New Feature: Cardboard Boxes

Something I pretty much thought about since the first Snowman event is having these inflatable snowmen as a means of mobile lockers be available in basegame. I think the game mechanic fits very well with DbD and especially nowadays aura reading is a little bit off the hands - this would be a mechanic introduced thats not locked behind a perk (Distortion) and there is still risks using them as survivor.

Cardboard Boxes

Now, inflatable Snowmen are fun and fitting for the winter event but clearly would feel out of place all year round. Here is my suggestion: simple (but big) cardboard boxes, kinda like this one (image source):

They would essentially work like the the snowmen (*not* like the broken ones from their first iteration that denied some killer powers completely). Probably would need to be higher than in the example picture especially if all killers can use them like the snowmen obviously. Also the animation should be rework and not just be a "jump in" - may even be a bit longer that currently to not make them to accessbile during a chase with short break of LoS.

Rats

An additional (not must have) idea i had were rats. There is already rats on some DbD maps but I would like to give them some actual gameplay mechanic instead of only being decorative:

So when survivors enter a box or are in there for some time, there would be an occasional rattle of the box as a risk to still be found by the killer and not make them too reliable as a stealth mechanic. Now on the other hands, rats may enter the box instead of character as well creating a false sense of someone being in there. Plus, if a rat enters a box that a survivor is in - the survivor would shriek a little bit (no full on hook scream please).

I think giving more general gameplay mechanics to all matches is something that DbD really needs to not make it seem stale as just adding characters/perks can only do so much. These boxes can be balanced to create stealth mechanics as well as introduce risks and be balanced with the other mechanics mentionend (rattles, sounds in boxes, rats).

for the upcoming Winter events, these boxes would be replaced by the known Snowmen obviously

My other concepts (Feedback and suggestions always welcome):

Killers: The Ice QueenHannibalCharlie(The Darkness)The Blair WitchThe FirebreatherThe Photographer

Survivors: Aria MorrisonLukas SchmidtPaitoon Saeli

Survivor Items: Piece of Chalk, Pocket Knife, Walkie Talkies, Lighter, Water BottleSling ShotSpray Paint CansSalt PouchSmoke BombVoodoo Doll, Smudge Sticks

Game mechanics: Expanded survivor objectives, Exhaustion Rework, Spiderwebs, Cardboard Boxes, Item Rarity Removal, Smaller Chase mechanics, Vending machines

hear me out: cardboard boxes that throw a voiceline "kept you waiting, huh?" as soon as survivor pops out of one

I just want a Solid Snake Chapter. Konami owns Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear.

Explain to me how aura reading is out of hand. You're only going to ever see three perks outside of huntress and nurse: BBQ, lethal and nowhere to hide.

First of all i said a little bit.

And the whole discourse and debates about distortion tell me its out of hands - i mean, distortion wouldnt be as controversial if it was only about these three perks, would it?

    Box...

The discourse is vastly overblown because there's a large contingent of people that don't want to engage with the killer at all. They lost a tool to play cowardly and are upset. So now aura perks are the bad guy, just like haste bad was the mantra early this year.

Again you're not being specific. Because you can't be. Is hangman's trick losing you games? Awakened awareness? You seeing alien instinct a lot? How about hex: retribution? No? Wonder why. Hint: all of those perks have very little impact compared to actual game stall perks. Knowing where a dude is doesn't automatically kill him. You have to chase and outplay at least twice.

Source? Or is that just an assumption on your part? I have seen this accusation often but i really havent seen survivors with distortion actually playing like that compared to survivors without distortion.. distortion wouldnt even affect these matches of you are Right and aura readings are not often used

i don’t need to be more specific, i would still make this suggestion without my personal subjective opinion that aura readings are getting out of hand, you will not convince me otherwise like this (and even partially confirmed it, as Nurse and Huntress are very strong and often seen, as is the combo of BBQ, Lethal and/or Nowhere to hide especially on high mobility killers like Blight or Hillbilly.
Hide&Seek is still a part of this game, and i see pretty much everyone do it here and there (even content creators that are all about chases will hide and not only run to the Killer and take chase any single time they can). These boxes wouldnt make hiding suddently super strong or often used - lockers are already here and will stay, just a new mechanic thats already been tested and even provide benefits for the Killer side..

also its not that rare that an aura read will gift you a free down either. I am not saying it happens all the time, but it sure does happen often enough. More often than survivors that completely avoid any Killer interaction at all costs from my pov

To add just one player's perspective, I'll admit I usually run at least two information perks and one slowdown as killer. It's almost crazy in my mind not to be running BBQ. And that kind of turns the game into non-stop chase, down, hook, repeat (instead of the tension I feel when I'm around a corner, trying not to be seen as survivor).

i use Nowhere to Hide in more than half of my matches, so many free hits that would otherwise be me wandering off or looking around for way too long. These are handy, i don’t blame anyone for using aura reading perks and i don’t believe that they lose value over my suggestion either..
