Dear Behaviour... (David King)

Wait, so is David actually not so loosely based on you?

Man, can this thread be forever pinned as a beacon of positivity?
Such a touching story and amazing comments from both staff and forum users

Anyone who says representation doesn't matter shows they don't know what it's like not to have representation and be told (actively or through omission) that "people like you" don't get to be cool or heroic--or even have their existence acknowledged at all.

good thread on this topic.😍

David is one of my favorite guy characters and it resonates more with me after his come out as Gay through the lore. I'm very happy they chose him. Thanks behavior <3

Thanks for sharing, it must be difficult to type something this personal and private up to essentially an audience of complete strangers
I'm glad to hear DBD can have such a positive impact on people's lives, as much as it can be a frustrating game a lot of the time - it's still very important and It's amazing that BHVR can provide you with even more reasons to love the game
Also Milo is amazing, thanks for blessing us with him!

David is one of my favorite guy characters too got all perk p3 everything glad he came out
great story.

Sorry to hear that you felt / feel the same way during your upbringing, but I’m hoping you’ve came out the other side and are in a much happier place and if not, just try to stay positive as you will get there. <3
Also, Milo is actually a Cavapoo! (Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mixed)

Thanks to every one for the wholesome replies! I honestly wasn’t expecting this much of a response when I made my initial post, so I really appreciate it. Continue being amazing. 🧡

See, this is why representation is important.
I'm afraid I can't relate too much, seeing as how I'm straight, but it's great to hear you have found a character you can connect with and are now being true to yourself. I life ain't easy man; just keep pushing through one day at a time and you'll make it!
Internet hug from America! ❤️😊

Thank you, I've become much older and "wiser" as they say, so I am definitely in a happier place now. 🙂 I came out the other side with less people in my life but with people that truly loved me for who I am. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Also, I've never heard of a Cavapoo haha He is very adorable and he seems to have the best dad! <3

Yeah I don't have anything to contribute. Sorry kid.

AMAZING STORY, Thank you for sharing ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing your story. We truly do care. I am very sorry that that happened to you.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm so glad you can be your true authentic self now. Hiding can be so exhausting and draining physically, mentally and emotionally. David was such an amazing choice for this first step forward and I'm happy you feel even more connected too him <3

THIS is the exact reason I picked David as my main. I've always resonated with him on some level, and his recent lore really fleshed out his character and made me see a lot of myself in him. And while I can definitely understand why some people would've preferred someone more feminine, I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that his coming out story was "forced". A lot of people have to go through that denial phase (myself included) and sometimes it takes seeing something like this to make us go "You know what? Maybe this is who I am, and maybe it's not so bad."
I'm sure there will be other queer survivors in the future; representation is something BHVR takes close to heart, they've shown us that much.
Now I may not be from Manchester and quite honestly, I can't even read those quotes without twisting my tongue, but practice makes perfect.
And I'm happy to see so many other David mains, lord knows I don't find enough in my lobbies 💀
See you in the fog 💙

Henlo 👋
just leaving my two cents (pennies?) on the thread to continue the David love

I’m glad to hear that mate! I relate so much with what you said about having less people in your life now, but having people that love you for who you are, as that’s exactly what happened with me. For the first time in a long time I can honestly say that I’m happy with where I am in life and with the people I get to share new experiences with.
I hadn’t heard of Cavapoo’s until a few weeks before I got Milo but I fell in love with him immediately and definitely found the right breed for me. He’s amazing! <3

Good post. I am another gay DBD player btw, and I have to say that there are a lot of beats of David's story that ring true for a lot of gay men out there. Well done on this, Behavior.

It definitely wasn’t forced. One of the things I’ve seen said multiple times online is about how it came out of nowhere, but it didn’t. Just because we weren’t initially told David was gay, doesn’t mean he wasn’t gay. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Behaviour come up with in the future, but I’m personally glad that the first LGBT+ character wasn’t somebody new, because that could have potentially made it seem like that entire chapters identity was solely based on the fact that the survivor is LGBT+ and that’s not what we want. Being part of the LGBT+ community should be normalised and this is a great step in the right direction. Being able to go on a journey of self-discovery with a character many of us already love is amazing in my eyes.
There’s a great quote from a TV show I love called Orphan Black which is “My sexuality's not the most interesting thing about me” - which is a line that’s always stuck with me as it’s so true. Too many people expect members of the LGBT+ community to act and look a certain way and if you dare do something outside of what they would consider the ‘norm’ it blows their mind.
I just honestly find it crazy that some people think that your sexuality dictates who you are as a person when it’s only such a tiny part of your life. The fact companies are still called ‘woke’ for being inclusive is EXACTLY why it’s important for us to keep fighting for representation as showing REAL people in video games, movies and tv shows shouldn’t cause as much backlash as it does.
Sorry for the rant. 😅🧡

i heard a saying somewhere, but i'll paraphrase
"ultimately, you become the person who would've saved you when you needed them."
living true to yourself is the biggest flex you can do. much love friend
6 -
You’re definitely not wrong about it being physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting! I hate that there’s people still having to hide who they are out of fear of their own safety, but all we can truly hope is that with each generation people are becoming more and more accepting so that less kids are brought up thinking being part of the LGBT+ community is somehow wrong.

And thank you Adam for bringing autodidact into a match with Sloppy Butcher + Thanatophobia. Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear trench coats. 🧡
3 -
That’s a beautiful quote. Thanks for sharing that. <3
3 -
Exactly that! (All of it!) It makes me very happy that I picked him as my main years ago and stuck with him.
Now where are those shirtless Davids

Only just started to play dbd on Xbox and I love it, can't believe it's taken 6 years to finally play it. It's thanks to David King becoming gay going viral and I discovered the game. Anyways back to topic!!
Reading this has brought back memories for me, with coming to terms with being gay, questioning myself etc.I do relate to David King becoming gay and that he is British!! (Hello from Birmingham!!) and it's nice to have characters relate to. I feel I kinda relate also to Dwight Fairfield as I sort of look like him and have that geeky feel to me.
I do love that some fans have the vibe of David and Dwight are a thing and if they are... THEN AWESOME!
I'm glad you have David King to relate to and your story is amazing and glad you are a much happier now! Thank you for sharing it!
See you in the fog
PS Milo is beautiful and sooo fluffy

Love to read comments like this :)
if you ever have questions or anything about the game feel free to ask here kn the forums, there are plenty of helpful members.
also, this game isn’t really best known to be beginner friendly, leading to some frustrating experiences as well as wonderful ones once you get the hang of it. And there sadly are many toxic players. Don’t let those drag you down!

Thank you for sharing your lovely story, having those real life experiences I hope will make people think a little more about why it matters.
Thanks for sharing your lovely dog too and those arms #Thirst

This is the most wholesome thing I've seen on the forums for a while. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️

Hey! Welcome to the Forums :)
3 -
its helped me through quite alot in terms of mental health and just general daily life. Helped me really take hold of my positive role model position when i worked with kids.
2 -
Such a heartwarming and important post! This is why inclusion is necessary and I can only hope the negative ‘why does it matter’ people find and read this post to open their eyes 💕
4 -
Thanks for sharing also I agree I hope that the increase of LGBT representation in media will make it easier for youths to live their lives
3 -
I do not expect to come across a text as positive and speaking.
You fully understand what many of us have lived, live and will live.
The struggle continues even if it was enough that people grow to understand.
It's long and very random.
But we know our opponents ....

In case you're not on Twitter a DBD dev has made a tweet sharing your post. Thought you'd might like to know. :)
3 -
Not the only twitter account that did so 🕳️👩🏻🦯

First and for most i just want to THANK YOU for sharing your story. It wasnt just a beautiful story but a 'ah ha i can definitely relate to him...' It took me till i was 25yrs old to accept me for me and stop hiding by what I wasnt. I grew up in a military family and lets just say It wasnt 21yrs old when i moved out, but it was when i was 16yrs old turning 17yrs old when I was put out cause I was just never accepted. And when i came across your story i just wished during my teenage years that there was place with people like ourselfs who just wanted to be us and not someone were not. Sorry for the long reply. Your story just hit the soft spot in me.

That’s awesome! I didn’t know this information as I don’t have a Twitter account. Do you have a link to the tweet?
4 -
Also, I have read through all of the recent messages and I truly appreciate all of the kind words from everyone. It’s nice knowing that a lot of you were able to relate with my story. I honestly wasn’t expecting this much of a response and I’m genuinely taken aback. Thank you all. 🧡

The dev that shared you tweet was Almo
Also this one got pretty popular
5 -
Thanks for sharing! That’s really awesome. I know I’m sounding like a broken record but I genuinely wasn’t expecting such a big / positive response. It’s great to see!
6 -
Honestly I'm not. The community is in a continuous cycle of hatred and frustration, so the positive posts really stand out and catch attention.
And ik I am a random stranger on the Internet, but I've experienced quite a bit of ######### and I can relate to your post too quite a bit, so I wanna say I'm proud of you for accepting yourself and finding people you can be comfortable with ✨
3 -
there are some good people who play this game too.
2 -
I definitely agree with that, my comment wasn’t really aimed at the community as a whole. I just didn’t expect my thread to receive so much attention. I haven’t posted on here prior to this thread though, so I didn’t realise how active it was around here. Caught me off guard! 🤣
