If you have any problems after the updates, just click on "verify and repair" and everything should work

Didn't work. Will reinstall later.
Again, didn't work for me. Will try reinstalling when I have time

Dev update, no mention of steam deck

This is the single remaining obstacle to me switching to Linux full time on my desktop. As a result, all my frustrations with Windows are causing my frustration with BHVR to mount. I can't for the life of me fathom why this is so low of a priority. Linux market share for Steam users is small, but present, and the Steam Deck is a popular device. From everything I've read, this should also be an easy thing to implement. What gives?
As usual, the lack of communication here is the most frustrating part. I can understand if technical issues have arisen, or if it's been a sprint to put out other fires and there hasn't been room to prioritize this. Without communication or action for something so seemingly simple, though, my assumption can only be that this isn't a priority for the devs. And if that's the case, this is a pretty sad state of affairs.

It is very strange that they are choosing to actively ignore a 20+ page thread. Makes me think something more sketchy is going on behind the scenes. The reality is that Linux/Steam Deck supports EAC through proton, and only requires developers to flip a toggle on their end. The lack of BHVR doing something as trivial as breathing air is not due to "laziness". It would give thousands of players the ability to play the game they paid for. All we can do is speculate since the community is being left in the dark about something that nobody would expect to take this long. Something that doesn't make sense looked at from any angle. They absolutely can enable it but won't. It just doesn't add up.

There’s speculation they signed some contract with Epic, which wouldn’t surprise me. BHVR is lucky Starbreeze chose them to develop their game, and now they act snobby and entitled.
3 -
It's a bummer that the deck/linux community is small enough that BHVR can get away with their anti-consumerism shenanigans at this level.

Someone contact another behavior official to tell them about this! PLEASE!!

Fun Fact, if you want an answer from Mandy in person you just need to write a message that's somewhat inappropriate. Your questions won't be answered, but at least you know they read it and choose to ignore it when they delete your post.

Me an my friends all moved to other online competitive games.
Im baffled with the lack of professionalism on promising steam deck support and then sweeping it under the Rug!
I can imagine we are not the only ones dropping this game completely! Yikes!

I literally registered to comment on this thread. I used to play dbd on my ps4, but moved back to pc gaming after owning a steam deck. I have literally bought the game again and steam and now can't play.
I refuse to play on either console or any other machine till it's available on the steam deck.

It technically is available on Steam Deck, just not through Steam unfortunately. You can play the Epic Games version (and you can link it to your Steam account so you don't lose progress) but it is pretty annoying to have to do that admittedly. Anyway, if you want to do that, I wrote a guide on how to set it up here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/361429/unofficial-linux-support-thread

This was my exact same situation. Played on switch, moved to stadia, and then to steam (deck). I bought ALL DLCS tons of skins and rifts and have now stopped playing the game altogether with my friends and we are playing other games we can all enjoy on our choice of consoles.
It feels like beating a dead horse at this point so i don't expect anything from behaviour now. I feel its too little to late I have no interest in it anymore. I hope the Texas chainsaw game is super successful and on the deck so we can all enjoy a game that listens to all paying players, its not like its a free game to begin with

I do refuse to purchase the game again.

I ended up buying it on Epic in addition to owning it on Steam and I regret it. Opening epic is so much more of a hassle than just playing the games that are on the steam deck home screen so I never do it. I wish they would just enable the anticheat for steam already.

If you weren't aware, there's a Linux native alternative to Epic Games Launcher called Heroic Games Launcher. You can also use Lutris from what I've heard, but I find Heroic the easiest. I wrote a guide on setting it up if you're interesting in giving that a try.

so i finally got my game to work, but now i'm worried that my account might get banned is it even a possibility?

Here to say i still want support for this game, it opens fast with no framedrop but easy anticheat doesnt let me play, TURN IT ON PLEASE

Is this something we can consider a possibility perhaps around the time of the anniversary? It seems like a Dead by Daylight management issue rather than a BHVR issue as Meet Your Maker is fully verified, even was promoted as being Verified on the Steam Deck (seen here https://twitter.com/meetyourmaker/status/1643025592030482432). Just looking for some clarification on what is going on behind those tall doors?

Probably because MYM devs are not the same as DBDs.
Even if they are owned by the same company, completely different teams can be assigned to different game projects.
As we all know, historically DBDs devs were always out of touch with the community, making game changing updates only by following their own "stats" and "graphs".
Maybe MYM devs also take community's feedback, wishes and criticisms in consideration and are overall more experienced.

That’s what I said, it’s a DBD management issue not a BHVR issue in and of themselves as a company.
DBD team needs to get their stuff together and start getting their cash cow fed again before it dies off.
Fix the Steam Deck compatibility, this is exhausting and unreasonable at how aloof they are to a clear call from the community to do one simple thing.

I haven't touched the game for months now and all I can say is I have been enjoying so many other games on my steam deck.
Best decision I made. Not buying any more rifts, no more skins and spend so much time on a repetitive game that on top of that does not validate paying customer's concerns like we are actual adults and not some children.
Spent hundreds of dollars on it and invited people to it before. Now we don't even talk about this game anymore. The slap in the face with this issue has made us all bitter to even consider playing a match anymore.

Deceive Inc. devs broke Steam Deck compatibility last patch.
It got fixed the next day.
There is no excuse for BHVR to prolong this for almost 2 years.
Edit: Both games use Easy Anticheat, FYI

we have only one asnwer: not in plans, not in roadmap. calm down, guys, without announce we doesn't see linux support

Dead by daylight seems to be working with steam deck/linux on steam since the past 1-2 days using proton experimental or proton hotfix, hopefully this time theyll keep it going. Finally some good news.

i can confirm that it is currently working correctly for me on Steam.

OMG so its working now out of the box after changing Proton? No other tweaks needed?
1 -
Yes, but it could break again so always keep hopes low so you arent disappointed.
1 -
It’ll probably abruptly stop again, but this is a nice change. I’m happy to be playing this on my Deck and not at my PC. Much more enjoyable.

60FPS at medium settings, haven’t dropped below 57 FPS and no lag spikes or anything. Super smooth.
2 -
You can actually unlock 120 FPS by modifying some settings, but you'll have to go to Desktop mode on the Steam Deck to do that. I'm not sure if the Deck is capable of handling 120 FPS, but anything above the 60 FPS cap helps for hitting skill checks.

Thank you for the info, but I can’t bring myself to go all in just yet, otherwise I’ll be extra disappointed if/when they disable it again.
1 -
Thank you for the info! Gonna wait for their next move, I won't download the game and then realize that is getting blocked again.

understandable. i played a TON this weekend. XD i'm at work but if anyone can chime in, let us know if it's still working today.
0 -
Still playing right now :)
but let us all understand, if this stops working again, BHVR is intentionally turning it off
3 -
that's great! hoping it stays up with the announce for the anniversary.
i have about 20 chieves i need to catch up on now. XD

i want to see that Steam Deck Validated label! :D

First game on Linux, let's go!!

Signed in on here again to say thank you, I was finally able to play this game on my Steam Deck last night. I've been waiting patiently hoping the game would work eventually. Would it be safe to assume that this game has full support now for Steam Deck?
Post edited by cookieflips on1 -
No, I wouldn't assume that until they publicly announce it. Be prepared for them to turn it off at any time based on their whim. XD
still seems to be working for me as of 6.7.1
Post edited by nikodemo on2 -
To be honest, I wouldn't be too surprised if they at least don't intend to make DBD not work on Linux again, given their complete lack of communication about it since they announced their plans to make it run (still running like a charm on my Fedora laptop!).
But then I'd be even less surprised if they did, as they did last year.
Still, fingers crossed? c:

Apparently BHVR sent emails to a few people confirming they added support for good.

Has there been any public statement from BHVR about this yet besides direct emails? I don't want to get invested in it just for it to be another thanksgiving day accident just to get blocked from the game again >_>

I'm not believing anything until I see it with my own eyes.
