The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

No wonder this game runs like #########.
Thanks for the info, mate!

Holy [BAD WORD] no wonder the game's performance sucks.
That's so far from optimized it makes me want to cry. Holy [BAD WORD]. I'm not surprised by much when it comes to BHVR's spaghetti code, but this is actually surprisingly bad.

They really need to use that "over 300 team" to slowly rewrite the gameplay code as they develop further. This is just going to take longer the more it's put off.
12 -
Same. Restarting the game regularly bandaids up many problems.
In the past few months it has been working around the busted lobby problem if I'm in a group of survs. After a match it's not uncommon for one or more to be there but not there, showing one of us in a match but others see everyone there and readied up.
4 -
This does explain a great many things.
Appreciate ya looking into it for us! :)
6 -
So now that we have an idea of what the problem is now what
And also if everything is loaded on the killers side then why dose using dh eat me deadhead
5 -
Also on 31 pages no and still no actions taken
9 -
Not exactly super surprising.
BHVR only seems to move fast when Twitter gets riled up.

And all this while they’re adamant on adding new content without any sign of slowing down to focus on something like this that many would argue should be a much higher priority.
Like with the lack of new maps while they updated the old ones, I would be fine to go the same sort of time with fewer or no new perks/killers/survivors while they rewrite everything; I’m sure it would be worth it in the long run.
7 -
From the explanation it sounds like all the status effects for every killer, survivors and perk are loaded together and I imagine that stutter when you get hit with Sloppy Butcher etc and the game locks up for a second or so, is that delay they talk about while the game finds the right status effects in the list of them all to apply.
Exhausted from DH is also on some killer addons so would definitely be in that huge list it seems, plus throw a little latency in there too and it probably explains ending up on the floor but exhausted after using DH :’)

So many have said they'd be happy with less chapters per year in exchange for game health chapters. When they had Q&As the game health questions that suggested doing would have a ton of upvotes. They just continue to dog pile onto they're existing issues and pretend it's OK.
We don't need more characters/perks. For most part you just see same handful of killers and same handful of perks on either side, adding new ones rarely changes anything. New map atleast gives us variety but we missed out on those for 3 chapters.
If they worked on fixing the performance issues it'd make the game more enjoyable and would give them better data for balancing.
7 -
They will never slow down for the sake of game health.
They don't care about it.It feels like they are aiming for milking DbD as much as possible before it's gonna collapse in one way or the other rather than longevity.
12 -
Nope, they've given quite the firm "No" to everyone asking them to focus more on game health.
As long as there's licensed chapters to add to the game they'll get new players in to replace the ones that leave. Easy $60 when new players buy the bundle on playstation to get base game and the license dlc, plus $15 per legendary cosmetic.
7 -
Really I want to hear this

What disappoints me almost as much as the silence is that what we are after isn't just console problems, but something that would greatly benefit the entire playerbase regardless of platform.
And insisting on better performance while it has demostratedly degraded is not unreasonable imo at all. But we cannot even get some basic updates on goals now two years past.
Absolutely infuriating.
12 -
I feel bad for RE fans who are gonna come into the game and see what we've been dealing with.
14 -
And so many of those will come from console, and the vast majority of us are still on the prior gen machines.
13 -
which was my point because a lot of new players will be on last gen console and older PC.
8 -
actually I think most players are on last gen console because the new ones are tough to find.
12 -
No doubt that's a major factor, but also not every one has $600 usd to buy them in the first place.
The notion of needing to buy a stronger machine to play a five year old game properly also makes my head hurt...
11 -
Yeah I think that's how we all feel lol.
9 -
@not_Queen Are you able to comment on this thread? Have the issues been discussed with and videos been shown to the parties that can help with optimizations issues? Nothing against Mandy, but our assumption is she is being told not to say anything so I guess it is time to move up the ladder.

The new player experience is already quite shaky, the last thing we all need is to compound it with glaring performance issues.
Yet here we are...

From what I know and evidence I have gathered from gameplay in Dead By Daylight lead me to believe that DBD uses one raw script that loads every single character and perk asset in the game regardless of if they are being used in the match. This means that, for example, Huntress assets like her hatchets and her point gain events are loaded even if Huntress isn’t present in the match. Having a single long script with every character’s data causes performance issues when a character is called into play later on due to the game having to find their data in the script to call upon. Eventually, performance degrades to such a point that the game may stutter until it finds the correct character data to load into memory. Games with multiple characters usually compile seperate scripts of data that are loaded depending on if said character is in play; this is not the case with Dead By Daylight, since this game was built on “blueprints” made generically by other UE devs; which BHVR has just cut and pasted together into one script. The optimal loading method is to have all killer and survivor perks on one script, and all killer powers on individual scripts that can be called upon when that killer is present. If you notice, depending on what killer you are playing, the game may perform with more stutter or less depending on where the killer’s code is in the script. Also, the game stutters worse depending on what survivor is loaded into the lobby, with the four original survivors with their original clothing causing the least amount of stutter. This terrible one-script method allows hackers to spawn in and use different killer powers regardless of if they are playing a different killer. Normally, spawning in a different character asset not present in that level would crash the game. Look at Left 4 Dead 2, before the "Last Stand" update, spawning the bride witch on a stage she is not present on by default would crash the game.

If you can find one for 600 USD that's a good price. Most are 800+.
BHVR is really asking you to buy 100+ USD of DLC plus a 700+ USD Console just to play their game.
11 -
Yeah no thanks
8 -
There's truly only so much you can improve upon a 2016 game. Then again Fortnite was 2017 and to my knowledge there's a myriad of new content being released so often
2 -
Makes sense why that infamous hacking ghostface can throw hatchets and those hacking myers players can put RBTs on people
6 -
Not much of an excuse.
No 2016 game runs this poorly.
13 -
What do you mean you don't want to sink 800 USD just to play a video game?????
9 -
Is was very bad back when I played on Xbox One, you couldn’t even play certain killer because of how low the frames drop, occasionally there would be stutters and when trying to perform a basic attack on killer it’ll freeze up for a second. Fortunately I haven’t experienced it since I got a Series X but still was it horrible.

A videogame that should run at stable 60 on your current console anyway , at least that´s what the devs stated in march 2019. Our group lost people because some of them have gotten tired of dealing with the console issues (and one of them only had a great gaming laptop, which also couldn´t handle everything in the game well lol imagine ). They too hoped the devs would follow through on their promise of making the game work on a decent level on all platforms, which they never did :(
6 -
People should stop buying their overpriced skins, but that's obviously not gonna happen. If there is a single thing this community is very good at, is spending tons of money in the game only to keep complaing about the same things over and over expecting BHVR to care about them.
11 -
The only thing that really seems to provoke change is upsetting Twitter.
11 -
Anyone else remember invisible chainsaw Myers?
6 -
There have been some reports of issues with performance on PS5 and Series X already.
Iirc, they were noted to occur more frequently on The Game and Lery's.
5 -
2011 game for PS3 hardware.
Ran smooth 30fps with literally 0 drops.
The remastered version looks better than DBD, too.
You can definitely improve on a 2016 game, especially when using 2021 technology and an engine that's used to power Crash Bandicoot 4, FNAF Help Wanted, Fortnite, F13th The Game, Kingdom Hearts 3, both Little Nightmares games, Sea Of Thieves, and more.
9 -
At the very least we can keep this thread up on the front page. Just so it can't be ignored.
At this point the blatant lack of optimization is ridiculous. Even more so when their 2019 statement is taken into account. The devs also said at one point that the map reworks also help with performance on that map, which in my experience is a total lie.
9 -
I'm still confident they hired almost no coders in their "300 people team" that they boasted about on stream.
Even worse, I heard on this board BHVR actually has 600 employees... and yet they haven't worked on optimization.
7 -
They should either
Make a DBD Complete edition that’s 60 dollars that comes with all the dlc or
Make DBD Free forever make it $0.00 on all platforms cause the way the game is structured feels like a free game but it’s not
oh and give us our optimization
9 -
My mains die on console.
7 -
As a company, BHVR has 600 employees.
There very well could be only 300 working on DBD.
7 -
And so, the question circles back to, if they are capable of doing, why won't they?
6 -
Honestly maybe we should move to Twitter. BHvr only cares about blue checkmarks and fog whisperers with 6 viewers
9 -
Perhaps.
I'm not on Twitter, and I doubt any influential people would want to pick this up.
5 -
If only some of the fog whisperers would be vocal about optimization, they hold at least a small amount of sway. Especially with the size of some of their communities.
8 -
I wish they would be.
I don't know how to get in contact with any of them, but if I could I'd like to ask some to speak about it.
So if anyone can get me into contact with someone willing to listen, I'd appreciate it!
12 -
Who do you main?
4 -
Ping Scott Jund and Otzdarva? idk
EDIT: Actually, maybe you could try Scott Jund, he should have a account on these forums...
5 -
He does, but it seems a bit rude to tag him in order to ask him to speak about it.
Oh well, I'll give it a shot.
