Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Unsure if this is brand-new or a continuation of previous issues. Seems that Switch will be running on a different update schedule and will be isolated for a period of time.

That really sucks but i guess it's a nintendo problem

edit : i just realised, this means switch can't cross play for 2 weeks after each major update? That's devastating.

Yeah, that's really the reason why I posted it.

I can't imagine the Switch playerbase is all that healthy, so this is kind of just killing it off.

That's interesting. In a weird way, I'm kinda looking forward to those periods of cross play being switched off.

I sadly made the game unplayable on Switch for myself when I linked up my PC account to it (which I imagine shares the same MMR). So it would be interesting to see what the game is like with a level playing field of players that also have to struggle with 20 fps, 80ms ping and two tiny thumbsticks. That said, I most likely won't be able to get into a single game because the playerbase for Switch is no doubt tiny for my region (though I think it's probably still quite big in Japan).

Btw, updates were never delayed. This must be a new Nintendo policy coming into effect.

Depends how they're gonna do this. If they get the patch 2 days after the chapter/mid-chapter releases, they should have crossplay enabled for roughly 5-6 days until HF1 (which other platforms get), then it's unavailable for a week while the other platforms are on HF1 until HF2 releases for everyone.

Still sucks regardless, but hopefully it's just those 2 days and then the one week rather than two straight weeks?

Time to switch to another platform.

Well, as Jarky said After each release on switch you'll have 5 days to cross play with other platforms before they get bugfix 1, then no cross play for switch until the release of bugfix 2 which is about a week later.

But yes for 2 days after the release on other platforms switch also cannot cross play then. So it'll be a 2 days of no cross, 5 days of cross, 7 days of no cross, 4 weeks of cross and repeat.

Well, I tried queueing up for an all Switch lobby now that the platform has been locked out of crossplay and I couldn't get into a single game of either Killer or Survivor. I queued for 10 minutes both times, which I think is probably about as long as anyone would willingly queue up for. I can't say I'm all that surprised, because in the 2+ years I've been playing I can count the number of Switch players I've seen on one hand.

I think this change might kill the game completely on the Nintendo consoles in my region. Oh well, that makes the decision between getting a Switch 2 or a Steam Deck in the future a little bit easier for me.

I expected as much when the changes were announced.

Sucks for Switch players. They've been treated like 3rd class players since the get-go

It's even worse, I turned off crossplay on Switch to see if it would help me find a match (it didn't) and now I've somehow managed to turn crossplay off for both my Switch and my Steam account. The option to turn it back on has been greyed out on both platforms. Hopefully I can fix it somehow.

So yeah, just a warning. Don't anybody else do that!

Edit: False alarm, I'm just silly and didn't realise you need to be on the home screen to enable crossplay. Phew!

I finally got into some Switch games! I think turning off crossplay was a mistake, because I tried again I was able to play both a Killer and a Survivor game. Hooray, DBD on Switch is saved!

Let me tell you, playing with everyone on Switch is a wild experience. It's like being back in rock bottom beginner MMR. I was able to 12 hook this lobby with a goofy stealth Legion build (which to be fair, I've found to be surprisingly effective). I gave the baby Kate a hatch escape in the end:

Then I played a match against a Springtrap that didn't throw a single axe all game and refused to chase me. Poor guy only got two hooks. It's interesting that the Renato in this lobby was not on Switch. I guess they left their game running so they can still play with their Switch duo? It's been a hot minute since I last played Survivor (not since before 2V8), but I can't imagine my MMR has decayed by THAT much. I don't normally get put into lobbies like this…

    A crazy experience, but fun.
