My suggestion to fix the issue of the disconnect epidemic (The Karma System)
Hi, I'm Cykosu, I made a post on Twitter recently sharing an idea I had that was very divisive over there, maybe here it'll be different, but overall it seemed pretty well accepted, and most of the negativity was very one-sided and came from people who don't understand why DCs are an issue, Regardless, I was suggested to share it on the forms as a suggestion.
If you play the game (especially Killer) at all I'm sure you've noticed its basically every 3 games you will have someone DC well before the Abandon feature is made available, my suggestion?
A Karma System! - Because the timers really aren't enough to dissuade from ruining other players matches.
(CONCEPT UI MADE BY ME)
The idea is every month, on Grade reset, you have maxed Karma, DCing or Giving Up in matches removes one point from your Karma, completing 2 - 3 matches without doing so will give you one Karma back.
Another idea is receiving Props from non-SWF teammates or Killers will make you receive Karma back faster.
At the end of each month, if you remain in good Karma, you receive a reward (This could be a large amount of Iri Shards, or BP, something good to incentivize abiding by it, could make it cycle each month like how the Weekly Box could be Rift Fragments or BP.)
Multiple Instances of Disconnection from Matches or Giving Up/Throwing Games Removes you from getting the reward, Once you've gone down a Karma Level, You cannot go back up until the monthly reset.
Further Instances of Disconnecting, Giving Up, or Throwing Matches will throw you into The Void Zone, In which you have to play Bot Matches to regain access to Real Player Queues, (The Void Zone is the only zone that you can leave.) - In the concept image above, I list it at 10 Bot Matches, this admittedly is a lot of matches, It could also be lowered to 5, 3, even 1.
Other ways to deduct Karma could be reports of Trolling, Griefing or Unsportsmanlike behaviour, these of course should follow a 'Report > Real-Person Review > Decision > Issue Point Deduction' method, and should not be automated whatsoever.
and as I mentioned before, the Karma would reset every month, however I do believe if multiple months in a row, a player hits The Void Zone, That player should receive a larger punishment, likely a prolonged ban from the game.
My reasoning for this system concept is because in my experience playing this game for the last 5 years, there has not been a time where players DC as much as they do now, and it's not just against high-tier Killers either, just today I witnessed a triple DC against my friend playing The Unknown, and 2 Instant DCs while playing with my friend against a Sadako, not to mention most of my matches on Killer, no matter who I play tend to have at least one DC every 3 matches, in some cases full-party DCs, for no valid reasoning, just because they can.
This has been a consistent issue since Skull Merchant's release, and has gotten worse overtime, and as it continues, Kill Rates get inflated, which leads to unnecessary changes. Skull Merchant shouldn't be F-Tier, Trickster's ""rework"" shouldn't have happened, and we're headed to a time where Killers are going to continue to get changed so other players can have more fun at the cost of peoples preferred characters being gutted and turned unplayable, While Survivor-side continues to receive overtuned perks and more pallets, I hope we can prevent that, because these last couple updates haven't felt great to play, not sure if that's been made obvious enough by the amount of people calling that out.
So even if there's no Karma system added any time soon, lets please advocate to play the game we queue up for, instead of only playing when everything goes right? lets advocate for learning the game and to not put anti-intellectualism on a pedestal, because truly, it's hurting the game more than anything right now.

Truly interesting concept! Penalties for game-spoiling tantrum DC's do need to be higher, but this cannot become an abusable social credit system that can potentially punish players for winning or making tough decisions.

Better yet fix the broken mechanics: camping, tunneling and slugging. Until then the dc will keep coming. Survivors are fed up with these tactics. Theres 0 counterplay because you never know when its coming. You'd have to use the same perks every match to counter it and what fun is that? Overtuned perks? What perks besides maybe vigil is even close to being good?

This.

Until the S-Tiers are fixed people are just gonna DC constantly even with incentives:
Bring them down to Weskers level.7 -
Killers would be under constant manual review because every time they have the temerity to win they'd get downvotes for whatever reason.
Nobody apparently remembers this but years ago (Nemesis reveal?) they announced automatic bans for players with too many negative reports. They never said anything about it again. Presumably they figured out that this was an awful idea: playing ghoul? Get reported every game. This has the same issue.

I don't like the idea unless Killer karma system is expanded upon as well, in the current form it seems oo harsh when the game has fundamental flaws with certain killers (imo ghoul, karsue)
as someone mentioned above killers like ghoul will just be given bad karma basically every match if you allow people to vote. or it could allow targeting certain groups by downvoting them just because they profile has X thing in it
edit : also 10 matches of bots is absurd, not everyone plays this game as much as some of us do and that would massively hurt low level players who may hop on a few hours a few times a week.
also how will being forced to play with bots work, will we be forcing killers to also play in bot lobbies? potentially making queue times take a hour as you wait for a killer to be in bad bot karma? because we cant even get a custom game bots I doubt they could do for a karma system.2 -
I like the concept but I don't think it works outside of rewards for not DCing.
It doesn't solve any issues with the game, it's still incredibly one-sided, and easily infallible if it becomes too big. We also have to consider that as much as we the audience would enjoy extra Iris for it, that would never fly with BHVR. We'd be getting 100k BP or 100 Rift Fragments or something equally as pitiful that wouldn't be worth engaging with the system at all. In my opinion.
I think in the grand scheme of things, it's a bit of a rock and a hard place. The game needs to be fixed and anything outside of that is a distraction. However, the game isn't getting fixed even when an entire year is dedicated to fixing it.

Why over complicate it though?
The reason people still dc so much is because it's too lenient. Just needs to be stricter.

Don't see what the point is. If they take away dc players will just afk until killed. 🤷

as long as people find an issue they will DC regardless…. tunneling killer, bad map, killer they just dont know how to play against, bad spawn location, swf buddy taken out of the match, team mates that are avoiding gens….are all reasons why people DC among many other reasons. they just need to make DC stricter so people that cant handle the game are forced to not play anymore. by cant handle the game i mean cant handle tunneling, cant handle their swf buddy being taken out, cant handle perfectly balanced killers that individual survivor just dont know how to counter.

AFKing is reportable and incurs a DC penalty though

They could.. if they want to be reported and banned :D the penalty should never go anyway regardless of anything.

My point is they will find a way. DC gets taken they afk. If they can't afk they'll run into killer and suicide.

this is interesting and nice but it will never work because survivors will never upvote killers. Literally never.
