Did they change their mind on giving out event exclusives?
Was wondering since I got the hound mask and davids jacket when I didn't have them before. Is this just a bug?
Comments
-
Yeah, I'd like to know as well. I hope it is just a bug...
12 -
I assume a bug or lack of oversight. I have two of Kate's bbq shirts. I earned it, but why would I have 2?
I feel like they used a prerequisite (played at x date, during X timeframe, etc) to see who was eligible and gave them out regardless. If they "may" have had them, they have it to ensure nobody lost it kind of thing.
1 -
No.

Just read the ingame news that people can obtain the exclusive skins again like hound mask, song bird shirt etc.
Thanks bhvr. Im so disappointed.
Edit: just noticed that they don't even have to obtain it by doing anything. They just get it for free. Even more disappointed
21 -
Legacy handouts when?
lol jk, the only thing they won't do that with.
6 -
VICTORY
7 -
Nope. There's a news update when you start the game up saying that they're giving them out to everyone.
3 -
Yes! We all have them now!! Whoot!!!!
7 -
Finally. I've been wanting to reclaim my Hank Hill Propane Hammer again ever since making the jump from PS4 to PC.
4 -
From the in game news. Yes these have been awarded to all players.
14 -
Bummer.
What are exclusives anyways? Why bother having events?
I wouldn't say it's a super big deal. But my issue is, the people who had to grind to earn it.
And then new players get it as a free handout because... Why exactly?
22 -
Would have been nice if they had addressed what they will be doing moving forward with players that lost legacy cosmetics. An apology is nice, but an update on the situation and how it will be resolved would be even nicer.
1 -
I’m happy they did this. I already owned the summer bbq ones but I’m just happy more people can enjoy them and I can finally get that David jacket.
I understand why some people might be a little disappointed but it’s honestly not that big of a deal. Maybe they could have put them in the shop instead of giving them away for free, but either way it’s just nice that they did this.
3 -
We are unable to restore Legacy items and and we will not be making this available to the Community as a whole.
10 -
Cool barely play this game anymore will have those cosmetics lol

They have just announced that they'll be giving the remainding 4 event cosmetics to everyone.
It's extremely dissapointing to see dedicated players, veterans who have played this game for years get prioritized lower than new players like this, constantly ... Not only by giving things we've grinded for (even during the worst patch in DBD's history, the Blind/pallet stun change) away to everyone, but also by doing nothing with the lost Legacy cosmetics for players who actually deserve them ...
I know it's ultimately an insignificant affair, I know my opinion doesn't matter, and I know that many players will even be happy with this change ... But personally I feel dissapointed and maybe even a little betrayed ... What do you guys think ? And also, why did you choose to do what you did, bhvr ?
EDIT:I see my post's been merged with this one, which is also dissapointing, since my title was much more ... provocative, "Why would I bother grinding out the anniversary cosmetics if they'll be given away to everyone anyway" ... Almost like they want to just toss it under the rug and move on -_-

Those events were released before the in-game shop was a thing (or very shortly after in the case of the Scorching BBQ event), when they didn't have a finalised way of having people earn cosmetics.
Now that the Rift is a thing, they can allow people to earn them for free during the event, while also allowing people who missed it to cough up the dough if they really want it (like with the Hallowed Blight/Catalyst events).
I imagine they gave these out to everyone for consistency reasons, and will be following the new module from now on.

well we don’t want another case of “IS THE ANNIVERSARY SKINS RETURNING?!?!” on our hands like the legacy “IS LEGACY RETURNING?!?!” Thing.
Also why you may ask? For fun

In the end, it doesn't matter a hell of a lot. Most of the event skins aren't nearly as good as what is in The Rift or the store for that matter. But it does leave a sour taste in the mouth of older players. To grind something and then just have them handed out at a later date doesn't feel good at all.
It sort of makes me sad. And why would I want to participate in later events if they are just going to be given out. What is the point? Why grind? Why even have an event?
Just toss the skins into the store or something. Or give them out form the get go, and don't make a grind for it.
It may seem like a lesser issue to be upset about, but it does matter. It sort of affected how much effort I am willing to put into the game, and playing it as a whole.
3 -
I think it's dumb, honestly.
New players will get other event items, and new items that come out/are released for free.
People who grinded for these items are completely thrown under the bus.
Might as well not participate in the upcoming anniversary event to get the crowns because they will be released for free anyways.

So you made the lunar event skins public now? Why?
You also mentioned that you dont want to make Legacy public bc of the bloodweb rework. But you reworked so many things in the past and people never got sth exclusive again.
And I alsways was really mad because I watched dbd since its release. I couldnt play it on my own until mid november 2016. I was watching it every day and when I was able to play it finally Legacy just got released.
Then I hoped that your first firecracker you released in december 16 were my legacy-license. Imagine what BHVR did? Yea 2-3 years later they brought them back -_-
it's like everytime I hoped that sth will show that I am very old dbd gamer but everytime I got sth BHVR thought like "I dont think soooo"
Why.. just why? There are so many people who played in 2k16 or 2k17 and you took any OGH-license away from all of these people.
Everytime the community is asking your for some more exclusive skins you dont allow it. No 2k17 exclusives, or 2k18, 2k19, 2k20... nothing to show others how long you're in here for what ever reason you stayed...
You cat like that only these people who were able to unlock legacy were the holy ones. They are. And there are so many more but you just dont allow all the other thousands of people to be a part of the veteran programm.
Thank you for nothing.
6 -
Why do you all act like you did a lot to earn them? DBD Events were not that much effort. The only reason why someone did not have those cosmetics was because they did not play during that time. Not because they were not dedicated or anything else.
17 -
Legacy skins exist and are still a bragging right....
also look, I participated in the event for lunar new year...all of them, along with the summer bbq event and I honestly don’t mind everyone getting the skins, they are literally just skins and don’t affect gameplay in anyway
3 -
So that's it? Years of waiting and told to be 'patient' and that the issue would be eventually be resolved and the devs will not even give us a chance to send in proof we have? That's... more than disappointing, if so.
7 -
People need to feel special because of cosmetics
6 -
What's with all the back and forth on this issue? Isn't this like the third time they've done a 180 on their decision?
3 -
It's [BAD WORD] ...[ahem].... stupid.
"community's best interest" my [BAD WORD]
You've already tried to do this a while ago and the community said "no". Here we go again.
By that logic you're implying being the reason to give Event cosmetic to everyone, you should also give out Legacy cosmetic to everyone because some people lost them, why are not doing that? Oh, is it because it's gonna anger the people who grinded for them? Then why does the same not apply here? Especially with the buggy mess that was Howling Grounds event.
14 -
But if you can see that someone has unlocked the prestige achievement before 24th November 2016, why won't you let them at least choose 1 survivor for the legacy prestige? If you know you won't be able to restore legacy items, I think that's the best way to give a recompensation reward for people who lost the legacy after grinding really hard for it. Just let us choose at least 1 legacy item for each prestige achievement before 24 Nov.
9 -
Why would I care if someone has a cosmetic I like on? Why does it matter?/ if anything I get to see it more and that's awesome..I never understood the absolute sheer toxicity of this
3 -
They give away cosmetics that we have obtained since 2016 but the cosmetics that we are getting from the rift take them from us
this is already absurd
2 -
It's not a matter of prioritizing newer players over older players, it's actually quite the opposite. Back then, the way event cosmetics were stored were much less secure than recent events, and it made them susceptible to loss of progress (the reason why we needed to return them to people in the first place). We originally decided to return them only to the people who had earned them specifically to not alienate long time players who had worked for them. Despite our best efforts, there were people missing them who should have received them and didn't: The data we had at the time was not robust enough to catch everyone.
So in short, some of the people who did work for and earn them didn't receive their cosmetics back, and there was nothing we can do for them. Those long time players were out of luck. The idea of not alienating long time players ended up alienating those long time players.
It's unfortunate, yes, but leaving those people behind is not an option. This is the fairest way we can handle the situation. This shouldn't be a problem for future events as the way we store rewards now is much more secure.
28 -
nothing is safe with you, not even the current rift, you are missing cosmetics right now
5 -
Why are you giving away only the event cosmetics? If you say that you do this because you cant restore some players progress and give them the cosmetic that they didnt get even though they earned it, this should also apply to Legacy cosmetics. Some players got their legacy, but it was taken away from them, and you couldnt restore access for them.
If you truly don't want to "alienate" the community, you will either give away BOTH Event AND Legacy cosmetics for the same reason you're giving away Event cosmetics, or give away NONE.
20 -
but that does not solve anything, cosmetics are being lost right now and it will always happen
0 -
Can we take that as confirmation that our exclusive event cosmetics that we have to grind for during a certain, short period of time, will from now on, actually and rightfully stay as exclusive event cosmetics that we have to grind for during a certain, short period of time ?
6 -
Honestly, the Legacy stuff is asinine. So you can't check to see if certain players actually got to it in time, SO WHAT. For God's sake, just let people claim what they lost based on the honor system and check to make sure they were playing the game during the legacy time frame. Sure, and handful of people who were around back then might wind up with some legacy they didn't earn. I'd say the good vibes created from folks who lost all their legacy will greatly outweigh a few unscrupulous cheats. Hell, if you have to, say, "hey, since we can't verify which legacies you earned, but we can verify you played at the time, we'll let you pick one killer and one survivor legacy to have". It may not be perfect, but it's a damn sight better than "oh, we failed to track the stats for people earning legacy, AND we left a progress destroying bug in the game for a year or more while it razed your save profiles, so we're just gonna say ######### it and not let you have anything instead... even though it was our multiple fuckups that caused it".
17 -
To make you not dodge the lobby and think that this David is an old player not actually some rank 20 with 10 hours on record...
2 -
Guess what?
Legacy was an extremely grindy event that took forever to even GET the legacy skins in the first place, as the old bloodweb was slow and the things you would purchase through it was expensive. Legacy is also extremely hard to return to owners as they are 10x different than the other event skins due to how it was unlocked, through prestiging and not through hooking survivors and doing generators. Giving everybody the event skins like they did was an amazing idea, as now they won’t be filled up to the brim on tickets of “My skin gone” and now can find important tickets like “Why does x survivor make no sounds at all” and “why can’t I vault this window”.
Just accept that Legacy is never coming back
6 -
and tomorrow they will lose it again
1 -
Wow. Super disappointed. Well I guess Legacy is next right? Since earning it doesnt matter...

Imagine getting upset over some cosmetics in a video game.
10 -
I know right
1 -
This. So much this. I can't understand why can't they just do that, we have been waiting years for them to restore them for those who lost them. They really don't care about veteran players do they?
6 -
I, personally, am incredibly happy. I played during those times, suffered through the patch, then my steam account got hacked and I lost them. It didn't occur to me at the time to contact steam support or Bhvr support (I kinda just sat there like, 'Well #########' and then when retelling this story to a friend they suggested I should've contacted support, by which point I thought it was too late.
But now I can use David's Untamed Donkey Jacket again (even though why would you wear a shirt as David lol) and my life can become complete once more.
I'm not entirely sure this is the popular opinion on these forums but thank you Bhvr.

Couple days ago people were getting angry over the price of a licensed cosmetic, now getting upset over cosmetics being given away for free? They really can't win. 😂
4 -
As somebody who was still missing an event cosmetic (the Hound mask) I am ecstatic that it's finally been returned to me!
I'm also happy that other people will get to use these cosmetics, even if they hadn't 'earned' them in the past. I feel like this is a wonderful decision by BHVR.

I dont think they should do some honor system, lol. DBD players are known for their honesty and sweetness. Only a few of them would ever lie. 😕 lol
If they can't 100% be sure then its just unfortunate. I agree with keeping those skins for the ones that earned it. They should not go to anyone who didn't. Even if they were playing since back then. It doesn't prove squat.
3 -
Yeh you thought. They'll do it to everything else.
Specifically not Legacy though. Which, if we are being honest. Don't make sense, it would fall under the same premise.
People will defend their move till you bring up Legacy, it's ever so special I guess.

Why does anyone care? You still did what you did, this doesn't change that. If I have a 1000 € salary and someone else gets 1000 € as a lottery prize, is my money suddenly worth less? Is my effort now useless because someone else got the same thing in an easier way?
