DO NOT REMOVE THE UNLOCKABLE MASKS
You better not remove Leatherface's masks! You're going too far with this. This is not the way to go. You already pull a bunch of bullshit but now taking away cool and unique content? Just stop this before you do it. DO NOT REMOVE THEM! You're just giving those people what they want. Plus, how many people are actually being a piece of ######### over the faces? Not enough to warrant this! I bet the people who even reported these probably don't like this idea! They'd probably want you to actually ban these people for being big numbskulls. Not remove content because they reported something.
Had to quickly edit one last thing here. Look at it like this. You're punishing the people who are being harassed and that report these things and not giving out the proper punishment to the people that harass them.

"You're just giving those people what they want."
Like a gameplay experience with a little less racism? That's probably the intention

It's a cosmetic....calm down.
4 -
Honestly they should probably just expand bubba's earnable cosmetics to include all unique survivors, just have it be one of those things that come out with every new survivor like a twitch shirt, or ugly sweater.
30 -
I'm calm. I'm just saying don't do it.
4 -
The masks are offensive but t-bagging and flashlight clicking is a "strategy". What a joke this is.
30 -
It's probably not. BHVR is probably making the decision. The people who own the license probably don't care.
4 -
I never got how they're offensive. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's what the character does. That's it. It's a mask of those characters. If they remove the masks then might as well remove all those characters.

I am so confused as to why these cosmetics were removed. I am not even a killer main, but I can 100% sympathize with why these people would be upset. Just because a few racists/trolls went around and harassed some survivors, BHVR has to remove the these cosmetic choices and effectively nullify his whole backstory. This is what Bubba does, kills his victims and wears their skin.
Additionally, what exactly does BHVR think they are fixing? You certainly won't change these select few's propensity toward racist/troll actions. They can, and will, still do the things they do, just without the masks. You aren't addressing the problem at all because newsflash, it can be addressed by game developers. This is a problem that some people just have. They are a-holes. However, removing content for everybody based on a very small percentage of players' actions is such an overreaction.
I also like how all of the other discussions around this topic have been closed, or other forum members have been banned for logical and fair non-inflammatory rebuttals to BHVR's decision. You are basically giving the trolls and racists more power and motivation to continue doing what they do best.
14 -
Somehow I knew that locking the first thread was going to result in a bunch of unfinished-business splinter threads.
Hot topics are like hydras that way.
I do agree with the second paragraph, though. Removing Smartface does nothing when the real issue is that BHVR drags its feet when it comes to banning bad actors, so one racist fuckface can rain sewage on far too many players before they finally get the boot. I don't see how removing the cosmetic is going to fix the harassment issue that awful people are allowed to be awful people for a really long time before moderation does anything about it and I see this decision as a sad kind of confirmation that BHVR doesn't want to put the resources towards fixing the actual problem.
3 -
The argument being posed is that Smartface, the claudette cosmetic, is black face and there are... Reports of players being harassed by bubbas wearing Smartface.
In my own experience, I've never seen a single earnable Bubba cosmetic ever in all the time I've played the game. So honestly I might have to see the evidence before I believe it.
4 -
I appreciate your position, but they already stated they are removing them. Time to start working on accepting it.
3 -
Oh good god why are we still doing this
6 -
I agree.. i will miss my Claudette mask :/
1 -
I am fully aware that my position may sound repititious; however, I still consider it necessary to keep mentioning.
0 -
Idk what world you live in, but in most people's world, repeatedly crouching and clicking a flashlight aren't really on par with racism.
14 -
How is having cosmetics that 100% represent the character's lore and backstory racist? The player behind the killer may be a troll or racist but not the existence of the cosmetics.
5 -
The artist of the masks is happy they are being removed.
7 -
Comparing tbagging to racism im so quirky 🤪🤪
14 -
Commendable, but it is far too late now...
1 -
I’m not coming at you Op, but I’m glad it’s being removed. This announcement showed that people will go as far to mock others for this.
Many people on here started comparing racism to teabagging/flashlight clicking/ even one somehow managed to make it a problem that the Wraith is black.
I do completely agree on one thing though: BHVR needs a better report system. I’m sorry some bad apples ruined these Bubba cosmetics, but the action taken is needed.
4 -
How exactly is it needed/warranted, it doesn't change anything. These few apples will continue doing what they do best.
1 -
The thing with 'racism' is that you're not standing up against it if you're just talking or being argumentative about it on the internet, why not actually try to do something in the real world? I don't see how some virtual world has to be that offensive in a game when all you could ever do is look away from the screen and go touch some grass, It's funny seeing people be an SJW about everything when all they can do is complain and whine about it on the internet instead of taking action.
Words and depictions in any media shouldn't even affect your perspective into getting triggered, you can tell me how "based" or "red-pilled" I am, but at the end of the day what have you actually accomplished when you're on that computer?
2 -
Yea, they'll just stop facecamping with that mask to just call you the n-word in post game chat. So much for less racism.
15 -
I would honestly be fine if they locked them and you couldn't wear them, I only grabbed them for collection sake. Removing them is just stupid. I can't believe they are actually topping the idiocy of hit validation with this decision. I genuinely never suspected they would. I thought we were peak.
4 -
That's a falacy, people won't stop being racist over it. If I am a main trapper and I target a Claudette just for their skin color I am racist and who's gonna stop me? Believing that this change anything is being a fool.
4 -
Because it takes away intent. Racist players won’t turn Smartface into a black face issue, then start griefing black creators and/or people playing as black characters.
I’m well aware that people will do whatever they want, I’m even more aware of how bad BHVR is with banning people.
This won’t change anything for you maybe, but for people who are affected by this, this is a lot. It’ll go from a blackface griefing issue to “oh, a normal bubba tunneling/camping me/hitting me on hook, etc.
5 -
If there is evidence then punish those players responsible, don't take something away players put time in to earn.
11 -
What if, instead of taking something away from the whole community and nullifying a character's lore, BHVR actually did something of substance and implemented a functional and appropriate reporting system where you could actually go after the people that are targeting people affected by the a-holes behavior? Instead the griefing issue negates a character's lore and a lot of players' hard work in obtaining said cosmetics. It's not that I can't sympathize with the issue, but the action taking was all wrong.
8 -
I think removing the masks is also bad because its a unqiue feature related to Leatherfaces background. Alternatively they could do the following:
1. Add a Stream Sniper Mode - when enabled, the player's name is disguised to prevent harassment on stream chat and social media
2. Add a Cosmetic Filter - when enabled, all killers and survivors in-game will be displayed in their default outfits
3 -
And I agree. I’ve said again and again, BHVR needs a much better report system to get rid of these trolls.
But for now, (assuming they can’t or they’re working on it) removing the cosmetics is the right call. No, there’s no issue with the faces themselves, they’re just taking away something from racists to be racist with. Especially when that very thing is similar to black face.
3 -
But removing those skins won't solve the issue.
Wanna know what would solve the issue? Perma banning those people.
The people that abused the skin will probably just switch to another killer/skin once the changes go live. So why not ban them instead of removing the skins for everyone?
6 -
I am sorry I respectfully disagree that removing it does anything to reduce the arsenal of racists. Additionally, as it has been said before, the whole lore behind Leatherface is that he wears the skin/faces of his victims.
Clearly we will have to agree to disagree. Unfortunately BHVR has already made the change, I just think we keep making changes in the wrong places and with the wrong things in an effort to target a select few people.
5 -
It’s okay to feel that way. I do feel bad for people who earned these cosmetics, didn’t use them maliciously, and are being given just shards instead of something more.
I’m sorry about the racists ruining this. But my morals are against everything those trolls stand for. Thank you for understanding, and yeah, let’s agree to disagree.
1 -
Is there actual evidence about racism? Because LF is a player easy to camp with and those who've been asking to remove the mask was a "Oh, I was Claudette/Adam/ David" and a LF tunneled/camped me... and that's not really evidence because almost every LF camps and tunnel, those players in those threads never had any evidence that has proven their point.
1 -
That face when people will still feel targeted after the removal because they didn't realize that most Leatherface are just degenerates in general. Like, tunneling is our bread, camping is our butter. You cannot change who we are inside.
2 -
The fact that anyone is defending this lunacy is depressing.
Oops, people can play as black characters and then say racist things afterwards, better remove all black characters from the game too. That is the exact same logic. I've never even seen a Bubba using the unlockable cosmetics in my hundreds of hours of gameplay, let alone behaving like a cartoonish villain and being wacist. The probability that this has actually happened more than twice in the entire game's lifespan is next to none.
Do people forget how often Leatherface players camp and tunnel? What's more likely;
A) Claudettefaces were targeting black survivors to be big meanie bigots.
B) Claudettefaces were targeting the first survivor they saw and did what Leatherface usually does, and then the person who was playing survivor assumed intent based on the killer using that cosmetic with zero actual evidence.
This decision by BHVR is nothing more than rancid virtue signalling at the expense, once again, of their playerbase.
4 -
The "evidence" is them saying "this has happened to this and that content creator" usually not mentioning any names. There was even someone who admitted that they just assume the bubba with the mask is doing to be racist because they got facecamped/hit on hook and whatever else.
I have yet to see a video where an actual person gets targeted by a bubba with that mask and be told in end game chat that it was because of the color of their skin.
6 -
Yeah, they’re giving the racists what they want, the removal of the masks which involve poc.
1 -
They're some dumbass masks that are hard to get and change no gameplay
2 -
Ah, so what you're saying is that both sides are on the same page with regards to the removal of the masks. :P
1 -
I honestly thought the masks were unique and encouraging players to unlock these masks through. Though I can understand why people think it's racist also Leatherface is getting his own game.
0 -
Think of it this way, should all the black characters be removed because an Elodie was being racist, or a Tapp? This does not solve anything. These masks are a part of leather faces lore, he literally takes your ######### face and wears it. Now because of a few bad apples, they’re removing the poc masks and leaving the whitest mask he has. So to fight the racists they literally give them what they want which is the EXCLUSION of poc. In turn, the removal of the masks seems pretty damn racist.
4 -
Uh, I believe you'll find that those masks are extremely non-canon to Leatherface's lore.
5 -
Are you serious? THATS the thing you focused on? God this community really has gone down the ######### toilet if people can’t use critical thinking.
2 -
good god why do people care so much, it's a ######### cosmetic in a video game get over it
3 -
It's not wrong, though. The cosmetics in question are not a part of his lore at all.
2 -
If you’re so fixated on that one tiny detail I spoke of, I’ll educate you.
HE CUTS YOUR FACE OFF AND WEARS IT!!!
2 -
So? The removal of those cosmetics does not contradict that fact.
3 -
Yet it removes a fun little nod to that lore. Add on the fact they’re removing the faces that came from poc characters and leaving him with the second whitest mask you can get on him. If you don’t see the problem, then YOU have a problem.

Tani, MiladyConfetti, and SistaKaren (who recently made a video on this) are popular streamers who experienced this kind of hate.
While I don’t stream, I’ve experienced this a few times myself. While it’s not common enough for me to make it my issue, my experiences are not the same as someone else’s.
