For those that have triggers or phobias in this game, what do you do?

I was curious what people did for situations in games where their triggers/phobias are at? I used to not play until a group invited me for custom matches due to me having a phobia of both clowns and dolls, so the killers clown and chucky freak me out. Been playing public for events and the such now. I usually have to afk and take my headphones off for these situations because my phobia is too strong to simply face it all down uncomfortably and wait for my friends to text me its safe to look at the game. Kinda wish we could blacklist 2 killers at least but I doubt that would happen despite there being so many options. Or even add a phoba mode.

imo, it would be better to dc in that case as you will be replaced by a bot and don’t completely screen vier everyone in that Match.
I do hope we will get a phobia Mode eventually down the line - though even that has limitations. And especially with licensed content they cant just change the appearance and would probably run into Problems if players could activate a Setting to block a specific licensed character.
So there will always remain instances where the player needs to act - either afking or dc ing (maybe play without Sounds if the trigger is only Audio based). Of course if the trigger is omnipresent in all Matches (eg blood, crows/birds) then it’s most sensible to not play the game.
affected players may also try to use the Game as some form of exposure therapie as its only virtual and you can always stop it on your own - but then again I think an online Game specifically isnt the right Medium for that as it affects everyone on that match and there are offline games or specialized VR for that - maybe try this in custom Matches with your mates though? (Of course only if you are comfortable enough - maybe it can lead to you bring able to handle online matches After this Exposure/desensibilisation)0 -
Doctor gives me a headache. I've had to take my headphones off when playing the particularly shock-happy ones. Two Doctors in a row is usually 'close DBD for the night' for me afterwards.

Yea, Doctor triggers my autistic sensory overload, especially if he has the Iridescent King addon. I am going to be very angry if I get a stream of Doctors and start losing ranks due to their new "go next" prevention.

Nemesis Vaccines- I have a needle phobia. I think an update may have toned down the sound but the little syringe sound makes me woozy. Even typing it right now I feel a little heavy in the chest and my heart is beating a little stronger.
I usually just deal with it or close my eyes or try and distract myself from the sound as I use the syringe 😂

What is a phobia mode? Is it something in other live service games? I'm curious as to what it entails as I've never heard of the concept before.

Spiders used to be my phobia as a kid, but not so much anymore and I just find the Entity so interesting.

I don't have any in game phobias but Nemesis' needle use is way too loud, and the screams caused by scene partner are very irritating. I'm convinced players are purposely putting it on Steve to be the most annoying, because I see him with it the most.

I’ll routinely DC from a plague match. I’d rather eat the DC penalty than listen to vomiting noises for 20 mins.

yeah there are some Games having specific types of Phobia mode
EG Grounded has an arachnophobia Mode that changes spiders to blobs without legs:
there is other Games that have similar Kinds of arachnophobia modes where the models get replaced by something else, eg Star WarsJedi: Survivor, Webbed, Kill It With Fire, Satisfactory, Lethal Company
Sea of Thieves has a Feature for people with fear of being underwater, if you enable it your character will automatically float towards the surface.
Horizon Forbidden West has a Setting for Thalassophobia so that you cant drown (which in normal gameplay would be acquired as an item later on in the game but you have a setting enabling it without need of the item)
something noteworthy imo is that most of these modes are implemented in games where you kinda expect these triggers (eg kill it with fire is kinda specifically about killing Spiders with Fire and you get an arachnophobia mode) but the devs decided its still worth it to implement these settings so even affected people can enjoy the Game - without hurting the Rest of the playerbase
edit: to anyone downvoting.. can you tell me why? This is mostly an informative post answering a question and while I have listed not only games that are life-service games as was asked for those are also still included..Post edited by Mooks on1 -
I'm confused about how this is getting downvoted too. It's not like you even suggested that BHVR implement this. You just provided information for context. ⬆️

i usually dont care about downvotes. but on this specific post? Very weird. But considering This community I guess I should know better.

Everyone knows that DBD is a horror game and that there are killers like the clown. Why do you play such games if you have a phobia of them? Don't get me wrong. Everyone has the right to enjoy DBD if they want to, but there are limits. How are the developers supposed to introduce something like an anti-phobia? That's just crazy.

Imo, if it is just one character out of (almost) 40 and its introduced later on in the Game then it’s very reasonable to request such a phobia mode. Especially with Clown, where the Devs have directly Stated they wont ever introduce a clown Killer because so many people are affected by Coulrophobia
And such a Phobia mode is SUPER simple - just change the appearance client-sided to something neutral. Only problem would be of the changed appearance gives the player an advantage (brighter/more visible) - though that should be designed in a way it doesnt and thats it..
and as mentioned in my post above - other games with a direct theme still implement such modes without affecting other players1 -
I appreciate the feed by and introspection of this. I try avoid dcing because of the penalty but I typically back out or just avoid looking and such so I don't cause a problem. I just wish there was an alternative to this.
Exposure does help for some but it hasn't worked for me personally.
That all fair and rough. Im sorry to hear yall have to have that sensory issue or fear because I know that most horror themed things amp up the sound on those for added effect. My mom also had the needle phobia and she'd hold my hand when I was getting shots because she was scared. I was perfectly fine lol. But it can be debilitating. I find the music in game to be too loud sometimes and I wish there was more volume adjusters tbh.
Same hat. Im still scared of spiders in real life but imagery no longer bothers me for the most part.
I also appreciate your imput on this again since it is informative from other games standpoint. Its becoming more common place and I do think it shouldn't be a big deal to include these kinds of qol changes. I don't want to neuter the game but I also don't want a panic attack because of a trigger especially when I have so few. The game makes me scared enough with the other killers when they have skilled players. Sometimes its not always about the immersion and especially if its a client side change that doesnt effect others enjoyment of the game and if done well, I cannot understand how it wouldnt be any different than turning on the heart beat for the terror radius. There is plenty of killers and a majority I haven't gotten to see in play, granted I have only started recently.
Just read the message I give to Mooks.
