Exhaustion Suggestion and Survivor Item Concept: Water Bottle
Exhaustion Suggestion:
Exhaustion in its current state pretty much does nothing but prevent the survivor to use exhaustion perks. IMO this feels like using one exhaustion perk feels almost mandatory as it doesnt have any negative effects. Also exhaustion addons from killers only have use when the survs are running exhaustion perks and are rendered useless if the perk is used before the effect can be applied or if no surv has any exhaustion perk to begin with.
Thus I think the exhaustion effect should gain additional (negative) effects for the survivors, my suggestion:
- Louder breathing, which should not get negated by Iron Will
- Small penalty (max. 9%) on all action speeds (Vaulting, Repairing, Cleansing, Healing, Sabotaging, Unhooking, Opening gates, Unlocking chests)
Vigil will get the additional effect to negate these new effects only for the person running the perk. Its other effects will stay the same.
Item: Water Bottle
General
Drinking from the bottle has an animation that lasts a few seconds so you cant just use an exhaustion perk and instantly trigger the item effect. Also the effect only takes place if you are already exhausted, drinking while not exhausted doesn't give any benefits (maybe some additional effect given through an addon).
Drinking from the water bottle negates the new negative exhaustion effects that are described above, but it won’t let the exhaustion go away completely, so exhaustion perks are still not usable.
The water bottle has a limited number of uses, 1 charge is one use, once started the charge used up even if the animation is interrupted. Effects only take effect if animation is completed uninterrupted. Interruption might be: Sprinting (normal moving is locked, you can cancel the animation with sprinting though), getting hit, any other action like cleansing, repairing, healing, vaulting.
Rarity
Rarity might increase number of charges as well as reduce the animation time.
Example (numbers should obviously be determined by someone with more sense of game desing than me, also testing):
- Yellow: 2 charges, 5 second animation per charge
- Green: 2 charges, 3.5 second animation per charge
- purple: 4 charges, 4 second animation per charge
Addons
Addons might be herbs or fruit you out into water to make it more refreshing/tasteful as well as fizz.
Addons may reduce the animation times. Also they could give small boosts/effects for a limited time after drinking (such as one very rare addon will reduce your vaulting speed for the next 20 seconds)

My issue with this, as someone who doesn't run exhaustion perks, is that this is an even worse chest pull than the broken key. I'd rather not bog the item pool down with more situational stuff.

Good point.
Maybe make it so some items such as broken keys or my suggestion can’t be pulled from chests? Or should have a guaranteed addon to make them at least usable.

I don't think this needs to be an entirely new item. Maybe an add-on for the medkit could be something that could affect exhaustion. But this idea as you've presented it is almost entirely a nerf to survivor.
Maybe limit it to just: Exhaustion reduces healing/repairing efficiency by 3%.
Then make a medkit add-on that reduces exhaustion duration by 50% or something, for one use per game and consumes the medkit on use.

With all the new killers that are getting released exhaustion perks are perfectly fine.

This just seems like its going to make haddonfield offerings stronger, vault a window in a house with a balcony, use balanced landing, run back around, refresh balanced landing, wash rinse repeat

The actual effects of Exhaustion would need testing/refining for sure.
my intention was to actually make new items as I don’t like the current boring ones. Also to address some of the most complained about issues (in this case exhaustion perks being just second chance perks and with the penalty on repairing also slightly address genrush.
i feel like if killers would get something like exhaustion perks, they would come with a bigger downside than just a cooldown.
i don’t see how? You would lose some seconds for the refresh where the killer can catch up. Also after refreshing, you just get rid of the louder breathing and vaulting speed penalty (both don’t exist right now) but exhaustion perks would still be on the same cooldown. With the vault speed penalty this would actually make it somewhat weaker, not stronger

Some but not enough, you would be fast enough that with a little lead you can loop for a long time

Again, i don’t see how this suggestion would affect this at all. The only difference that case would be slightly slower vaulting speed or the need to use the (limited use) item with animation times to easily during a chase catch up as killer.

I mean every loop you do already get 1.7 seconds free when the killer vaults as long as you are 8 meters a head of them you have time to drink and drop again, idk seems kinda obviously broken with fast drink times

That’s why my suggestion was up to 5 seconds animations? With the option to be even higher according to testing/game design. Did you even read the OP at all? First you assume exhaustion would be completely gone and now this… i addressed those problems.

Everyone knows BHVR doesn't know how to be creative with add ons...every add on is just a simple stat increase. Are there add ons that change the way a power is used...nope. Increase time, range or add some useless status effect like Blindness.

I guess I had a little typo in there, but context should have explained itself that I actually meant that you won’t get faster exhaustion recovery from this.

basically the rework gives survivors with exhaustion Status new negative effect and only that effect would be negated by drinking the water.
