The Onryo Buff Compendium
Hi guys, Sadako main here. I decided to create this post for creative ideas on how to improve our good old tv lady.
General issues:
1- Sadako power has counter play that has no penalty whatsoever. Both TVs and Condemns are so easy to counter it’s laughable and takes .5 seconds. Delivering a tape Can be done in sadako face.
2- She is bad at chase and a M1 killer.
3- Her “stealth” is not really a stealth and if you have heartbeat makes nothing.
4- Her teleport is too slow. She literally crawls from the tv.
5- Has the worst iridescent add on in the game.
6- The perks needed to make her competitive don’t allow much variety.
Onryo possible buffs:
- Built-in Aura Reveal Mechanic:
Currently, the iridescent tape is necessary for aura reveals, but it conflicts with her other strong add-ons. Consider giving her a base kit mechanic such as: Survivors at 3/6/Full Condemn scream and reveal their aura for 2 seconds. - Stronger Condemn Mechanic:
Survivors at full Condemn could suffer a penalty such as:Being injured automatically.
Becoming Exposed until the Condemn is cleared.
Preventing Condemn cleansing entirely at full stacks. - Condemn Sharing with Nearby Survivors:
Survivors carrying a tape share a stack of Condemn to nearby survivors every 20 seconds. - Hindered by Cursed Tape:
Survivors carrying a tape suffer a 5% Hindered status every 20 seconds until they deliver the tape. - Subtle Lullaby:
Adjust Sadako's lullaby to make it less pronounced and more subtle, increasing her stealth potential. - Pallet Lock Mechanic:
When a survivor reaches 3/6/Full Condemn, 1/2/3 nearby pallets become temporarily locked. - Condemn During Chase:
While in chase, survivors passively gain Condemn stacks every 15-20 seconds. - Improved Add-Ons:
Add-ons should synergize with her power and encourage creative builds. Introduce a consistent aura reveal add-on to complement perks like Lethal Pursuer. - Speed Buff from Condemn:
For every 3 Condemn stacks across all survivors, Sadako gains a 5% Haste boost. - Tape Turn-In Mechanics:
Make tape delivery more challenging:Introduce a skill check for delivery.
Increase delivery time to 10-20 seconds.
Scale delivery time with Condemn stacks (e.g., 3 stacks = 10 seconds, full = 20). - Sadako Empowered by Cleansed Condemn:
Every time a survivor delivers a tape, Sadako gains:+1% Haste.
Increased attack lunge range, vaulting speed, or pallet-breaking speed. - Passing Through Obstacles:
Sadako can phase through pallets and windows while de-manifested. - Condemn Visual Effects:
Condemn causes visual and audio distortions, fake apparitions, or difficult skill checks, similar to Doctor's mechanics. - Ranged Attack with Condemn:
Every 3 Condemn stacks on a survivor could grant Sadako a short-ranged attack, similar to the Haunted by Daylight event mechanic. - Enhanced Invisibility:
Sadako's intermittent invisibility grows stronger against cursed survivors:1 stack = 3 seconds.
Full Condemn = 10 seconds of invisibility during chase. - Directionless Lullaby:
Make Sadako's lullaby non-directional while reducing its audible range. - Repair Speed Penalty:
Condemned survivors repair generators more slowly, with the penalty scaling with Condemn stacks. - Mangled and Hemorrhage on Tape Holders:
Survivors hit while carrying a tape suffer Mangled and Hemorrhage. - Projection Copy Mechanic:
After projecting to a TV, Sadako leaves a static image of herself for 3 seconds. She can return to this copy within that timeframe. - Passive Condemn from Tape Holding:
Survivors passively gain Condemn stacks while carrying a tape. - Cursed TV Mechanic:
Sadako can “curse” a TV every 30 seconds. Cursed TVs:Reveal the aura of survivors within 16m.
Allow faster, undetectable teleportation. - Terror Radius Transfer:
Hitting a survivor carrying a tape transfers Sadako’s terror radius to them for 30 seconds.
These changes aim to enhance Sadako's pressure, stealth, and utility, making her Condemn mechanic more threatening and viable without relying solely on add-ons or meta perks.
I would love to hear more options. Of course I am not asking for every idea to be implemented, but it would be nice giving her a buff. These are just ideas.
Thanks

There are good ideas, some random ones and many that feel really out of character for her.
- Some type of tracking mechanic would be cool honestly.
- Makes no sense for me. She got the mori and that is what condemned is supposed to be. We don’t need a mix of plague and Sadako.
- Not a fan. Being screwed over by teammates, that don’t understand it, would be extremely unfun.
- I would prefer passive condemned by holding onto tapes making a return over this.
- Yes, her lullaby needs improvements
- I like the idea, but how would it work for your teammates?
- Completely against it. It would only lead to unfair tunneling situations.
- I agree her addons could be better, but I don’t get what you want in the second part.
- I never liked this on the skull merchant, so I won’t like it on her.
- Really random. 20s for putting tapes in is too much, but it should take longer like 2s instead of one second.
- So you mean putting in the tape takes longer the more stacks you have. Not a fan of it. It would be incredibly unfun to play against her when you have to sit in front of a TV for ages.
- Her condemned is only for the mori, it feels out of character to give her such buffs.
- Unsure
- Unsure about the visual and audio distortions, sudden fake apparitions. Not a fan of the skill check part, that’s doctors power.
- Completely out of character
- I think it should be buffed, but not in that way.
- Basically passive condemned by holding onto tapes like in her first version. I’m all for it.
- Doesn’t fit this character.
0 -
That’s the things I want.
Chase flicker buffs
- The otherworld visible duration gets reduced to 1s or 1,2s (was1,5s)
- The lullaby radius and terror radius decreased to 18m (was 24m), which also changes the threshold of full invisibility and remove the directional part of the lullaby
- In Sadakos post manifest flicker the red stain is hidden or she is undetectable for the flickering duration (new)
- She flickers for 4s after crawling out of an TV (new)
- Demanifest flicker and manifest flicker get the same values, which means she is invisible for 1,2s after manifesting like when she is in demanifested.
- Her invisibility does not deactivate through breaking pallets and vaulting windows (new)
Teleport/chase buff:
- Removal of TV auras
- Tape insertion speed and the speed for turning off TVs is 1,5-2s (was 0,5s/1s)
- TVs no longer turn off after projection (was 45s/iri tape basekit), but they go on a 30s long condemned cooldown. Which means: you are still able to teleport towards them, but they don’t spread condemned while on cooldown.
A revert to some aspects of her first version with some condemned changes
- Passive condemned: Every 25s of holding a tape you get 1 stack condemned
- Only one TV spreads condemned (was all TVs)
- Condemned gets spread in a 20-24m range (was 16m)
- Hooking a survivor gives all other survivors 1 stack of condemned (new/ring drawing basekit)
- Hooking locks all condemned stacks in (was 3)
- (Every 60-80s survivors without a tape receive a stack of condemned, when survivors take a tape this timer is paused)
Addon changes
🔴Iri videotape: Hitting a Survivor within 8 seconds after Manifesting turns on the last 1 TV turned off (partially reverted) + Sadako can tp to a turned off TV, which activates it afterwards again, she does not spread condemned when teleporting to a turned off TV 📺 (new)
🟣 Telephone: Survivors suffer from a -7% (was -3%) hindered Status Effect for 3 seconds when Manifesting within 7 metres of them.
🟢Ring drawing: Condemned Survivors spread their Condemnation to other Survivors, who complete a Healing action on an injured Survivor (revert)
🟢Rickety pinwheel: Survivors suffer from the obvious effect and hear no lullaby (new), when within 12-16m (was 8m) of any TV. This effect lingers for 1 second (new). When turning the TV off, the addons range halved (new).
🟡Sea-soaked cloth: Survivors suffer from the blindness Status effect when within 12-16m (was 8m) of any TV (was only turned on TVs). This effect lingers for 1s (new). When turning the TV off, the addons range is halved (new).
🟡 Yoichis fishing net: Reduces the time it takes Survivors to acquire another stack of Condemned by -12 % when holding a tape (revert)
⚪️ Newspaper: Increases the duration of your full Invisibility after Manifesting and while being demanifasted by +33 %.
🟡 Clumb of hair: Reduces the threshold for full Invisibility while Demanifasted by 8m (was 6m) and this effect lingers for 1s (new)
🟢 Well water: Every time a generator gets completed every survivor receives a stack of condemned
🟡 Well stone: The haste from protection gets turned into hinderd and given to survivors for the duration of the speed in a 16m range of the TV
⚪️ Cabin sign: Hitting a survivor breaks their tape
🟡 Reikos watch: At the start of a match she crawls out of a TV next to a survivor and the TVs are not on a 30s long cooldown
Sadako’s Perks
Floods of rage
At the start of the Trial, 4 random Hooks are changed into Scourge Hooks: The auras of Scourge Hooks are revealed to you in white.
Each time a Survivor is hooked on a scourge hook (new) or unhooked from a Scourge Hook, the following effects apply: The Auras of all other Survivors are revealed for 5/6/7 seconds.
Call of brine:
After damaging a generator this perk becomes active for 60s.
The generator regresses at 155% (was 125%) of the normal progression speed and you can see its aura in yellow.
Each time a Survivor completes a good skill check on a generator affected by this perk, you receive a loud noise notification.
Merciless storm:
Whenever a generator reaches 90% progress, survivors working on the generator will be faced with continuous skill checks. If they miss or stop repairing the generator is blocked by the entity for 20s. This effect can trigger on the same generator after a cooldown of 60 seconds again (was can only trigger once).

Thanks for the comments.
I do believe that a full condemned survivor should suffer some kind of debuff. It’s balanced because it means that survivor ignored the mechanic and progressed objectives the whole time.
I kinda like the 16, just trying to polish the idea, if her intermittent invisibility grows in power, she could have better chasing power, would make her unique in the sense that she could mind game survivors during loops and such. Would also be damn scary. It would bring a new way to anti loop, instead of dashing or vaulting or whatever, she could just mind game more efficiently. I’m all for that.

If you press the quote button under the comments others will get a notification.
16: 1.5s of invisibility is already quite useful and strong and 3s or more would be unfair. The problem is the invisibility is bugged and only last around 0.7-0.8s, which is nothing. It is supposed to be 1.2s, which is okey and with an addon you can make it 1.5s (if it wasn’t bugged).
0 -
Thanks for the input yet I don’t think that’s very helpful. “It’s fine but it’s bugged”. I think that the most common complain on Sadako is that she is just an m1 killer with cero chasing and anti loop capabilities. I think we are up to something here. That intermittent invisibility would make her unique. It would work as a chase tool but in a very unique way. Those mind games sound like super fun. Imagine being chased but suddenly she disappearing and appearing on the other side of the pallet etc, I’m not saying maker her a spirit or a bat Dracula, just pair it with tape or condemn and it would be so much fun.
0 -
I didn’t say it’s fine, but bugged. I only said the duration with 1.5s is fine. The basekit isn’t good and I agree it should be buffed, but your suggestion would make her almost permanently invisible and this wouldn’t be liked by the majority to play against.
My suggestions (if you are interested to read it) above make the flicker happen more often, which makes her less long visible as well, removing the red stain after manifesting and making the invisibility a bit longer post manifesting. In the end you could make her invisible last around 1.6s with newspaper, which is enough and actually good.
0 -
I dont mean like a permanent thing, just flickers the more condemn survivors have, up to idk, 3 seconds or something. The reality is that ANYTHING to make her a bit stronger works, I am not married to any idea, just tossing everything I can come up with.
A very simple buff would be the aura reveal basekit, tied with condem or tape or something, because in her actual state it´s very very much needed to run perks that give no information whatsoever.
Lethal pursuer is great on her, but just by itself, withouit having something to give it more value is awful.

Hi BH, how about something very simple: give Sadako a reliable information mechanic, the iridescent control is not good enough. Any survivor working on a gen is going to have the tv turned off, it’s basically an add on that only works for survivors sleeping or doing anything but the objective. Also well, by the time you teleport you get 2 seconds of aura reading or simply won’t help because the survivor has left the range.
She should have an aura reveal paired with condemn. It would allow better perk selection, which is one of her low points. You are very limited choosing perks for her because is either, gen regress or a chase helper, no room for information.
Incredibly, her best information perk is face the darkness, which offers very little reward for the possibility to cleanse it in the first minute of the game. A small information perk or a buff to the add on would greatly help.

i would like that her underworld invisibility be reduced to 0.5 seconds and her invisibility duration reduced to 0.75 seconds but her linger invisibility duration increased to 1.5 seconds with her visibility duration increased to 1.2 seconds. some chase capacity would go long way into making her worth while to play.

1st Iteration of Sadako back. Today's buffs. That's all. Super Simple. That's all I want.
Current Sadako as much as I love her is so boring. Spam TV's before survivors get them. Its the fight over tapes.
2 -
this please, I don't want her to become an uninteractable mess to make up for their bad design of her.

Hopefully one day we get our little ghost back

She’s a devil in the “underworld” 😂.
Just swapping those numbers (like you did) would make her flickers a lot better. Hope we see it one day.

@Vishlumbra - I would like to add something here to your valuable post, if I may. ☝🏼
Since Sadako was rework back in January - if there is one thing that is consistent, it’s the feedback given since regarding Sadako.
Almost every week, there has been a post regarding Sadako in one form or another all pointing to the fact that she is flawed and riddled with various issues.
I hope or would like to hope that BHVR has seen this. Multiple post every single month. The support she gets is amazing. ❤️0 -
1. Buffing Condemned Mechanic
The Condemned mechanic is underutilized because survivors can easily reduce stacks by removing tapes, making it nearly irrelevant in most matches. Buffs should make Condemned a viable threat without being oppressive:
- Condemned Decay Delay:
- Survivors’ Condemned stacks should not decay for 10–15 seconds after removing a tape, making it riskier to interact with TVs excessively.
- Increased Condemned Stack Gain:
- Survivors gain an additional 1 stack of Condemned whenever Sadako teleports to a TV within a 12-meter radius of them. This rewards Sadako for strategic teleportation.
- Punishment for Tape Removal:
- When survivors insert a tape, they become Exposed for 15–20 seconds, adding risk to removing Condemned stacks.
2. Improved Map Control
While Sadako’s teleportation is useful, it’s limited by TV placement, cooldowns, and survivor interaction. Enhancing her ability to control the map would boost her pressure:
- Faster TV Cooldown:
- Reduce TV cooldown after teleportation from 100 seconds to 70 seconds, allowing for more frequent teleports.
- Increased Teleport Speed:
- Reduce the time it takes to teleport to a TV, making it faster and less predictable for survivors.
- Teleportation Bonus:
- After teleporting to a TV, Sadako should gain a 5% haste bonus for 6 seconds, improving her ability to initiate chases effectively.
3. Enhanced Chase Potential
Sadako struggles in chases due to her lack of anti-loop abilities. Buffs here should maintain her stealthy nature while making her more threatening in loops:
- Demanifest Speed Bonus:
- While demanifested, increase Sadako’s movement speed to 115% (4.6 m/s), matching most killers. This would make her more threatening when sneaking up on survivors.
- Manifestation Speed Buff:
- Decrease the time it takes to manifest from 1.5 seconds to 1.0 seconds, allowing her to engage in chases more fluidly.
- Post-Manifest Slowdown:
- Survivors within 8 meters of Sadako when she manifests suffer a 5% hindered status effect for 3 seconds, making looping her slightly harder.
4. TV and Passive Pressure Enhancements
The TVs are central to Sadako’s power, but survivors can easily exploit their predictable placements and cooldowns. Buffs here could make her passive playstyle more oppressive:
- Undetectable Zone:
- While demanifested, survivors within 16 meters of a TV experience Oblivious (cannot hear her terror radius), even if Sadako is not teleporting. This reinforces her stealth potential.
- Disable TV Punishment:
- If survivors disable a TV by removing a tape, Sadako should receive a killer instinct notification showing their location.
5. QoL Changes
Small tweaks can improve her playability without overhauling her mechanics:
- Condemned HUD Indicator:
- Sadako can see each survivor’s Condemned progress, allowing her to strategize more effectively.
- Faster Interaction with TVs:
- Reduce the delay when teleporting to a TV or reactivating a disabled TV.
Potential Buff Example:
Reworked Condemned Mechanic:
- Survivors gain 1 Condemned stack whenever Sadako teleports to a TV within 12 meters of them.
- Removing a tape now inflicts the Exposed status effect for 20 seconds.
- Condemned stacks do not decay for 15 seconds after removing a tape.
TV Enhancements:
- Reduce TV cooldown from 100 seconds to 70 seconds.
- After teleporting to a TV, Sadako gains a 5% haste bonus for 6 seconds.
Chase Buffs:
- While demanifested, Sadako moves at 115% speed (4.6 m/s).
- Manifestation speed reduced to 1.0 seconds.
- Survivors within 8 meters of her upon manifestation are hindered for 3 seconds.
How These Changes Improve Her Competitiveness
- Condemned Becomes a Real Threat: Survivors must carefully balance removing tapes with their objectives, adding strategic depth.
- Increased Map Pressure: Faster cooldowns and more effective teleportation make her harder to predict.
- Better Chase Presence: Movement speed buffs and hindered effects make her more viable in loops, mitigating her current weakness in 1v1 chases.
- Maintains Stealthy Playstyle: Her buffs would not compromise her identity as a stealth-based killer, keeping her unique within the roster.

This is an example of a final version:
Condemned Curse Enhancement
Base Kit Change:
• When a survivor reaches 3 stacks of Condemn, their aura is revealed for 3 seconds.
• When a survivor reaches 6 stacks of Condemn, their movement speed is reduced by 3% until the stacks are reduced.
• When a survivor reaches Full Condemn, they become Exposed for 20 seconds.Add-on Adjustments
- VCR (Rare)
o Increases the time it takes for survivors to deliver a tape by 25%. - Iridescent Videotape (Ultra Rare)
o When a survivor with a tape is within 16 meters of another survivor, the nearby survivor gains 1 Condemn stack every 15 seconds.
TV Interaction Buff
• Survivors interacting with TVs take 2 seconds longer to turn them off, giving Sadako slightly more time to capitalize on her teleportation.
• After teleporting to a TV, The Onryō is Undetectable for an additional 4 seconds (up from 3).And fix the inivisibilty bug :P
0 - VCR (Rare)
-
P100 Onryo here.
Firstly, she's had a bug since her last rework ages ago where her intermittent invisible is not lasting even close to how long it's supposed to, so that needs fixing first. It's been reported by me in bugs for a very long time and seems to be ignored.
One of her biggest issues is that there's no downsize or negative to taking tapes. You could do passive Condemn as an option. I personally preferred the system where hits would destroy tapes and give Condemn instead though. Both would work but the second option only rewards Onryo's who play well instead of being free. Also it gives her counter play to tapes. Currently other than a hook you have no counter play to tape drop offs and they can literally insert it in your face. Such bad design.
^^ That right there is her main issue and if we did nothing else, that's what she needs.
Now smaller but still important issues:
There should be zero slow down while Manifesting. If Demanifested had really that much of a benefit or she had a speed boost like Wraith this slow down would make sense, but she doesn't. The slow down just isn't warranted for how pitiful it is.
Remove the lullaby while Demanifested. What is the point of being Undetectable when it tells them where you're at anyway? It doesn't. Illogical. It's a stealth that doesn't stealth you. You aren't moving faster while Demanifest, getting a speed burst coming out, and it has a cast to Manifest for them to have time to react. If you're going to keep it, at least make it only visible at like very high stacks of Condemn when they're in high danger. Currently it doesn't serve its intended purpose. Bad design.
Remove the global sound queue that tells them when you teleport. This defeats the entire point of having skill and watching your surroundings. You can't mind game with teleport mid chase if it telegraphs every single bit of it to the other player.
Addon Issues:
She has quite a few addons that were built around her old kit that weren't updated after her rework so they make no sense.
Iridescent Videotape - So, so bad. I'd rather this actually be useful but if we're going for meme game play changes reduce TV turn on time significantly and make all TV auras not shown to survivors when using this. Since they can no longer gain Condemn, this shouldn't matter.
Telephone - 3% Hindered is utterly irrelevant and for only 3 seconds. Needs much better numbers to matter. Higher slow, longer duration.
Tape Editing Deck - No longer start them with a tape and now also shows their auras when turning off TVs. This is the noob trap addon that people think is good, but is actually very bad. Starting them with a tape is very bad. It helps them to immediately start shutting TVs off. Currently your main goal is to prevent them from getting a tape in the first place because right now we have zero counter play once they get a tape.
Distorted Photo - Remove the "witness" part. Makes it useless.
Ring Drawing - This literally should have been in her base kit, what are we doing. If we add tape destruction on hit this becomes irrelevant but if we aren't adding that, this is absolutely necessary.
All of the aura around turned on TV addons - This needs to be "turned off" TVs. If you are keeping lots of TVs on you are playing bad and if you're playing good this is doing like nothing. Lose/Lose. Also the ranges are way too short. Bump the range around turned off TVs by like 50%.
Remote Control - Alright this is one of her best addons. Not running this makes you significantly weaker. I honestly feel like this should just be base kit because no matter what other addons get as far as changes this should never leave your preset, it's basically required if you want the best chance at winning.
In general her kill rate is very artificially inflated from people ignoring her mechanics or just not knowing what to do. It makes her look a lot better than she actually is. This is why her kill rate is high but basically everyone puts her in garbage tier.
