How to add my son as a friend

I bought Dead By Daylight for my son on the Nintendo Switch to specifically play with him while I play on Steam. The in-game search does not work for either of us (yes, we're including the #XXXX too), and we do not have any mutual friends to join the same lobby to add each other. My rank is significantly higher than his so getting in the same lobby as him isn't possible unless I play on his account and boost him.

What options do I have to get him added as a friend? He will NOT play the game without me, so it's a complete waste of money if I do not get him added...

    As mentioned in Bug Reports, its unfortunately affecting others right now in a similar capacity. I'm so sorry this keeping you and your son from playing together, but it should be remedied soon for everyone <3
