The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

How dare people attempt to find work arounds to the problems we've dealt with for over a month.
2 -
Trust me in that, they CANT FIX the console problems!!!!! If they could fix it,it should have been fixed long time ago. Dont expect them to change all their codings from the beginning to rewrite new ones. I know they cant,so i don’t expect them to fix it. I never had any fps or lag problems since the re update,so i didn’t care about the poor performance so many console players stated but now i can see and it’s unfortunate how bad optimised this game is. You want the problems to be fixed; fix them by yourself, buy an ssd or the ps5/xsx or a good pc.

I mean if we are talking overall optimisation that birthed this thread then I agree with you it's not gonna happen, they do however have to get the game back to it's more functional RE update state as quite a high priority or they would eventually risk loosing the ability to sell it on playstation.
3 -
Its not up to them, the game keeps getting bigger and bigger with more updates dlcs etc…. At this point they cant do anything so its in our hands to fix the problem. Ssd-ps5/xsx-pc

I forgot how games like RE: Village, Battlefront II and such don't run at a smooth and consistent framerate on the original 2013 Xbox One and PS4.
7 -
It does crack me up when people take the term "last gen" and then try to apply it to consoles running DBD of all games, ######### im flying around doom eternal at the speed of light chainsawing and grapling hooking and and propelling into gore melee animations killing 100 enemies a minute without missing a beat but the highly complex dead by daylight with it's next gen graphics and it's maps twice the size of GTA, we gonna need to order a ps5 for that one.
Just remembered I have an SSD knocking about at home, just ordered a cable so gonna see if it helps.
Edit: on the plus side if enough of us find the SSD does fix the horrible stuttering issue that's plaguing consoles at least that can help point the devs in the direction of what needs optimising and looking into, because as much as it needs it I don't see them rewriting the entire code no matter how much they desperately need to.
10 -
At the rate it's deteriorating and considering that the RE patch is hurting every system, I give it a year before they have to re-write the code.
6 -
Well,see you in 100 years then 🌝
3 -
So I've been thinking since the recent developers update that the really bad hits everyones getting from both sides isn't just made worse by hit validation: but the poor framerate. Why? I'm going to guess lol:
Games run their logic via an update method which checks for things every frame, which is were a lot bugs can occur (clipping out of bounds due to a missed collision check coz going too fast etc). I think people with low frame rates are causing delayed hit checks with the recent freezes which then take a while to process then have to go through the hit validation system, so there is this huge desync caused by slow validation on the person with lower framerate (the majority of PS4/Xbox players in the recent update).
If the above is true it's possible it will be fixed with the server being the judge buuuuut... I'm honestly concerned it's going to make it unenjoyable more so for those who are playing on poorly optimized systems.
Maybe put every system on low graphics like the switch until they can optimise it better (if you're gonna be lazy about it).
I'm just concerned.

At least give console the option to change the graphics settings ourselves. The very first thing those who play this game on PC do when they encounter framerate issues is change it off of Ultra. We have no such option at all.
8 -
Yesssss!
Did it ever get explained why console are capped at Ultra?
3 -
I imagine it's due to the fact that on paper the current gen would have no problem running ultra and it looks better so why not, what they didn't factor in was how poorly the base code was and not understanding that running DBD of all games through a port would have terrible results.
3 -
It’s just no acceptable that they were unable to achieve the 60fps they planned for in March 2019, especially when they have upgraded the graphics and effects to improve how it looks on newer hardware.
They’ve made a clear choice to improve the game graphically knowing that I would put more strain on older hardware which they said they were going to optimise but have just stopped talking about.
It’s not even like they’ve come out and admitted they can’t achieve it any more, just silence, hoping everyone does what you guys are doing; finding temporary work arounds yourself or spending money on new hardware which shouldn’t be necessary given their optimisation plans.
If it wasn’t for that March 2019 update giving me hope for the future, I would’ve quit a long time ago and saved my money instead of spending it on a game that felt like it would end up running so badly it’s not really playable.
I feel tricked with those empty words to keep me hanging on and spending cash to support the game, when it seems with the graphics updates and lack of optimisation attempts; that they had no intention of ever delivering on that impossible sounding plan, and their silence just seems to confirm it.
If this was a higher profile game/company, if there were less defenders of their bad practices, if there were console players with an audience; this would not go on without some accountability.
I wonder if a similar situation to the colourblind issue were to happen in this scenario, how fast they would have something they’ve ‘been working on the whole time’ to show off?
12 -
Honestly with the maps the size they are they could do 3 more graphical overhauls and the current gen consoles wouldn't be challanged at all, you can push specs much higher on console than pc because it's being designed for one uniform set of hardware.
The issue lies in the porting and the game being awfully written which to the defense of BHV they designed the game as a small bunch of new indie devs, hell most the engine was designed via blue print assets which is like how I could design a game in my bedroom lol. Porting always makes problems even on the most well written games. What DBD needs is a real playstation and Xbox version made from the ground up, but the pc version needs that too just as much so not gonna hold my breath.
4 -
Dude. I am not buying it myself but if people can play the game that way and it makes them happy why judge them?
What is your solution? Some people can't give up the game and don't have other options atm. Not everyone can just stop playing like some of us or wait for a fix (which most likely won't ever come).
2 -
I only remembered today I had a spare SSD still in my bunch of parts, cable arrives tomorrow I'll update with the results, if it really is the miracle cure like everyone says it is, you can technically fix the problem for the price of another game.
Should you have to, absolutely not.
6 -
The problem is that for some of us those things are much more expensive, depending where we live.
5 -
I completely agree, the console is not the problems. If the game was properly optimised then the graphical improvements would still not even strain the hardware.
During a break from playing I have picked up a 7 year old FPS zombie parkour game that has a sequel coming out later this year, and it is completely open world with much better graphics than DbD and a hell of a lot more going on, and it doesn't even have to load during the open world. There are battle royale games which are much more massive in scale and with many times the players of DbD in game at a time and they run smooth as butter while looking hundreds of times better.
The issue is that instead of concentrating on optimising the foundation, the time has been spent on making things look superficially better at the neglect of important and much needed core improvements.
The fact some of you are improving it with SSDs and the suggestion that DbD loads all assets into each game regardless of if they will be used or not, suggest its some sort of indexing issue where it has trouble accessing important information at the time it needs to; and that reducing the unnecessary things loaded or streamlining how it access the information would improve things.
But since console launch we have had complaints about the uncapped FPS on the title screen causing consoles to overheat and shutdown; and it would seem like relatively small fix to just cap those and solve the issue, but yet nothing has been done and its just not discussed any more when people get tired of complaining with no answer while the rest of the playerbase is distracted with other things.
Console has been completely broken for almost a month now with hardly a word but here everyone else; cosmetics, Trickster buff, pallet\grab fix, an amazing 2 week event that band aids that grind issue, and we fixed that shiny new map. I would be excited for that grab change if I wasn't currently freezing every time I swung my weapon at a survivor.
It sucks and I'm honestly dreading tomorrow as I don't feel like it will all be magically fixed and I literally can't finish my tome challenges because of how bad the game is running, with only a few days left of both the event and Rift. I really feel like I might be waiting for the big patch at mid chapter for any meangingful change and worry it might not even come then.
16 -
A fellow dying light enjoyer, that sequel looks amazing doesn't it, can't believe we almost lost that game to covid, regarding everything else you pretty much summerized mine and a lot of people's feelings on the matter, if it's the quarterly investor meetings forcing them to keep pumping out chapters I can somewhat sympathize, but then why not just contract the job of rebuilding the game to a 3rd party at the same time.
4 -
What console are you on? Xbox one s is like night and day
0 -
One X.
I believe @Shdw_Void also installed it on his external drive and saw no improvement
3 -
Nobody is suggesting you should have to go out and by one certainly. Knowing this info does 2 things:
1) for those who can affird it and are whatever about it its an easy solution.
2) and more importantly it may help the devs diagnose SOME of the issues as they can be difficult to pinpoint
HOPEFULLY they can use the information to fix the problem so people that cant afford it get the issue resolved
0 -
I think the one x had an ssd anyway built in didnt it?
0 -
I believe so, I thought it was worth it to try.
It only took me 15 minutes to move DBD from my Internal to External, so I figured it wasn't a huge deal.
3 -
So it could be that the issues with the one x are an entirely different issue from the one s. Im not a hardware expert by any means so idk
2 -
That is not what I meant. I already said that it is good that there is ssd for people that are willing to do it in my other posts.
I am just stating that for some of us it is not worth it, that's it. I am not against it at all. I am glad that it works for people.
3 -
I switched to PC a few days ago and I haven't seen the problems people are mentioning. I play on ultra with a solid 60 fps on pretty much every map (Ormond did drop to 58 fps for a second, then back to 60). Maybe people just need to upgrade or update their systems. idk...
0 -
Thats an unacceptable answer as long as theyre still selling the games on consoles and cross progression isnt a thing
8 -
Last gen consoles should easily be able to run DbD,but unfortunately this game is an unoptimized mess so the only thing that runs this game well are really strong PCs/consoles that just power through that.
11 -
It would be nice, but I'm not sure they can do it. I haven't played on console since the last update that was supposed to help with performance, but I've heard it got even worse. Maybe they will eventually fix it, though.

I'm Back with round six of new clips showing how enjoyable the console experience is. Losing distance in chases as well as botching the loop is one way to get outplayed by the game. Just play better I guess.
In regards to the talk of SSDs, If it works then that's great for those that wish to spend the money. I personally will not be purchasing one as it is not worth the investment for me. I own a computer more than capable of running this game. I only play dbd on xbox because I am not restarting 100 days worth of playtime just for a better experience. I'm not gonna buy an SSD for almost eight year old hardware so I can play one game in a better state.
It should not be our responsibility to find ways to make the game run better. This game is capable of running smooth as butter on consoles. BHVR either can't fix it, choose not to, or aren't allowed the time to. I am in agreement with those that say we need an "Operation Health" Chapter. what is the point of releasing new DLC when I can't even use the new killer power in the first place. The freezes went from 0-1 seconds, to 2-3 when Nemesis came out, to now 4 or more seconds of freezing after the latest patches.
If I'm being honest I don't really want to play this game anymore, and that's coming from someone who's been playing at least bi-weekly since July 2018. I cannot outplay survivors when the game freezes at crucial moments. Same deal with playing survivor. I'm not even getting outplayed. It is the game itself giving me the finger as I try to do anything of value. I lag forward as well as even backwards sometimes as shown in the Ghostface clip. But as long as this forum post exists, I will continue to play and highlight just how trashy performance has become.
13 -
Can you imagine how much they would have made in sales with Resident Evil, the game that was made on consoles and one of the oldest and beloved console IP's ? But all the console owners that BHVR took money from to play it on their current gen consoles need to "upgrade" ?
Huge yikes.
4 -
I feel ya man. I would play myself if it wasn't so frustrating to do so. We all understand why you feel like quitting.
1 -
It's ironic how I've had my original xb1 since Christmas of 2014, and other games play perfectly fine but DBD has the worst bugs I've ever seen in my entire gaming experience.
8 -
People who think DBD needs a high end PC to run smooth are delusional. Have they ever see any other multiplayer on the PS4/XONE? Apex, Overwatch, Warzone, Battlefront 2, Red Dead Online, GTA Online, Fall Guys, Dark Souls 2/3 PVP, Bloodborne PVP, etc. All these run perfectly fine on older systems, and BHVR is big enough (their anual revenue surpasses even older companies on the market) to optimize this game. It's not like DBD is some kind of coding monster, we're talking about a game which has 10 minute matches between 5 players on medium sized maps.
The only thing they need to do is stop vomiting new content that no one is going to care after 3 weeks at least for 6 months and focus on game health. I'd even support more expensive chapters if they did at least this for once.
10 -
Yep beautiful isn't it definitely shows my experiences tonight in spades even on killers that don't have much craziness to their power trying to make sense of it is a lost cause I think sad part is I don't think it's going to improve I hope once the advents over maybe that might improve things who can say
Thanks for aiding the cause 🐷💖

We're still going, boys!!!!, lets get it to 75 pages

I saw a post above this that had a dev response and thought it was for this post. Guess some things are too good the be true
11 -
No patches planned for tommorow right?
0 -
Let’s pray.
At least ptb is on Wednesday, that’s my only hope
3 -
At this point, I just assume that any patch will make the issues worse.
11 -
I actually still believe the devs can and will fix this. At least the freezing will be gone soon, that I’m certain with.
0 -
What exactly had you filled with such optimism? Surely it cannot be based on track record...
6 -
Lol. Can't disagree with that. But I want to see if it can get any worse at least. :D
0 -
The fact they made a point of tweeting about the issue and making a notice rather than their stonewall silence, their version of the client is a fair few ahead of ours but it takes weeks to arrange the roll outs with Sony/MS.
I'm fairly certain had they not been able to identify the issue and resolve it the issue would have received the same treatment this thread has regarding general/promised optimisation - denial/ignorance.
Whether that means the fix comes tomorrow though is another matter, I'm pretty sure if they fixed it tomorrow in their office it would take us minimum 3 weeks to receive the fix.
2 -
if I was bhvr, I wouldn’t want to leave the game in this state on consoles. People are gonna leave and so does the money.
5 -
Since the consoles altogether are the largest playerbase, and the vast majority of those are still on the proir gen machines, you'd figure action would come quicker somehow

Yea

Just crashed as survivor during the end of the match on Switch. I hate when that happens, going through the entire match just to lose everything.
I was running to open the door while the killer was busy elsewhere, too. I'm sorry, teammates, it wasn't on purpose :(
