Killer behaviour is appalling during events
Comments
-
I just play through the Tome, then I'm done. I had fun with Chaos Shuffle the first time for about a week, messing around with weird perk loadouts while everyone else was messing around with the weird perk loadouts, and then people started playing for real and it's like, "Well, I can do that in normal mode and there I get to choose my perks, so why would I stick around here?" And that was that. I play Chaos Shuffle for the Tome and then I'm done. It doesn't even have queue bonuses to try to boost the garbage amount of Bloodpoints rewarded.
I kinda hope the event queue does get filled with bots. It'd be hilarious. That's the great thing about video games, you can stop playing whenever and let the problems become someone else's problem rather than let them be your own. If you keep getting slugging killers and you don't enjoy playing against them, let those killers become other survivors' problem. And then those survivors can do the same. And soon the killers will be waiting forever in queue or slugging bots.
As someone who's complained on the forum for six years about console performance, I have little faith that complaining on the forums works. Maybe forcing the queue to be filled with bots will mean something to someone.
Oh god, that's really jaded and cynical, isn't it. Sorry, I had a lot of fun during the Bone Chill event. I miss it. Lights Out 2.0 had the amazing candles. We no longer get the beautiful Lunar New Year event. Chaos Shuffle offers nothing. And 2v8 was fun the first time but not the second. Kinda feels like there's nothing to enjoy or look forward to in DbD right now.

I feel really sorry for you because no one deserves this and it is still sad that the developers have nothing announced about it like how or that they will fix this issue - but I am sure they working on a solution.
I really hope your next matches will be better because that was one player. There are many other killers who play this game modifier
8 -
Thanks I appreciate it. I just switched to playing killer for now. Will try survivor again tomorrow I think. Currently levelling up Houndmaster.
10 -
IT took me 3 games to disturb 20 crows. That's laughable. Last game someone working with killer. Why can't they do stuff to improve quality of life?
6 -
I feel for you OP, the game has gotten so much worse with killers who dismiss the fact that it's a group activity and don't care the least bit about anyone else's experience. It's appalling selfish behavior.
Plus if they're so skilled, they shouldn't need to slug in the first place. Just slows down the game and makes everyone miserable.
Between this and how the devs are treating people after the Junji Ito fiasco, makes me not want to play anymore.9 -
That's probably why they're doing it extra hard in the shuffle. They know they can get away with it without any anti tunnel repercussions.
5 -
Honestly I could say the same thing about survivors in that 2nd part. If survivors are so skilled they shouldn't need to run exhaustion or 2nd chance perks. But the reality is people still do because of the huge advantages it provides. Now obviously not all this is possible in Chaos Shuffle but thats the point of an Asymm. Some things are possible no matter what.
3 -
We do know how it occurred. Survivors used to be able to permanently sabotage hooks. There was a time in DbD history when this type of slugging was necessary. That was many years ago, and that isn't the case now.
This type of slugging has only become prevalent over the last few months. Hot button issues generally get addressed within a few patch cycles over the last few years.
I know they don't care. That's irrelevant. Sometimes you have to treat children like children and take their toys away.
11 -
>This type of slugging has only become prevalent over the last few months
Not sure if you're living through Groundhog Day but this stuff has been going on for years.
I took a break, came back and said "Neat, literally nothing at all has changed"

Eh, I generally agree with you here but slugging (particularly the excessive sort) has spiked recently. I chalk it up to the fact that its efficacy or lack thereof has become a talking point, and invariably when that happens, people lean into whatever it is, at least for a while. Make a few YT vids about a small thing, and then it becomes a big thing. Monkey see, monkey do.
Even with that being the case, I still see it in decided minority of my matches, though that rate is still well above what I had experienced up until recently. For years being party to a four person bleedout was like a semiannual event for me. It's been like once or twice a week as of late.
But it will likely pass organically and be replaced by a new annoying fad, and so on. And as you say, nothing substantive is going to be done about it regardless.
Sad, pathetic people will continue to be so, and there's really nothing to be done for it. And I also believe that some people come out of the woodwork to play grinch during events.
9 -
To be honest you could use this as a justification for anything. "Oh no, the chef who serves food served food." But the food was raw.
The existence of a role doesn’t justify/excuse every action that can be taken within it.
16 -
I don't know. I feel like DbD players just lack life experience in general. Play any game in real life in an annoying way and people aren't going to want to play with you. They're not going to play a different game. They're going to tell you to leave. This is no different.
10 -
They either don't think it's common enough to be an issue, or are scared what solving the problem could entail in terms of adverse effects. They are probably super worried about trying to fix slugging like this because the last anti-slugging solution they tried resulted in a lot of wasted dev time because of how flawed it ended up being.
Either way, these cases need to be solved regardless. It's borderline griefing.
4 -
I completely agree. I think this can only push the game in an even worse direction if people push to invalidate the SoloQ experience. Everyone acknowledges that SoloQ is bad, but there’s this expectation for players to just accept that it’s bad. While there are different ways to address why/how to fix it, the bottom line is that SoloQ has to be made appealing enough for people to want to keep playing it. Otherwise, the alternative is that fewer players will play Solo, and everyone will gravitate toward SWF.
We already see plenty of people on these forums saying they only play Survivor as part of an SWF, and that shift will just lead to more matches that killers dread. But this raises an important question: What incentive does a player have to choose SoloQ over SWF? Why should anyone opt for Solo when SWF is clearly the more optimal experience? The way the game has been evolving, it feels like it’s only pushing players further toward SWF due to the state of Solo, and that’s a dangerous path for overall balance.
We shoud want people to play Solo. Without it, the game becomes much more difficult to balance.
10 -
Those are….not the same at all??
I'm talking about people that are taking the game hostage and ruining the experience for others on purpose. People that want to make the shared activity miserable can do so without penalty (since the devs haven't bothered to prevent it). That's completely a separate thing than bringing perks.7 -
But I call going against second chance perks miserable and even then if I don't tunnel the games are 5 minutes which are also miserable. As I see it they are the same. Its just survivors have better counters to slugging compared to most of the killer roster vs second chance and exhaustion. Also slugging/bleeding out is not holding the game hostage.
1 -
Okay…I don't know what you're on about but thanks for letting me know you're one of the people I don't want to ever play with.
Sounds like an excuse just to play how you want regardless of other people. Half the time, I just let people go when I get 8 hooks and then mess around so everyone gets to have some fun. Even if I'm adepting/playing more seriously, I've never needed to tunnel just to win.
If everyone has to slap very specific perks on their build just to counter a certain thing, that sucks out the core fun of getting to make your own build in the first place. Killers don't need perks to tunnel/slug—they can have NO perks and still do it. Going out of my way to tunnel/slug destroys the game for everyone else. It's taking the experience hostage in favor of only my experience which isn't fair. Where's the fun in that?
These things are NOT the same.11 -
I was coming to see if people were having similar experiences. This is my 2nd match on, the last one I got tunneled out lol.
14 -
Its because you let people go and don't play to win which a lot of the community does the opposite of. You get 8 hooks then the survivors escape lowering your MMR. Also you talk about fair in an Asymmetrical game. The very definition of "fair" in a game like this is very VERY loose. It's a 4v1 where the people in the 4v1 usually equate to the 1 person. But in my experience its more like a 1.5:1 because of how efficient survivors can be. Also why are we using the phrase "Sounds like an excuse to just play how you want regardless of other people"? It's a Player vs Player game my own fun comes first which fun is subjective sure but I ain't no babysitter.
You find tunneling and slugging (efficient ways to play) to be miserable to go against as survivor while I find Exhaustion and 2nd chances (also efficient ways to play) miserable to go against. They quite literally are the same.
2 -
That sucks. Please don't take this as me trying to justify this in any way, I'm just curious. It looks like all gens were done and the killer didn't hook once. Were they slugging all match like this or did they just go postal at the end?
0 -
I dont know every perk
None of this is to rag on you, but you can actually check and see what your perks do.
While ingame, you can press Esc (or whatever Controller bind is the equivalent) and in the player list, at the bottom right of the screen, it displays all your perks. You can hover your cursor over them (applies to PC and Console) to see what they do.
Here is an example:
If you ever forget or doubt what your perks do, you can check anytime. It's a really helpful tip to know. :D

At some point we have to stop complaining about killers doing this and survivors doing that and just hold BHVR accountable.
One of the jobs of the developers and the balancing team is protecting people from themselves and others. They should know people are gonna behave like this and put mechanics into place so this doesn't happen.
They should introduce the self-pick up already. And once that mechanic gets inevitably abused (because there's awful people on both sides of the player base, it's just unavoidable) then fix, patch or introduce a mechanic specifically added to prevent the previous one being abusable.
We can't just have this conversation every event. "Wow, killer players are awful", "Wow, survivor players are awful"… no, gamers are awful. This community is full of people who don't play to win but to annoy others. This is unavoidable, but it's BHVR's job to prevent this from happening to the best of their abilities.
We can't just trash talk the other side into submission because then nobody yields and nothing ever gets fixed.
15 -
Thanks for reinforcing my previous statement and showing you don't understand how a group activity works.
You are literally part of the problem this game is having, has nothing to do with being a "babysitter". This is exactly why BHVR needs to implement fixes for things like this because slugging/tunneling aren't how you play the game. It never was supposed to be. People just took advantage of it because they never did anything to fix it.
Sounds like you don't want to have fun, you just want to win. And if you step on people's toes while doing it doesn't matter to you. The game ain't just about you winning, everyone's here to play. Don't be surprised when people don't want to play with you if this is what you do when the fun is supposed to be shared.5 -
Agreed. The community can argue til the cows come home but bottom line is it's up to the devs to deal with this stuff. If something is driving people away then yes, there's a problem and yes it needs addressing.
3 -
Honestly…yeah…I agree.
1 -
You can't just call it "group activity" like this game is something one off special. EVERY PVP GAME IS A GROUP ACTIVITY. No fixed need to be made because tunneling and slugging is only as powerful as the survivors let it be in a majority of cases. Also interesting how you say slugging and tunneling aren't supposed be how you play the game… when its literally the killers objective to kill. And playing by that rule book of "give everyone a chance" like a lot of people suggest is what will kill the game. Also the ONLY thing dbd really needs is an actual communication system for solo Q because survivors have more than enough tools to not go down in chase.
Also I do like having fun but fun is subjective. Winning is fun for me especially after when I'm constantly getting out perked instead of outskilled. If survivors are clearly meming around sure I will join in but survivors playing the game is also me just playing the game when I do what I need to win. Or is it just uh "survivors just trying to survive" and "sweaty killer".1 -
Here's the issue… this isn't just bad Killer Behavior.
It's bad Survivor Behavior too.
Both sides are being absolute ######### to each other, they do every event, and it's always at the start of it because that's when the event lurkers return. It ruins events for everyone and forces everyone to play sweatier, yet BHVR insists on doing these at the start of the season and not just doing it after rank re-sweat is over… why? I do not know. I genuinely don't know.
But Entity help me I am tired of slugging, tunnelling, four gen perks, and genrush toolboxes with SWF-sided map offerings every. Single. Match at the start of events.
1 -
They have to create a new game mode, because doing the same thing over and over with breaks in between being so small, that it's not it
1 -
All I have gathered from this thread:
1. Killers can/will/do abuse game mechanics to get a 4k by any means, or to just generally annoy opponents because they can. Except for those who don't use DBD as a way to take out their anger on the world.
2. If survivors fail to survive it's only for a lack of skill because the game mechanics are designed so that a killer can/will/do abuse them to get a 4k by any means.
3. Devs will never regulate the abuse of game mechanics and are going to supply bots in the queue to keep killers happy because killers are more important than survivors.
4. You're not allowed to view any killers or survivors as inherently cruel griefers because that's how the game mechanics work.
11 -
I say all the time i WISH they would create a mode that allows survivors to actually fight back. In real life I'd be picking up the closest thing I could grab to beat a killer with. Like a DBD battle royal would be EPIC.

All match
2 -
Quick question... and please don't take this the wrong way
Did you wait at least 5 minutes after the first match before starting the queue up again...
And I have nothing to say on the Plauge match screenshot
I have only played 1 match in CS as Killer and I only ended up with 1 Kill that came with the EGC
But it seems that Killer players have become used to the Perks they use and want to "win" (and little can be done about that... and I am 1 of them minus the "winning" part) so throwing them 4 random Perks doesn't end well
1 -
Hi friend, let's make this less needlessly us vs. them friend! Because Us vs. Them hurts us all!
What cna be gathered from this thread:
1) Players on both sides can/will/do abuse game mechanics to get a win by any means, or generally annoy opponents because they can.
2) If a player fails to win, it's only for a lack of skill because the game unfortunately allows people to abuse game mechanics to get a win by any means.
3) Devs are trying their hardest to regulate game mechanics abuse, but the players keep finding new ways to abuse new bugs, meaning this is a whackamole situation, and nobody is inherently valued more than anyone else in the game regardless of role or opinion.
4) You're not allowed to view people who abuse glitches and unintended combos as griefers because people like to win.
See? Much better when you don't blame one side for every evil in the game, because we all suffer when people abuse things to tilt the scales in their favor. Not just Survivors. Please take a break from the game.

Did you wait at least 5 minutes after the first match before starting the queue up again...
No, and at that point it wouldn’t even be worth playing. If I’m spending 4 minutes on the ground and 5 minutes waiting (plus time for match making and loading) that’s over 10 minutes wasted before I can hop into another match just to try and avoid griefers.
Plus, what difference does it make anyways? The 3rd match was against a different person doing the exact same thing.
7 -
But if you were able to avoid playing the second match you wouldn't have been in a mood
Also do you play Killer???
0 -
Nothing to do with being in a “mood”. I just value my time and won’t entertain it being wasted so flagrantly. Whether I’m being slugged for 4 minutes or spending 5 minutes waiting between matches to avoid the slugging, these griefers have still succeeded in wasting my time. It’s a lose-lose situation.
Not that it’s relevant either, but yes, I’m a killer main.
9 -
You do you I guess... I thought of just giving you a suggestion but that didn't work...
0 -
I appreciate the thought, but “wait 5 minutes between matches to avoid killers wasting your time for 4 minutes” isn’t really a viable solution.
9 -
Honestly it's not then4 minutes you spend on the ground that are wasted it was the the time you spent in the match before you were downed
Have you play CS as Killer and what were your experiences like???
0 -
Have you play CS as Killer and what were your experiences like???
Yeah, been playing and levelling Houndmaster. There was one match I lost because a survivor had Power Struggle, which took me by surprise. Other than that my matches have been mostly 3Ks.
7 -
I have to add, I jumped on for my first game of the mode within minutes of it starting (that is 3am my time BTW) and my first game was a Dracula who also decided they would start slugging us at 5 gens… because, reasons?
I left the match and went and played something else instead.
DBD is getting harder and harder to have fun in as a solo queue survivor now.
13 -
I left the match and went and played something else instead
I feel that. Playing solo queue really feels like a huge dice roll on whether or not you’ll have a good time. It’s got to the point where most of my solo queue games are unpleasant for one reason or another (killers griefing, teammates giving up, bad maps, poor matchmaking, etc.), and I’m starting to question whether I want to keep playing that role at all.
Killer is much more consistent for me. Yeah, I get a frustrating match every once in a while, but most of them are plain sailing (at least compared to the solo queue experience).
9 -
Yep I hear you, I would play killer but I simply don't enjoy it so I all but stopped playing killer a year ago, other than rare exceptions.
This was my first match back after taking a few days off to detox my soul from DBD (lol) so yeah, not a welcome return. Really struggling to have fun even with the event so maybe its time to take a very long break and let things get balanced out a bit better for solo survivor before I return.
5 -
yep it’s time for….
Bhvr to team up with Nintendo and give us dbd Mario kart
3 -
I'm more concerned about the quality of my solo queue teammates. All of my matches have been terrible because of the actions and decisions taken by my own team
2 -
Comedy gold.

You missed my point. My findings were based on the way everyone here was speaking about the situation. It made me giggle more than anything because it's how ever discussion about gameplay goes.
You're not wrong that both sides abuse the game. But I think you are wrong about devi working to fix all these concerns, especially since some concerns have only been made worse by their updates.
0 -
That's kind of the point? Everyone is here to play, not have their time ruined by being stuck bleeding out for 5 minutes just because a crappy killer wanted a win and was willing to make the game miserable for it.
It's not about "giving everyone a chance" I want to play the game how it's supposed to be played, using perks, killer power etc. I can still get points by not being a jerk and ruining it for others. I don't need to tunnel to win either.
Tunnel/slugging can be done without perks. Camping can be done without perks. While for survivors they have to sacrifice their builds to always bring Unbreakable, Decisive etc. or be at the mercy of a crappy killer where they don't get to play. Again, where's the fun in that? It's a problem that people can throw the core gameplay out the window, not learn how to play, and still win. It's clear it was never meant to be a thing, people just abuse it for their own means and the devs have needed to do something about it for the past several years.
Also if you're willing to resort to doing scummy things just to win, you do care more about winning than having fun. You are the sweaty killer.8
