I think it's important to try both roles. Context is important when discussing camping. I got called out for camping in end-game chat and cursed at. But if the survivors took a second to think about it, they would have realized that in end-game, defending the hook is often the only non-give-up option for killers. All the…

No good deed goes unpunished... Here's a few rounds I had last night, all with 4-5x Flan (I always bring flan). First round of the night, I use yellow add-ons, I'm getting into the festivities, I like the vibe, I search for an invitation. BAM. Flashlights. BAM. Head On. BAM. DS. BAM. Dead Hard through bear trap. Result: 0K…

I consider Dead Hard through bear traps to be a bug. I don’t report people for exploiting the bug, but know that I am judging them harshly. Very harshly. I may or may not let them bleed out for a little bit when they’re the last one I catch.
-
Was DH through bear traps still a thing a year ago? I was hoping they'd fix it before 2023, but maybe I should lower my expectations.
-
I think it’s a question of scope. If the scope of ELO systems is to match like with like, it does a decent job depending on queue times and backfilling. The problem is that the old transparent system was simultaneously a matchmaking system, progression system, and “fair play” reinforcer. Now there is a disconnect between…

To the OP: thank you for your thorough explanation of MMR from a dev perspective. It covers a lot of things that are misunderstood about MMR systems. That said: HOW THE MMR DOESN'T WORK, AND WHY WHAT PATRICK SAID MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE (FROM A PLAYER POV) Now that the hyperbolic headline is out of the way, we can dig…
-
DH through bear traps should not be a thing. Evan has been tormented enough.
-
One's egotism doesn't go away just because they're good at something. Excelling at something usually highlights a person's inner character. As it doesn't look like we'll see our MMR any time soon (which sucks), I'd like to humbly request some features to make MMR more transparent. Ability to sort my killers based on MMR.…
-
Or at least throw killers a bone and give them an extra offering slot when they’re playing SWFs.
-
BHVR thinks we’re less mature than the Super Smash Brothers community, and it is our job to prove them right.
-
"Bile" is nowhere near the word I would use to describe the act of waiting at the game. The game ends in two minutes, which is not a long time all things considered. If you force them out and they actually leave, the game ends sooner. It is that simple. I don't see why it's a matter of "dignity." You're not looking stupid…
-
You're asking a leading question, but I'll bite. When it comes to being forced to choose between facing a group of people that are trying to humiliate you or just afking for 2 minutes, a lot of people choose to afk because nobody needs that kind of bile in their life, let alone the part of their life that involves escaping…
-
The downside is that not all killers CAN end it themselves (without disconnecting). If survivors are determined to make a game last indefinitely, they can stop at 4 gens and start messing with the overmatched killer. At least with EGC there’s a 2 min. time limit, during which survivors go to opposite gates, flashlight stun…
-
As stated above, it’s not about ego, it’s about being forced to do something to stop someone from wasting your time. The BM is just the pickle on the ######### sandwich.
-
Dead Hard, but not for the usual reason. I like playing Trapper and being able to DH through bear traps is a bug as far as I’m concerned. NOED. No reason.
-
I agree bleeding out sucks, and the time wasted should be mitigated. Unfortunately, DS encourages killers to wait a minute before picking up survivors, during which you could hypothetically use Unbreakable. There’s also the issue about whether it’s worse to just sit there or be forced to do something to stop someone from…
-
Nope. That only works on the bog standard delaying tactics. When the survivors are determined, they will usually go to gates at opposite ends of the map just to make you deal with two BM parties. If you’re lucky, they’ll have fireworks to blind you in time for one survivor to get past you and search for the hatch, where…
-
Bringing up bleed-outs is whataboutism. One form of BM doesn't excuse another. There's also the vast difference in frequency. How often do bleed-outs occur? If the killer is slugging, there's always Unbreakable. There's no perk to counter survivors intentionally wasting time, whether it be at the exit gate or on the last…
-
as a minor nerf, it would be nice if a survivor couldn’t DH through bear traps. It doesn’t make sense and Trapper needs all the help he can get.
-
I “entered the fog” after kbmm (kill-based matchmaking) was introduced, so I have nothing the compare it to. But from what I’ve played (about 200 hrs as killer) I think there’s now a disconnect between grade (what’s visible) and MMR (what’s invisible). The game gives you no way to know if you’re progressing in skill or…
-
It’s nice that they think about high-end survivors not being able to face (ill-equipped) new killers, but I imagine that leads to some pretty lopsided matches. This degrades the killer experience and the perceived value of the new killer. Don’t other PvP games make it a weighted average of the other played characters?
-
So you are basically admitting to trolling. Congratulations, you win the internet.

Welp, at least the devs are working on this very problem, so it shouldn't be as big of an uphill climb for the next person that takes a break from DBD and wants to come back. MMR will decay with lack of play, which will help ease returning players back into the game. Right now, matchmaking probably has a lot of data on…
-
That's an interesting hypothetical. If only the worst killer in the world and the best SWF in the world were available, should the matchmaking system ever let them play the game? I would hedge toward "Yes." For the OP, I feel your pain. Take heart in the knowledge that any other available killer matched against those teams…
-
Yes, something like "FAQs (TWCA)" or "FAQs (TATWISTM). That is, Frequently Asked Questions (That We Can't Answer) and Frequently Asked Questions (The Answer To Which Is Soon TM).
-
Thanks, edited the OP.
-
Yes, and it works well for other games. I would hope that if the player base of Super Smash Brothers could handle knowing an indication of their ELO, so could DBD's. I was trying to think of ways to make MMR more transparent without explicitly telling the player their MMR.
-
It takes queue times into effect, no? I would think it gradually expands as someone waits? In the extreme case when only the best killer in the world and the worst survivors in the world were available, you’d want them to play eventually, right? Due to the nature of matchmaking, where there’s always going to be a…

By the internet law of unaccountability, everyone is an #########, so killers have to go up against more ######### at once. Furthermore, killers have been put in this terrible place where their most effective tools are shamed and labeled “toxic.” Meanwhile, survivors’ bullying and needlessly prolonging a game are things…
-
If you were to do that, the game would need to force you to use it immediately in order to stop the needless stalling that already plagues killer QoL. As others have said, it’s a pretty fringe case.
-
I’d agree with Otz’ take on it, with the added comment that it’s unfortunate that the most effective tools in the killer toolkit (tunneling, camping, and slugging) are deemed “unsportsmanlike.” You put killers in a terrible situation by having to deal with gameplay as well as social pressure to fail and deal with the BM…

With an ideal skill-based matchmaking system, numbers of hours wouldn’t matter. Someone that can press w and m1 at the right times, loop well, and has the “right” perks is going to hold their own regardless of time played. There is the problem that it takes a certain number of hours to get the “right” perks, but an ideal…
-
It’s not so easy to punish facecamping without punishing proxy camping, which most people see as a legitimate strategy. There’s also the problem that whatever you do to “punish” facecamping has to taper off as the trial goes on, because camping of some kind is the only non-give-up option in many end-game scenarios. There’s…
-
Disclaimer: I’m a baby killer main, so I’m familiar with harassment. Right now, facecamping (especially with Bubba) early in the game is a boring but apparently effective way to both harass someone AND play to meet the objective. There are counterplays (do gens, totems, BT), but survivors seem to think that doing gens and…
-
Good point. What about hook states or blood points (pre-bonuses, of course)
-
Individual hooks. Disincentivize early camping, reduce the blood point penalty for late camping. Late game, camping is sometimes the only non-give-up option. Incentivize exceptionally non-toxic, non-boring play with the ability to “rescue” an offering from the Entity.
