DEAD BY DAYLIGHT × DEATH NOTE
DEAD BY DAYLIGHT × DEATH NOTE
CHAPTER CONCEPT: KIRA
THE KILLER — KIRA
Base Character: Light Yagami
Movement Speed: 4.6 m/s
Terror Radius: 32 metres
Height: Average
Weapon: The Entity's Scythe
A scythe given to Kira by the Entity, based on the scythe featured in official Death Note artwork.
Kira uses the scythe for his basic attacks.
KILLER POWER
THE SHINIGAMI & THE DEATH NOTE
The Death Note allows Kira to kill his victims without having to physically reach them.
However, Kira must first learn their identity.
To accomplish this, Kira uses 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙢𝙞.
THE SHINIGAMI
The Shinigami normally remains behind Kira.
By pressing CTRL, Kira can switch between the Death Note and the Shinigami as his active power.
While the Shinigami is selected, Kira can give it different orders.
GENERATOR PATROL
By holding Right Mouse Button, Kira enters the Shinigami's targeting mode.
While holding Right Mouse Button, Kira can aim at Generators and press Left Mouse Button to add them to the Shinigami's patrol route.
Kira can select one or multiple Generators.
When Right Mouse Button is released, the Shinigami begins travelling to the selected Generators.
If only one Generator was selected, the Shinigami travels directly to that Generator.
If multiple Generators were selected, the Shinigami visits them in the exact order chosen by Kira, always following the most optimal available route.
The Shinigami floats through obstacles and structures while travelling, but cannot pass through the solid walls of closed indoor map structures.
Once the Shinigami reaches a Generator, it patrols its area before continuing to the next selected Generator.
The Shinigami continues its patrol until:
- It has completed the selected Generator route; or
- Kira orders it to return.
EXIT GATE PATROL
Once the Exit Gates are powered, Kira can also send the Shinigami to patrol them.
The same patrol system used for Generators applies to the Exit Gates.
Kira can therefore use the Shinigami to investigate an Exit Gate without having to physically travel there.
RETURN
Kira can instantly recall the Shinigami.
To do so, Kira must:
- Press CTRL to select the Shinigami.
- Hold Right Mouse Button while the Shinigami is patrolling.
The Shinigami must have visited at least one selected objective before Kira can recall it.
Upon being recalled, the Shinigami immediately returns to Kira.
THE PRESENCE OF THE SHINIGAMI
Survivors cannot see the Shinigami.
This applies both when the Shinigami is standing beside Kira and while it is travelling between objectives.
However, when Kira orders the Shinigami to begin a patrol, Survivors receive a warning sound.
This could be the Shinigami's characteristic laugh or another recognizable sound from Death Note.
While the Shinigami is actively patrolling, a special music cue plays to indicate that the Shinigami is currently searching the area.
The music could use a track inspired by the Death Note anime, or a new track created by Behaviour Interactive that fits the atmosphere of the game.
The Survivors know that the Shinigami is searching.
They do not know exactly where it is.
SURVIVOR DETECTION
The Shinigami has a 15-metre detection radius.
When a Survivor enters this radius and there is a direct line of sight between the Survivor and the Shinigami, the Shinigami detects the Survivor.
The Shinigami then:
- Sees the Survivor.
- Learns and memorizes their name.
- Reveals their location to Kira through Killer Instinct for 10 seconds.
The Shinigami can memorize the names of multiple Survivors during the same patrol.
When the Shinigami returns to Kira, it gives Kira the names of every Survivor it successfully detected.
This activates the second part of Kira's power:
THE DEATH NOTE
When the Shinigami gives Kira the name of a Survivor, that Survivor becomes registered in the Death Note.
Kira can then write that Survivor's name at any time.
Distance does not matter.
Once the name is written:
The Survivor loses 1 Health State.
The name is then removed from the Death Note.
To use the Death Note against that same Survivor again, the Shinigami must locate them again and communicate their name to Kira once more.
This creates the following gameplay loop:
The Shinigami finds the Survivor → The Shinigami learns their name → The Shinigami returns to Kira → Kira writes the name → The Survivor loses a Health State → The Shinigami must find them again.
KIRA'S JUDGMENT
The Death Note has another function.
If a Survivor has been hooked twice, Kira can issue a special execution order.
If the Shinigami finds that Survivor again and gives their name to Kira, Kira can immediately kill him with a heart attack using the Death Note.
The Survivor can be:
- Healthy;
- Injured;
- Or in the Dying State.
Their current Health State does not matter.
They are killed immediately without requiring another hook.
This execution is represented as a remote Mori.
DEATH NOTE PAGES
Every time Kira uses the Death Note to remove a Health State, a page from the Death Note falls onto the ground.
A maximum of 2 Death Note Pages can exist on the map at the same time.
If two pages already exist, additional uses of the Death Note do not create another page.
Pages remain on the ground until interacted with by a Survivor.
Death Note Pages reveal their aura to Survivors within 5 metres.
PICKING UP A DEATH NOTE PAGE
When a Survivor picks up a Death Note Page, they gain the ability to see the Shinigami.
This allows them to see the Shinigami:
- While it is beside Kira;
- While it is travelling between objectives;
- While it is patrolling Generators;
- While it is patrolling Exit Gates.
The effect lasts for the remainder of the Trial.
Survivors who have not interacted with a Death Note Page remain unable to see the Shinigami.
However, a Survivor who already possesses this ability can interact with another Death Note Page and drop it again.
This allows Survivors to carry a page toward another Survivor and give them access to the ability to see the Shinigami.
Death Note Pages therefore become an important tool for Survivors to reduce Kira's information advantage and anticipate the Shinigami's investigations.
KILLER MORI
Scene inspired by the death of Raye Pember
Kira approaches the Survivor.
Kira takes out the Death Note and calmly writes their name.
The Survivor begins to suffer from a heart attack.
Kira watches as they collapse.
Kira closes the Death Note and simply walks away.
KILLER PERKS
These perks are only my suggestions. Behaviour Interactive could change or replace them as they see fit.
HEX: PURGE THE WORLD
Once the final Generator is repaired, a Hex Totem becomes activated.
While the Hex Totem remains active, Kira can perform a Mori on Survivors regardless of how many times they have been hooked.
The Hex Totem can be cleansed normally.
ONE STEP AHEAD
When you damage a Generator, the Generator with the highest repair progress has its progress transferred to the Generator with the lowest repair progress.
Both Generators then begin regressing normally.
If only one Generator has significant progress, its progress is transferred to the furthest inactive Generator and begins regressing there.
PERFECT VICTORY
Once all Generators have been repaired, the auras of Survivors interacting with an Exit Gate are revealed to you.
Their aura remains visible for 2 seconds after they stop interacting with the Exit Gate.
THE SURVIVOR
L LAWLIET
A Death Note chapter would not feel complete without L as the Survivor.
L could also have special dialogue when facing Kira, including Light Yagami and his Legendary Skin.
L'S PERKS
These perks are only my suggestions. Behaviour Interactive could change or replace them as they see fit.
DEDUCTIVE ABILITIES
After escaping a chase that lasted at least 15 seconds without being downed, gain 1 Deduction Token.
You can hold a maximum of 2 Tokens.
When you enter a new chase, all Tokens are consumed.
For each Token consumed, reveal the Killer's aura for 30 seconds.
CRIMINAL PROFILE
After all 4 Survivors have been hooked at least once, this perk activates.
For the next 4 hooks performed by the Killer:
- Reveal the Killer's aura for 10 seconds after each hook.
- If the Killer hooks the same Survivor twice consecutively, reveal their aura for 20 seconds instead.
HIDDEN CAMERAS
After repairing a Generator completely, this perk activates.
Press the Active Ability button while standing near a Window or a dropped Pallet to place an invisible surveillance trap.
When the Killer or a Survivor enters within 10 metres of the trap, their aura is revealed to all Survivors.
The trap remains active for 120 seconds, after which it disappears automatically.
If the trap is placed on a dropped Pallet and that Pallet is destroyed, the surveillance trap is also deactivated and disappears.
KILLER COSMETICS
LIGHT YAGAMI
The default Killer character is Light Yagami, representing Kira.
His alternate outfits could represent different stages of Death Note, including:
- Light as a high-school student wearing his school uniform.
- Light during his investigation alongside the Japanese Task Force.
- Light during the later stages of the story.
- Light wearing the suit he uses while confronting Near.
LEGENDARY SKIN — MISA AMANE
Misa Amane replaces the default Kira character as a Legendary Skin.
This cosmetic would include a complete redesign of:
- The Killer;
- The Shinigami;
- The Death Note;
- Animations;
- Voice;
- Mori.
The Shinigami is replaced by Rem.
Misa would also have unique dialogue and voice lines.
Her version of the Mori would involve Misa using the Shinigami Eyes to see the Survivor's name before writing it into her Death Note.
OTHER POTENTIAL COSMETICS
TERU MIKAMI
Another potential Legendary Skin could be Teru Mikami, representing another human who became an extreme follower of Kira.
If included, Mikami could also have his own Shinigami-related visual elements while retaining the same Killer power.
WHY THIS CHAPTER FITS DEAD BY DAYLIGHT
Kira would not be a traditional chase-focused Killer.
His power would revolve around information, investigation and identity.
The Survivors would constantly have to consider:
“Has the Shinigami seen me?”
And once the Shinigami has found them:
“Does Kira know my name?”
Kira's greatest advantage would be knowing where his victims are and who they are.
The Survivors' main counterplay would be preventing the Shinigami from identifying them and obtaining Death Note Pages to gain the ability to see it.
This would create a unique gameplay loop based around the central concept of Death Note
DEAD BY DAYLIGHT × DEATH NOTE
As a fan of both Death Note and Dead by Daylight, I tried to make this concept as balanced as possible while staying faithful to the lore and spirit of the anime.
I would absolutely love to see this license eventually make its way into the game. However, I would be disappointed if a franchise with so much potential were used only for Survivor skins instead of getting the full chapter that I believe it deserves.
And if I, just a random fan, can imagine an entire Death Note chapter, I’m sure Behaviour can do it too.
I hope this concept reaches as many Dead by Daylight and Death Note fans as possible. Maybe, someday, we can actually get the chapter that I’ve been hoping for — and that I’m sure many of you would love to see as well.
