Suggestion: Beginner-Friendly Modifier with Randomized Loadouts
One challenge for newer Dead by Daylight players is that the game can feel overwhelming at the start. With so many perks, builds, and established meta combinations, it can sometimes feel like you need to research optimal setups before you can fully enjoy the game. Improving the new player experience and onboarding process could help more players feel comfortable learning the game without needing to rely on external guides or meta research.
I understand that mastering builds and perk combinations is part of the depth that many veteran players enjoy. However, having an optional modifier that simplifies loadouts could help new players get comfortable with the fundamentals of the game first.
I’d love to see a rotating modifier focused on randomized loadouts that helps reduce this barrier.
In this modifier, players would choose a killer or survivor and then be presented with three randomized loadouts to pick from before entering the match.
For survivors, the loadouts could keep the character’s original perk, while the remaining perks are randomized. Items and add-ons would also be randomized. This would help prevent hard meta builds from dominating matches while keeping gameplay fresh and encouraging players to adapt to different combinations.
The modifier could even be themed around The Entity presenting different trials, where players choose between three randomized builds before entering the match.
The goal would be to help players focus on learning the core fundamentals of the game—movement, looping, map awareness, teamwork, and mind games—without feeling like they need to study perk combinations beforehand.
Many players learned Dead by Daylight this way when the game first launched: by simply playing and improving naturally. A modifier like this could help recreate that experience for newer players today while also giving veteran players a fun, less meta-driven way to play.
It could also function as a training or discovery mode, where randomized perks prioritize ones the player has unlocked while occasionally introducing new ones. This would allow players to discover and learn perks organically through gameplay rather than external guides.
Since the game has already experimented with modifiers like Chaos Shuffle, something like this could be a beginner-friendly extension of that concept.
This wouldn’t replace the current system, but simply provide an optional casual modifier for players who want a more relaxed way to learn characters and gameplay fundamentals.
Do you think a modifier like this could help newer players learn the game while still keeping matches interesting for veteran players?

I really love that you've tried to think of our newer players! i think we can sometimes get so caught up in the hours we have in the game, we forget what a challenge it is when you come into the game now with the amount of content that it has. Its nice to see players looking out for others <3

Thank you for taking the time to respond, Mandy — I really appreciate it.
I also wanted to share something a little more personal from my perspective. I’m actually one of the newer players I mentioned.
I’ve watched hundreds of hours of content, so I understand a lot of the terminology and theory around the game. But actually executing those things in matches is a completely different experience. There’s a big difference between understanding the concepts and being able to apply them in real gameplay.
I’m really passionate about the game and that’s what keeps me trying, but I’ll be honest that getting started has been difficult for me. The amount of systems, perks, and knowledge can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to take your first real steps into playing.
That’s part of why I thought something like a randomized loadout modifier could help newer players like me focus on learning the fundamentals through playing rather than feeling like we need to understand everything beforehand.

Thank you for that extra context - it's really important for us to hear the experience of new players. This is a game that is fairly simple in idea, but the practicalities of it are anything but simple….those of us who've been around for many years (I've played since release), have the advantage that we learnt the game at the same time as everyone else did, I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult it is for those picking up the game now.
So thank you very much for your thoughts and ideas, they are greatly appreciated.1
