The Representation Tweet

Agreed. 100%.
And their Tom Cruise character as their last DLC was well....another slap on the sore face.

had a brick launched at me for holding hands with my boyfriend at the time and now we want representation when I've already gotten a free brick

Jen doesn't even play the game anymore so I don't see why she even gives a #########. When she did play, Jen and her friends were well known for bullying and insulting her opposition for no reason what so ever.
I'll be just glad when June is over because this Pride ######### creates nothing but drama.

If representation is not something you personally need, that's great! However your 'hatred' for those who do seems misplaced--you seem to have a very clear idea on how you would like to express your sexuality (to keep it to yourself and conform to what 'everyone else' is like). That others have a different approach doesn't seem to impact you in any palpable way.
It seems that you feel strongly because other lgbt+ people behave in a way you find embarrassing--and because you are lgbt+ too you feel this reflects poorly on you. While you could try and shame and belittle others into feeling the same way you do, I think it would be more healthy to reconsider whether the desire for representation and visibility IS a unfair demand. There might be a more healthy forum for you to ask others what they get from expressing their sexuality in a visible and active way- even if it's not something you can feel yourself, a better understanding might help reduce the anger you feel on this topic.

As a gay man, I will still never see David as gay. He seems like he'd go for all the ladies. As his lore just confirms that for me.
Dwight is more questionable, but even his lore said he has a crush on Rose so he's straight in my eyes as well.
1 -
Except I'm gay too and he/she has a point.
It's with out our intention, pushed forcibly down everyone's throat and it creates further dislike to our community.
It's not our fault that companies White Knight like this without us even wanting it to. There is no true, pure intention other than it'll make them some money while simultaneously pushing others away.
3 -
Exactly. I mean, they're literally helping you build a home by laying the first brick, and you're complaining? So greedy.
4 -
I'll ask the next set of homophobes if they could chuck in a bag of cement 😋
2 -
I'm just gonna assume everyone on here is gay cause that seems to be the case at this point lol.
You say 'our' and 'us' a lot. I take you don't mean the lgbt community at large or else you'd take note of the voices on here who DO appreciate the gesture and would like to see this implemented. You're talking about you and the other guy who feel a boiling hatred whenever another lgbt person is vocal on their sexuality. Accusing you of internalised homophobia might come off as patronising, but I do think you're more concerned with how this might make bigoted straight people unhappy than make lgbt+ people happy?
I can't take any accusation of disingenuous marketing seriously because... That's all marketing? If it'll 'make money while pushing other away' surely that suggests a more ideological motivation than a fiscal one?

Ofc BVHR doesn't really give an f about us, because they're a company and June is an orgy of various organisations slapping rainbow stickers on themselves because it can be profitable these days.
But the original commenter does just seem to hate themselves/the rest of the community and blames us for it.
4 -
I laughed at "June is an orgy of various organisations slapping rainbow stickers on themselves because it can be profitable these days" because you nailed it.
4 -
OP, thank you. As a gay person, it is 100% corporate pandering and I'm sick of it.
2 -
BHVR please hire jk rowlings so she can tweet about nea being lesbian and dwight being gay and lets end this nonsense

Even if they added to an existing character you can't really retcon something that has never been established.
A lot of people really use the word of retcon without knowing what the hell it means
If a character was never given an established treat or theme establishing that treat or theme is not retcon even if it goes against your head cannon of what the characters meant to be.
Let's use the sexuality argument as it's what the topic is about
Let's Feng Min is revealed to be a Lesbian now her sexuality has never been stated up until this point so adding a bit of information is not a retcon.
Now characters like David, Nurse, Julie, Ace and Frank have all been established to be interested in the opposite sex or have confirmed relationships with the opposite sex to say that these guys are homosexual would be a retcon now you could write them as bisexual instead ( something people tend to forget exists) which wouldn't be a retcon as they haven't had any established aversion to a relationship with the same sex.
If you want a retcon just look through the legions archives in comparison to their backstory and original theme
4 -
100% agree with the pandering statement. They can add gay and straight characters all they want, I just don't think it matters in MOST lore.

This. I love Claudette so much because she's like me. A nerdy Black chick who didn't fit in much but has a big heart. There's a lot of us out there and I will admit it does get to be a bit frustrating that the Black chick/guy is automatically the "sporty" one.
Representation may not seem like anything and stupid but it means a lot to people who are hardly represented or have only recently been represented in recent years or their representation is easily 50:1.
Stan Lee said it best and there's a reason completely masked super heroes and villains are so popular. It's because anyone can be them and so they mean more to you than someone you can just idolize but never be.
4 -
Meg is the sporty one hence her perks, Claudette is a bookworm never thought of her as "sporty" at all.
0 -
That's what they're saying, that it's nice to break from the stereotype that black people must automatically be the "sporty" ones.
2 -
"There's a lot of us out there and I will admit it does get to be a bit frustrating that the Black chick/guy is automatically the "sporty" one."
As I said, meg is the athlete https://deadbydaylight.gamepedia.com/Meg_Thomas
perhaps I read it wrong
0 -
Yes, you read it wrong, which is what I explained. @OtakuBurrito is saying it's nice Claudette isn't the "sporty" one.

I recall this from Stan Lee in the past couple of years. Not sure if it the same one you are thinking of. Yet it is about this topic of this thread. So might still be worth linking to, in any case.
1 -
You really need to relax man, you been in these threads all day and sound like you need to take a chill man. yeah I get it, you know, when you type out a sentence sometimes things dont come across to everyone on the internet. Honestly, back up and go get some fresh air.
0 -
That wasn't meant to come across as aggressive, I genuinely wanted to make sure you understood.
EDIT: I removed the question from the comment.
0 -
I just wanted to thank you/I am not here to cause anyone trouble with the words of "pandering" :( I am not gay/bi or anything and I find it offensive to my friends/family that companies do this in June only and never did it from the start.
2 -
Unless J.K.Rowling is on the team, I really can't understand why this is a priority
0 -
It's all good :)
1 -
I find it hilarious how one group think they can just claim a month and everyone should agree to it.
But yeah this feels like pandering and soon we probably get "legendary lgbtq" skins that cost 20 usd or more.
0 -
Man... i can't wait to get reported for killing an lbgt character and then the cops called on me for simulated violence against a protected class
Or the game shut down for hate speech
What fun inclusion brings
What if... instead we didn't?
1 -
Definitely a thing that will happen outside of a paranoid fever dream. The next step we're going to take is round up and execute anyone who disagrees with us that all characters in the game are now both gay and trans, which includes the crows, the melted crotus penn horse, the saloon vultures, and of course the entity theirself. We shall make no apologies for the terror.
2 -
It's not a fever dream it's literally all these groups ever talk about, want special things made and when that's to hard they take things already made and when that's not possible they shut xyz person place or thing down when it doesn't go there way. Chuck all these dumb politics right in the bin I don't want them in video games
0 -
You don't have to agree with anything. In my country, for example, we don't celebrate it. Nobody's forcing you to participate any more than I have to participate in the French celebration of July 14th. To me, it's just another day, same as the entire month of June.
0 -
Don't you worry about a thing, I just got off the phone with the CEO of homosexuality and told him to put your cancellation on hold.
3 -
False reports don't get you banned, false police reports don't get you arrested, and the game isn't going to be shut down just because they confirm which characters are LGBT, the same way it wasn't shut down when they confirmed which characters were straight.
0 -
It does not feel like pandering at all to me. They have mentioned before there are LGBT+ people in the roster. They are now revising their statement because of the feedback and questions they get that are of course higher in this time.
not answering this now would feel also wrong, there was not really something they could have done that would please everyone. But the way the have done this does not feel forced. They did not just implement a new LGBT char and revealed it now. They answered their community. They were inclusive before.
1 -
Yes this was a part of it. And full disclosure I'm Black and female and I agree with what he was saying because he was advocating for keeping the source material accurate (or as accurate as he could because don't even get me started on the shitney channel and hollywood). When he said that what he was saying is we don't need to rehash the same characters but we need to make new characters that fall in place of whatever someone is trying to create.
Full disclosure I'm saying this next bit as a writer:
I am no a fan of re-characterizing super heroes UNLESS it makes sense and has been a tradition from a story stand point. To keep using Peter Parker yes he should be kept as his original character which is a straight white male (that is also the son of a billionaire scientist who experimented on his son) because that's the OC. Mile Morales should be kept as Black/Latino because he came onto the scene in the comics as that. Tony Stark is White straight man who is Iron Man. Rere Williams will always be a Black woman who is Iron Man's successor. All the Green Lanterns running around. Captain America's successor having the potential to be any race/gender because it's a symbolic super hero that is a reflection of America. Every single Dr.Who. And it's mainly because that's how the characters were originally presented and changing an OC to meet public interests is just bad writing period.
It'll be the end game nonsense all over again where all the immortals die because bullshit reasons and Thanos's real reason for slaughter countless planets is never revealed because his character is rewritten conveniently for the sake of appeasing the masses. Same thing with the Captain Marvel #########. And with the butchering of Scarlet Witch to make her into some meek little child that gets angry and becomes OP mad her come off an a fiery red head and that's bad.
/rant
Now in terms of DBD I personally feel sexuality doesn't need to disclosed because it's pretty obvious most normal high functioning beings wouldn't care about it after a certain point like I previously stated. You aren't going anywhere, you can't die, you've got nothing better to do most of the times. I would be highly surprised if everyone isn't banging someone including the demo to some degree. He's a huge favorite in the Exophiliac community.

Its funny you think these politics won't affect anyone but people you don't like...
If you dont think things can't be mistaken for hate speech and shut down in a murder game ur blind.
And if you dont think that adding politics like this that are banned in Eastern country's won't just get the entire game banned ur in for a shock.
Not to mention how harmful and dangerous promoting these ideas are to begin with
4 -
DBD is trying to be politically correct now? Killers beware of Adam and Claudette!
1 -
You wouldn't think I'm so dangerous if you saw some of my killer gameplay
1 -
What politics are you talking about? I heard nothing about any politics being added to the game.
Sure, things can be mistaken for other things, but that's where the mods step in. I trust their judgement. That's why I'm not worried when some survivors reported me for "wallhacking", because I know I'm innocent.
Again, what politics are you talking about? And sure, maybe it'll get the game banned in certain countries, but not from every country. The fact that the game has supernatural elements is enough for it to be censored in certain countries, for example, but I never heard you advocate against those.
Who's promoting any ideas? It's literally just expanding the lore. Is it harmful and dangerous to promote the lore?
0 -
DbD is trying to expand the lore, just like they've been doing since the rifts started.
0 -
"If you dont think things can't be mistaken for hate speech and shut down in a murder game ur blind."
Current administration in the US has used videos of Huntress mori Claudette as evidence of "violence in video games" I am not saying they will use a LGBT survivor as hate crime proof, but this game is already being used in videos as evidence they need to censor some games and is very real.
2 -
Damn, I didn't know that. It sucks that those groups are trying to censor our beloved game. Fortunately, BHVR is a Canadian company, so they still have the rest of the world to sell to even if the current USA administration succeeds in getting the game banned from the USA.
0 -
No one is trying to get the game banned, I was just saying this game is already being used by governments in regards to censoring video game violence. Therte is no active push to get this game banned in the USA, but it sure was used in videos to push the idea that video games are excessive vioolence, and the clips used were specifically Huntress hacking away on Claudette with an axe LOL
P{ersonally I loled when I saw it
2 -
That's bizarre. Do you have any links?
2 -
Regardless, we shouldn't let the game be censored, that's why we have to support the devs' decision to confirm which characters are LGBT in spite of the backlash by those who want that information censored.
0 -
The whole situation is actually very stupid, in my opinion.
It's like civil war in the community for literally no reason.
What's the problem with making characters gay/bi/lesbian/trans/etc. in fanfiction, headcanons and role-play forums? In-game it doesn't need to be highlighted, unless it serves a purpose of developing the character's lore arc. As it was mentioned before by many, it doesn't matter who these characters find sexually attractive, it's not like there's an option to romance anyone. If you want to associate yourself with a character on a sexuality-level, then just make your head-canon list, where the character you like has a sexuality that you have. In what universe is it a hard thing to do?
For example. Some people are shipping Dwight and Meg. And some people are shipping Dwight and Jake. Would it be possible to canonize either of these relationships without metaphorically spitting in a face of the side, who hasn't been chosen? No. So why not keep that "use your imagination" attitude, so that everyone can be happy?
With that being said, it's perfectly fine if they create a new original character, who is lgbt+. Or if they implement a licensed character, who is said to be lgbt+ in the original source. But don't pull the inadequate card of J.K., please.

I have never seen fan fiction writers deterred by lore. That's kinda the point of fan fiction.
Also, it's not like every character thus far has been straight. Only a few have had explicit heterosexual relationships or leanings, but many others haven't had anything confirmed or hinted at.
1 -
What makes you think that every character thus far (except those ones, who have relationships mentioned in bio) hasn't been asexual? It's not like there are moments in lore, where characters go "woah, I like this girl/boy" (except Julie's archive, which, again doesn't exclude the possibility of her having relationships with girls before Frank appears in her life). It's not like characters express their sexuality in-game during trials. It's not like anyone, except Ash and Adiris, even speaks in this game.
0 -
We don't know, that's the point. That's what the devs want to reveal via expansions of the lore.
