerings for that my only suggestion currently 🐷💖

So I've only had chance to test on one game and can't try again till tomorrow, but I went into my PS4 pro broadcast settings and reduced the saved recording size down from 15mins to 30 seconds and changed the recording file size from 1920x1080 to 1280x1080 and had a match on the game with phead and I must said it did feel like it helped the stuttering a fair bit, certainly not made them go away but felt like shorter chokes, possibly placebo or just a lucky game but feel free to give it a try.
