Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Making DBD more symmetrical

One of the biggest problems with DBDs balancing is its asymmetry, which causes a lot of back and forth in regards to buffs and nerfs of the two sides. Which is why I think making the game more symmetrical would be very beneficial.

One way to do so would be treating the killer player initially as four players and adjusting that amount as the game progresses, that means the survivors receive a repair speed penalty “x” times the amount of survivors that are theoretically capable of repairing gens (doing the objective). This way if one survivor is either on the ground, hooked or dead (unable to do the objective) the penalty multiplier goes down by one (now it would be a 3v3 rather than a 4v3). Keeping the game balanced throughout a match.

A mechanic like this would also punish the killer for slugging and camping, because then camping is effectively the same as being afk. And slugging would only benefit the killer if they are able to slug all 4 survivors. Another thing that would discourage slugging would be a base kit unbreakable if you have been slugged for e.g 20% of the bleed out timer.

Another problem is how easy it is to prevent the other side from achieving their objective. Survivors have a lot of “second chance” perks, which can be abused to preventing the killer from making any progress at all. This is bad because the killer needs to down and then hook a survivor to get closer to realizing their objective.

The killer can try to do the same (prevent the objective from being reached) by regressing gens however it is significantly easier for survivors to prevent the killer from locking in progress (only happens when you successfully hook a survivor while survivors basically lock in a percentage of their repair progress of a generator, because guaranteeing the loss of the progress requires the killers attention and time which can be used by the survivors to make progress elsewhere).

I agree that the advantage in most situations is on the side of the survivors if they have an understanding of what is happening in the match and a connection.

Given that the hook pull has already been removed from the game, anti-kemp, anti-tunneling and anti-triangle have been added, and the survivors have removed the darkening of the screen due to a deep wound, further reducing the capabilities of the killers will make them unable to do anything to the survivors.

Survivors with voice communications are abusing the vast resources they have. The problem is that these skills save them from mistakes or completely disrupt the process of sacrifice. "Decisive Strike", «Off The Record», "Shoulder The Burden", "Reassurance", "Deliverance", "Babysitter", "Camaraderie" - these skills greatly reduce the chances of an killer camping and tunneling someone. Personally, I see the first two very often. People who use the resources provided by the game correctly will rarely lose.

Camping and tunneling are some of the few opportunities for the killer to gain at least some advantage in the match.

Casual players in the public do not have coordination and understanding of what is happening in the match, which is why their capabilities are limited compared to players with voice communication.

Until the developers give random players a means of communication, they will continue to lose due to the lack of information they need to win.

Another problem is that many survivors are not able to withstand situations where their teammate is being tunneled and do not know how the abilities of many killers work.

Unfortunately, there is no competitive mode in DBD, as well as a resource balance.

Players complain about camping and tunneling, although they themselves do not disdain using skills that save them from mistakes and poor teamwork. Survivors will never miss an opportunity to troll a player on a killer.

I don't think punishing the killer for doing their objectives is the way to go about things.

Survivors will have no motivation to learn how to play if the skills and built-in mechanics continue to save them.
