EAC on Steam Deck / Proton / Linux

FYI, I started a thread here for support related issues: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/361429/unofficial-linux-support-thread#latest
I'll try to keep the top level comment up to date with the latest information on getting DBD running on Linux.

Good news for the 4 people that play Division 2 they just added EAC Proton Support today!
1 -
I'm going to buy this game for support devs, but I not going play in this game
1 -
I had a dream where I played DBD on the steam deck from my couch on the big screen while crunching lays tato chips and I was also a super joystick 360 juicer too. BHVR help make my dream come true!!!!
0 -
They won't because paying customers mean nothing to them.
1 -
Still in awe how, as a company you allow your team to announce support for something, let a year pass and have them repond with generic responses and feel that is acceptable...
I lost hope to be honest
2 -
So unprofessional. Hate it when companies pretend staying silent is professional.
3 -
guys, today I try play again via heroic and I doesn't have some lag leaks or fps drops, but I doesn't not touch dbd and heroic, I'm only install debian updates. well, now I want account sync

Same here. Hope was restored when it worked for all of 3-5 days or whatever. I’ve since lost hope.. again. The way they (don’t) interact with the community is just disgusting. Spent over a thousand dollars on this game with chapters and cosmetics, and not to mention the nearly 3k hours I’ve put into it too. It’s sad that this means nothing to them. According to steam charts DBD playerbase is steadily declining, finally.

how to update game via heroic?
0 -
Go to heroic, then dbd, then the three dots or lines (can’t remember), then there should bud a drop-down and one of the options should say force game update if available and you press that
1 -
Mid chapter out and still doesn't work..

A warning for this update in heroic launcher for some reason after updating it broke for me and a friend, the .exe was deleted, if it happens to you you can verify integrity to fix, it worked for my friend, for me it didn't work I had to reinstall

Same here. Bought it for switch and a lot of cosmetics, then stadia and all dlcs again, and now steam. I have stopped buying new things though.
I also sometimes comment on YouTube when I see people recommending games for the Steam Deck on sale etc and I make sure people know it does not work because of easyanticheat and I at least clarify for people before they make the mistake of buying this game and not be able to play it on deck.
This device is steadily increasing sales and the player base is pretty much adults, whod spend tons of money and not kids. I Dont know what the devs are thinking... Go figure.
1 -
Go figure, was wondering if anyone would test it as I’ve now removed DBD from my deck. Thank you for testing this patch!

thank's!

lag leaks is fixable, cross-progress already work. dbd playable at this time via heroic
2 -
bhvr publish roadmap to next year and nothing about steam deck
2 -
They won’t address steam deck directly more than likely, it’ll be masked as Linux support when and if they do.
0 -
I read through the post about their plans, apart from the roadmap, and I am beyond disappointed they didn’t address Linux at all. Guess we’re all chopped liver guys n gals
1 -
Any update on this?
1 -
It's working on Heroic Games Launcher through Epic Games Store. If you don't own that version, you'll have to buy it again through EGS. You can link your Steam account so you don't lose progress. I've written up a full guide here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/361429/unofficial-linux-support-thread#latest

i give up... i delete steam OS and install windows, and that's it..
0 -
Good choice. I think they’ve given up on Linux support.
0 -
bhvr add eac.so and we can play via heroic. I think we have dc from host, because bhvr recognized steam+proton as console (steam deck) and bhvr no announce deck support.

I, along with many, don’t want to use the jank heroic work around. I’ve played on it numerous times and it’s inconsistent whether it will boot or not, it lags, and in the end of the day it’s simply bs that we need to work around a multi million dollar enterprise due to laziness. BHVR should just add deck support native, and stop being all “secretive” about it. Tell us ######### is going on. Hogwarts legacy comes out in a few days (verified Steam Deck support) so I’m all set. Screw BHVR and their tactics, I’m over it.

I'm so Sad... windows run awfull :(

Yeah I'm not doing that, I just want it to work on Steam OS without any crazy workarounds. No reason it can't as it worked over Thanksgiving. It seems they are preventing it from working as I get disconnected when matches start to load. If they provided a reason I wouldn't care and would move on, but the lack of communication and support is frustrating to say the least.
0 -
Yeah, I totally get the frustration. But btw despite that thread being a big wall of text, the changes are quite easy if you already own the EGS version. I've been playing problem free for weeks. It sucks I have to use EGS, but it is what it is. I think they'll patch the Steam version eventually. Actually, it probably requires a change to their EGS settings. I tinkered around with it in the developer console they provide and it looks like you have to submit a build and enabled EAC for that build. I imagine that's what they have to do for the Steam version, but they must not be ready to launch it.
2 -
u right, heroic not a good way
silent from devs and manual block steam+proton as kick to cocks for us
0 -
I'm sorry but I do not have any updates at this stage.
0 -
They actually ######### it heroic version...
EAC has detected that game files have been modified (error code 1). To resatve this plosse valfy the integrity of the game cache (found under the Local Files section of the gam's proparties).

we already know that this server is dropping the connection, seeing that we are logging in from steam deck (linux + proton). and through unofficial egs we can play using proton from steam. we want to know why we are not allowed to play through steam

the heroic version doesn't work either now
0 -
yesterday I'm sucessfuly play (6.5.1). today I can't check
0 -
I'm doesn't have troubles after update, now I check and I can play. do u try force update via heroic or re-install dbd?
0 -
Edit: works now

Is this something we can still expect to happen? Or is it completely off of BHVRs radar now

Can you ask, get an update and maybe let them know this is going to lead to negative brand recognition if they don't get it working for Steam? I mean, you could easily add a $10 upgrade for Steamdeck option if this is about money or an increase in server costs and people would gladly pay it.
1 -
I would pay even 100$ for this upgrade I swear... I have 5500h în game..
0 -
Anyone able to test the new patch? Just in case..
0 -
new eac patch? im curious too but should it fix the steam issue?
0 -
There was an update today, not about eac, but never know and I’m just hoping at this point
0 -
There were some changes to EAC on Steam, but every method I know of to get EAC to work on Steam didn't work. The issue seems to be more to do with the Steam multiplayer socket not working correctly with Unreal Engine which DBD was built with. I'm not sure what the fix for it is, but obviously other games have made it work, so it shouldn't be impossible. I might have something to do with the fact that DBD uses a slightly older version of Unreal Engine.

6.5.2 does not work. dbd client prepared to play, but client rejected by server side
0 -
Thank you for checking it out. I'm honestly not even mad anymore as much as I am just genuinely sad about the fact that I can't enjoy it on my Steam Deck. I've been spending less time on my PC, so the Deck has become my lifeline when it comes to game as of lately.
I do truly hope BHVR will step it up and enable it to work. Video Horror Society (VHS) works on the Steam Deck amazingly. Their devs told me last night many people in their office have Steam Decks, so they want to keep the VHS experience available to Steam Deck owners. It's nice to see other studios making it a priority. I just hope BHVR will make DBD available to us on the Steam Deck, too.

The game still worked for me on epic games heroic launcher just last night. If you already watched that YouTube guide make sure you force an update and make sure heroic is updated to the latest version. Sometimes it takes multiple launches Proton GE 43 gave me slightly less lag than 47 but any works really

Maybe I’m just dumb, but my experience is always inconsistent. Sometimes it boots and other times it doesn’t, so I’m not sure what the issue is for me, but imo it’s just not worth it.
